The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. We’ve got a solid run of swell on the way for Super Tubes, a reef and point set-up that’s very consistent and handles a good SW groundswell like a champ. The water is sitting at 63.9°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you might want an extra mm of rubber. The first few days are building, but the real standout is next Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd – that’s where the magic happens. There’s a bit of a gap before the first proper surf, but from Wednesday the 15th onward, it’s game on.
Wednesday the 15th kicks off with a clean 3.9 ft SW swell and gentle offshore wind in the morning. It’s surfable but nothing to write home about. By the afternoon, the swell bumps up to 5.9 ft from the SW with a period of 8 seconds, and the offshore wind holds – it’s a nice little session, with moderate wave energy (836).
Thursday the 16th is where things start to get exciting. The morning is glassy, with a 9.8 ft SW swell and a long period of 14 seconds. That’s groundswell, and with light winds, it’s going to be clean and powerful. The energy is strong (3095). This is expert territory – too big for beginners. The afternoon stays clean with a 8.2 ft SW swell and a 13-second period, cross-off wind, and strong energy (2340).
Friday the 17th morning is glassy again, with a 9.8 ft SW swell and a 12-second period. It’s another excellent session for experienced surfers, with strong energy (2160). The afternoon gets a bit messy with a light cross-onshore wind, but the 8.2 ft swell is still there.
Saturday the 18th offers a morning glass-off with a 4.6 ft S swell and a 10-second period. It’s clean and fun, with moderate energy (708). The afternoon turns cleaner with a 3.3 ft SSE swell and a longer 13-second period, but it’s smaller.
Sunday the 19th is a full day of action. Morning has a 7.9 ft SW swell with a 12-second period and gentle offshore wind – clean and strong (1889). The afternoon kicks up to 9.8 ft SW with a 12-second period and a moderate offshore breeze, energy is very strong (2951). This is expert-level stuff.
Monday the 20th morning is glassy with a 5.9 ft SW swell and a 10-second period. It’s clean and fun, with moderate energy (924). The afternoon has a cross-shore wind that messes with the 6.2 ft SW swell, so it’s a bit iffy.
Now, the standout: Tuesday the 21st. The morning is absolutely glassy with a 14.8 ft SW swell and a 12-second period. The energy is exceptional (10363). This is for experts only. The afternoon is even bigger – 19.7 ft SW swell with a 14-second period and cross-off wind, energy is off the charts (13503). This is the best of the whole forecast, no question.
Wednesday the 22nd keeps the energy high. Morning has a 11.5 ft SW swell with a 14-second period and light offshore wind – clean and strong (4595). The afternoon is a 8.2 ft SW swell with a 13-second period and gentle offshore wind, still very good (2959).
Thursday the 23rd is another big day. Morning has a 18.0 ft SW swell with a 13-second period and moderate offshore wind – exceptional energy (9810). The afternoon is a 14.8 ft SW swell with a 13-second period and light offshore wind, still huge (9454). Experts only.
Friday the 24th morning is glassy with a 13.1 ft SW swell and a 14-second period – strong energy (6217). The afternoon has a cross-shore wind that makes the 11.5 ft SW swell a bit messy, but it’s still big.
Saturday the 25th morning is glassy with a 5.6 ft SSW swell and a 13-second period. Clean and fun, with strong energy (1859). The afternoon cleans up with a 5.9 ft SW swell and light offshore wind, solid.
Sunday the 26th morning has a 8.2 ft SW swell with a 14-second period and gentle offshore wind – clean and strong (2519). The afternoon gets a cross-onshore wind that messes up the 7.5 ft SW swell.
Monday the 27th morning is glassy with a 5.9 ft SW swell and a 14-second period – clean and fun, with strong energy (1526). The afternoon has a cross-onshore wind that makes it a bit messy.
Tuesday the 28th morning has a 9.8 ft SW swell with a 15-second period and gentle offshore wind – very long period, so it’ll be perfect for the point setup. Energy is
