The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s get into it. We’ve got one spot, Super Tubes, and it’s a reef and point setup that loves swell from the SW. It’s a consistent performer for the crew who can handle it, but we’re gonna have to be patient this week.
The early part of the outlook is pretty quiet. Tuesday morning the 14th has some clean conditions with a light W breeze, but the swell is only 2ft from the SSW with a period of 10 seconds, and the energy is weak (113). It’s surfable but nothing to get excited about. Tuesday afternoon drops to 2ft, so by then it’s really flat. Wednesday the 15th is similar with a tiny 1ft swell on the morning, although the afternoon legs up a bit to 5ft from the SW, but the period drops to 8 seconds which is short and crumbly. Not worth rushing out for.
Now, Thursday the 16th is where the trusty Super Tubes starts to fire. Thursday morning brings a serious 10ft SW groundswell with a long 14-second period, glassy conditions, and a massive energy reading (3095). This is a proper, powerful swell. The combo of big size and long period means this break will be handling it well – that reef and point setup will keep the waves from walling out. But let’s be clear: this is for advanced surfers only, it’s over 8ft. Thursday afternoon stays solid at 8ft with a 13-second period and clean cross-off wind. Still excellent for the experienced.
Friday the 17th morning holds strong with 8ft SW swell and 12-second period, clean offshore wind from the WSW. Energy is high at 1913. This is still expert territory, but the shape and power will be there. Friday afternoon gets a bit tricky as wind goes east, bringing a slight cross-on, but the swell is still a meaty 8ft.
We get a bit of a breather on Saturday the 18th as the swell drops to 4ft from the S, but it’s glassy and clean. Good for a fun, smaller session, especially if the bigger days were too much. Sunday the 19th swings back up nicely: 7ft SW, 12-second period, gentle offshore WSW wind. This is still a solid wave, and it's clean. The energy is moderate to strong at 1398. That’s a really good day for the confident intermediate up.
Then, mark your calendar for Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd. Tuesday the 21st morning features a 10ft SSW swell with a very long 16-second period, light cross-off wind, and a beast of an energy figure (5012). That’s the standout of the whole run. Groundswell with that kind of period at Super Tubes will produce deep, lined-up, bowling waves. But with a 25 mph offshore wind on Tuesday afternoon, paddle-out will be a mission, and the 13ft swell is only for the absolute elite. Wednesday the 22nd keeps that huge 13ft SW swell, but with lighter winds and a cleaner surface. The energy (6776) is huge even for this break. It’s a big-wave day.
Later in the forecast period, keep an eye on Sunday the 26th: 8ft SW with a 15-second period and gentle offshore wind. That’s a quality, manageable big-wave day for the fit crew. The last really good session looks like Tuesday the 29th morning: 7ft SW, 13-second period, and glassy. A beautiful end to a run that has some legit heavy water in the middle.
Overall, the water temperature is a bit colder than normal at 64°, which is notable (anomaly of -3°). For the average surfer, the small days at the start and end of the week around the 18th and 24th will be the most fun, but the real standout is Thursday the 16th through Friday the 17th, and the heavy-hitter window of Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd. That time is pure, powerful Super Tubes. Crowds are often a thing here, so expect company on the good days.
Rusty.
