The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
We’ve got a solid run of surf coming up at Super Tubes, but this one is a reef and point setup that’s very consistent and fairly exposed. It’s an advanced break, so don’t be fooled by the numbers – this place knows how to throw a punch.
The first real action kicks off Saturday morning, 18 July. It’s a bit cloudy, with a light cross-offshore breeze at 6 mph from the west. Swell is coming in at 4 ft from the south, with an 11-second period. The combined energy is moderate (715). It’s clean, and the sets should have some shape. It’s a good warm-up, but it’s not the standout.
Sunday morning, 19 July, we see a slight bump to 5 ft from the southwest, with a 9-second period and a light offshore wind from the WSW at 6 mph. Combined energy is 836 (moderate). It’s clean, but the period is a little short for this spot – it’ll still be fun.
Now, the real magic starts to brew. Monday morning, 20 July, is a beauty. The wind goes totally glassy, zero knots from the north. Swell is a solid 8 ft from the southwest, with an 11-second period. The combined energy jumps to 1788 (strong). This is excellent surf for experienced surfers – clean, powerful, and the sets will have plenty of push. This is a standout session.
Tuesday morning, 21 July, is another glassy morning with no wind, and the swell drops slightly to 6 ft from the SSW, but the period has stretched out to 15 seconds – that’s very long period groundswell. Combined energy is 1174 (strong). For a reef and point, long period is a dream – it’ll wrap in with real authority and hold its shape. This is a top-tier session.
Wednesday morning, 22 July, is glassy again, with 7 ft from the southwest at 13 seconds. Combined energy is 1569 (strong). Excellent conditions for experienced surfers. This is another standout morning.
Thursday morning, 23 July, sees the swell push up to 10 ft from the southwest, 11-second period, with a light cross-offshore breeze. Combined energy is 1782 (strong). This is big – over 8 ft, so it’s for experts only. Clean, but powerful.
Now, the big one. Friday morning, 24 July. The wind is glassy, and the swell is a massive 13 ft from the SSW with a 16-second period. Combined energy is a whopping 7568 (very strong). This is exceptional surf for expert surfers. This is the biggest, cleanest, most powerful swell of the run. If you’re good enough, this is it.
Saturday morning, 25 July, the swell is still 12 ft from the southwest, but the wind swings onshore from the ENE at 6 mph. The quality drops. It’s a day to sit out.
Sunday morning, 26 July, we get a moderate offshore wind from the WSW at 12 mph, with 10 ft from the SSW at 16 seconds. Combined energy is 4948 (very strong). It’s clean and powerful, but the wind is a bit stiffer – still excellent for experts.
The run fades after that. Monday and Tuesday see onshore winds and dropping swell, and by Wednesday, 29 July, the swell is down to 4 ft, but with a fresh offshore wind, it’s clean but small. Combined energy is only 396 (weak). A few more small days follow, but nothing to write home about.
The best of the best: Monday morning 20 July, and Wednesday morning 22 July, for that glassy, clean, powerful swell. And if you’re an expert, Friday morning 24 July is the absolute peak.
Rusty.
