Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, it’s Rusty here. Let’s get into the surf outlook for Super Tubes, a reef and point break that’s very consistent and mainly for the advanced crew. The water is sitting at 63°, which is a notable 3° colder than usual for this time of year – so you’ll want a thicker suit.
The window kicks off this Sunday, 5 July, with some small but clean waves. We’re looking at a modest 3ft of swell from the SW, but it’s backed by a moderate energy reading (468) and glassy conditions with a WSW whisper of 5 km/h. It’s not the biggest, but it’s a nice little starter. The real bang comes Monday morning, 6 July. The swell jumps to 6ft from the SW, period stretches to 12 seconds, and the energy is a solid moderate 855. With the NW offshore breeze at 5 km/h and glassy water, this is a very good session – clean, lined up, and ripe for a longboard or step-up.
Now, here’s where it gets serious. Tuesday morning, 7 July, the swell holds at 7ft from the SW, but the wind goes full offshore from the WSW at 15 km/h. The energy is strong at 1261, and the period is a nice 12 seconds. This is the first real standout for experienced surfers. The waves will be powerful, well-shaped, and clean. Wednesday, 8 July, morning is another highlight: 8ft SW swell, 13-second period, and a moderate offshore breeze from the WSW at 20 km/h. The energy is high at 1778 and the conditions are excellent. By Wednesday afternoon, it pushes into 10ft territory – but with 25 km/h offshore wind, it’s a beast only for the experts.
Thursday, 9 July, is the peak of this run. We’ve got 12ft of SW swell, a 14-second period (proper groundswell), and the wind is a clean offshore at 25 km/h in the morning. The energy is massive at 4145. This is the standout of the whole outlook. Super Tubes will be thick, hollow, and demanding. It's an expert-only day. Afternoon stays excellent too.
Friday, 10 July, sees the swell still big at 12ft from the SSW, but the wind shifts to a light cross-on from the east, making it tricky. Saturday the 11th is a mixed bag: morning is junk with onshore wind, but Saturday afternoon turns glassy with a 7ft SSW swell – a very good session for those who can wait.
We then have a lull through the middle of the week, with smaller swells and ordinary conditions, but nothing major. The next real chatter comes Saturday, 18 July. Morning offers a clean 5ft SSW groundswell with a 15-second period and light offshore wind. Afternoon is the real standout of the second week: 10ft from the SW, 10-second period, clean offshore breeze at 15 km/h, and strong energy at 2247. This will be powerful and clean, but only for the experienced. That’s your target.
So, to sum it up: the absolute best on offer is Thursday, 9 July, with 12ft SW, long 14-second intervals, and clean offshore winds. The backup standouts are Monday 6 July morning and Saturday 18 July afternoon. The rest of the run has some fun waves but nothing that hits these heights. Be ready.
Rusty.
