Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here, and I’ve been staring at the charts for this stretch, and let me tell you, we’ve got some serious juice on the way. It all kicks off this week at one of the local heavyweights.
The whole pattern is building towards a major pulse of south-west swell. The first few days are solid, but the real standout is the window from Thursday the 9th of July through Friday the 10th. That’s where the magic happens. After that, things get messy with a weekend of wind and rain before a cleaner, smaller pulse rolls in for the second week.
Super Tubes is your only real option here, and it’s a cracker. It’s a reef and point setup, very consistent, and handles a good south-west swell like a dream, though crowds are often a factor here – expect company. The water is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, sitting at 64°F.
Here’s how it shakes out:
Tuesday the 7th: We start with a clean 7ft swell from the SW, period a solid 12 seconds. The morning is glassy with gentle offshore wind, so it’s clean. The combined energy is already strong (1261). Afternoon stays clean with a light cross-off breeze. Good start.
Wednesday the 8th: This is where it steps up. Morning sees 8ft SW swell at 13 seconds. A moderate offshore wind keeps it clean. The energy jumps to 1915. This is getting serious, but still manageable for experienced surfers. Afternoon gets a fresh 19 mph offshore and the swell hits 10ft – that’s expert territory with the energy at 2801.
Thursday the 9th – THE STANDOUT: Thursday morning is the peak for quality. We’ve got 10ft of SW groundswell, period stretching to a very long 14 seconds. The wind is moderate offshore, and the energy is roaring at 4052. This is heavy, powerful, and perfect for a point break like this. The afternoon holds at 10ft with a gentler offshore wind. This is the session to circle.
Friday the 10th – THE STANDOUT: More massive surf. 12ft from the SSW, period at 14 seconds in the morning. The wind is light and cross-off, making for a clean face. The energy on the morning is a monstrous 5089. Afternoon is the same size, light offshore, energy at 4074. This is the apex of the swell – big, clean, and powerful. Not for the faint of heart.
Saturday the 11th: The wind turns ugly. Heavy rain and a strong 19 mph cross-onshore from the ESE. The swell drops to 8ft but it’s lumpy and poor. Not your day.
Sunday the 12th: A big drop. Swell is down to 5ft, but the morning is absolutely glassy. That’s a nice, clean window if you want a recovery session after the big stuff. Afternoon turns to onshore wind and rain.
Monday the 14th to Tuesday the 14th: A gap of very small, poor surf. Swell drops below 3ft with weak energy (99 to 116), mostly onshore or cross-onshore winds. Nothing doing.
Wednesday the 15th: Tiny and not worth the paddle, despite clean conditions in the morning.
Thursday the 16th: A new pulse arrives. 7ft SW swell at 13 seconds, but the wind is howling at 22 to 25 mph. It’s clean, but you’ll be paddling into a gale. Energy is 1743, but it’s a battle.
Friday the 17th: Swell drops to a messy 6ft with poor cross-shore and onshore winds.
Saturday the 18th: Small clean up at 4ft, glassy morning. Easy, quiet surf.
Sunday the 19th: Another small, clean window in the afternoon with a 3ft S swell at a very long 15 seconds. Clean cross-off wind. A good option for a chilled session.
Monday the 20th: A solid finish. 6ft from the WSW, period 13 seconds, with a moderate offshore wind. Clean, fun, and punchy for the experienced crew.
Tuesday the 21st: Bigger again at 8ft, but it’s a short-period 7-second wind swell. Mixed conditions with cross-shore wind.
Wednesday the 22nd: The swell fades to almost nothing. Poor conditions to end the run.
So, to spell it out: Go Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th. That’s the heavy-hitter window at Super Tubes. It’s big, it’s clean, and it’s perfect for that point. After that, look for the glassy windows on Sunday the 12th, Saturday the 18th, and Monday the 20th for smaller, cleaner fun.
Stay safe out there.
