The Lowdown
Righto, let's look at what we've got comin' up. It's a bit of a slow start, but don't you worry, this forecast has a serious pulse later on. We're lookin' at a solid run of swell, but you'll need to pick your moments for the clean ones.
For the first couple of days, Tuesday (14th July) and Wednesday (15th), it's pretty ordinary. We're talkin' small, weak waves around 2ft to 4ft from the SW, and the combined energy is weak too (120 to 206). The offshore wind on Tuesday morning will keep it tidy, but there's just not enough oomph. Wednesday afternoon gets a bit more interesting as the swell picks up to 5ft (SW) and a moderate 16 mph offshore wind cleans it right up. The combined energy jumps to 692, which is moderate, but it's still not a standout.
Now, Thursday (16th July) rolls in with a proper 10ft SW swell, but it's got a cross-on wind messin' it up. That combined energy is gettin' strong at 3140, but the conditions are marginal. This one is for the experienced crew only.
The first real standout window opens up on Friday, 17th July. We've got a solid 8ft to 10ft SW swell rollin' in with a 12-second period, making it a proper groundswell. The morning has a gentle 9 mph offshore wind from the WSW, cleanin' it up nice. The combined energy is strong (1665-2281). This is gonna be excellent surf for experienced surfers. After that, Saturday (18th July) is a bit of a mixed bag, but the afternoon turns glassy with a 6ft S swell, so if you're patient, you'll score some clean ones.
But the real heater… that's Tuesday, 21st July. Mark it down. We're talkin' a 10ft SSW groundswell with a very long 16-second period. The combined energy is a massive 4548 – that's very strong. And to top it off, we've got a light offshore breeze from the SW at 6 mph. The conditions will be clean and powerful. This is a serious, expert-only session. Super Tubes will be pumpin'.
The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no shocks there.
After that big pulse, it holds in with 10ft swells through Wednesday (22nd) and into the following week, but the winds become a bit more tricky. The morning of the 22nd is glassy, so that's another very good option. Then Thursday (23rd July) kicks up with a fresh 22 mph offshore, which will keep things clean but mighty blowy. And then we get another cracker on Sunday, 26th July, with a 8ft SW groundswell and a 15-second period, with a moderate offshore wind. The combined energy is 3023 – another strong one for the experts.
The last week does taper off a bit, with some smaller days and cross-onshore winds, but there are still pockets of clean surf. Monday afternoon, 27th July, could be a treat with a 7ft SW swell goin' glassy.
So, in short: the best on offer hands down is Tuesday, 21st July, for that big, clean, long-period groundswell. The second best would be Friday, 17th July, for the clean, powerful waves that are a bit more approachable. Get on it.
