Table - best surf conditions forecast for Super Tubes over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here, and I've got a look at the upcoming stretch. We're starting with a solid pulse of swell, but it's a serious one. The first recommendation is for Super Tubes on Thursday, 9 July. The water's running a bit colder than normal, about 63°, which is a bit of a shock to the system after that warm spell.
Alright, let's get into it. Thursday morning, 9 July, Super Tubes is pumping. We're looking at a solid 12 ft swell from the SW, with a period of 14 seconds, so plenty of energy and nice, long lines. The wind is offshore from the WSW at 15 mph, and the combined energy is a massive 4570 (moderate to strong). This is a heavy, powerful wave and only for the advanced crew. The offshore wind is keeping it all clean. Thursday afternoon holds similar size and energy, still offshore, still solid.
Friday, 10 July, the swell drops a touch to 10 ft, still from the SSW, but the wind is a bit lighter and more variable. The morning is a cross-offshore breeze, which will still be clean, but the crowd levels are listed as "often" here, so expect company. The afternoon cleans up with a light offshore breeze from the WSW.
Now, we hit a rough patch. Saturday, 11 July, the onshore wind kicks in from the E, the swell drops to 10 ft, and the quality fades quick. By Sunday and Monday, we're looking at onshore winds and dropping swell, with poor conditions and weak energy (down to 400 by Monday). The surf is basically gone. This lull lasts through Tuesday, 14 July, and Wednesday, 15 July, with tiny, weak waves that are barely surfable.
But don't pack it in. The second week looks promising. On Thursday, 16 July, it's back on. A new 7 ft SW groundswell (14-second period) arrives with glassy conditions in the morning. The energy jumps back up to 1956 (moderate). The afternoon holds with a gentle offshore. This is a nice, clean window.
The real standout, the one to circle on the calendar, is Tuesday, 21 July. Holy moly, we're looking at a 13 ft SSW groundswell with a very long period of 17 seconds. The combined energy is a staggering 8002 (strong to very strong). The wind is glassy, from the NNE at just 3 mph. This is an exceptional event for expert surfers only. The 17-second period means the sets will be widely spaced, but the power is immense. This is a point break and reef, so it should handle that long period beautifully. The morning will be perfect. The afternoon drops a little to 12 ft, still glassy, still incredible.
After that, Wednesday, 22 July, stays solid with 10 ft SW swell, clean and cross-offshore. The energy stays high through the end of the run, with another 8 ft pulse on Friday, 24 July, with a clean offshore breeze.
So, to wrap it up: the first week is a short, sharp hit of heavy swell for experts, followed by a few days of nothing. The second week builds back up to a massive, world-class day on the 21st. The best on offer is undeniably the 21st of July at Super Tubes, but only if you know what you're doing.
Rusty.
