The Lowdown
Alright, let's talk about the next couple of weeks at Super Tubes. This is a classic setup – a reef and point break that's very consistent and handles a solid southwest swell. We're looking at a real mixed bag here, with some absolute sessions on offer, but you gotta pick your windows.
We kick things off on Tuesday, August 18th, with a solid pulse of SW groundswell. The water's sitting at a very unusual 53°, which is over 19° colder than we'd expect for this time of year – that's a real shock to the system, so pack the thickest rubber you've got. Tuesday morning is looking excellent with a clean, moderate offshore breeze (19 mph) grooming a 7ft swell. The energy is strong, clocking in at 1682. It's already a standout as a cracking start. The afternoon cleans up even more, dropping to a light breeze, with the swell bumping up to 8ft and clean conditions.
Wednesday the 19th is where it starts to go large. Morning is pristine – clear sky, light offshore wind (6 mph), and a thumping 10ft groundswell (period 13 seconds). The energy is at 2369. This is serious, advanced-only territory. It will be a vision at Super Tubes. The afternoon holds the same size but the wind picks up to a fresh 19 mph offshore, which will make it clean but a battle to get out.
Now, Thursday the 20th is the absolute standout of the entire forecast. Morning sees a 13ft SW swell hammering in with light offshore winds. The energy is massive at 5538. This is world-class, big-wave territory for experts only. If you have the skill and the balls, this is your window. The afternoon drops slightly to 12ft but stays clean with a gentle breeze.
Things get a bit messy from Friday the 21st into the weekend. The wind swings onshore, and the quality drops. Saturday the 22nd is a raw, powerful day. A strong breeze of 28 mph offshore keeps it clean, but an 18ft swell (6854 energy) will be a beast. Paddling will be incredibly hard, even for the fittest surfers. This is a spectacle, not a casual session.
We get a brief return to glory on Sunday the 23rd. Morning has a 13ft SW groundswell with a moderate offshore breeze. Clean, powerful, and for the experienced crew. The energy is again very high at 5508.
Moving into the following week, Monday the 24th offers a nice reset. The swell drops to a friendlier 6ft from the SSW, with clean, light cross-offshore winds. It's a good chance for a wider crew to get a piece of it.
The middle of the next week (25th-26th) looks average to poor as onshore winds take over. By Wednesday the 26th afternoon, we get a touch of glass with a 5ft southwest groundswell. It's small but clean.
Looking further out, Thursday the 27th looks promising again with a moderate offshore breeze and a 8ft swell. Then, Saturday the 29th morning is a sneaky good one – dead calm, glassy conditions, and a long-period 8ft SW groundswell (15 seconds). The energy is 2282. That's a solid, clean session for a relaxed weekend paddle.
The first of September looks like a repeat of the pattern: clean mornings with moderate swell. But watch out for the 2nd. Wednesday the 2nd sees a massive 13ft SW pulse with a period of 14 seconds, but a cross-onshore breeze will make it lumpy and challenging for anyone. The energy is off the charts at 10759.
So, to boil it down: the real standouts are Thursday morning, August 20th with that huge, clean 13ft swell, and the Sunday morning, August 23rd for another spectacular big-wave window. Don't sleep on the sneaky glassy Saturday morning, August 29th either. This is a stretch for the dedicated, experienced surfer. Beginners should steer well clear of most of this.
