Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here, and I’ve got a solid 16-day window for us that starts off with a bit of a wait but builds into something pretty special. We’re looking at Super Tubes, the standout reef and point break, and it’s the main show for the entire run. The water is sitting at 64°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you might want that extra layer.
The first call isn’t until Monday, the 6th of July. Monday morning we’re in with a chance – a clean 6ft SW groundswell with a 12-second period, and the wind is glassy from the NW. The energy is moderate at 855, and it’s looking very good. By Monday afternoon, the wind swings ESE and goes cross-on, bumping the swell up to 6ft, but the conditions get a bit messy. Still, that morning session is the pick for the day.
Tuesday, the 7th, gets better. The morning has a strong 7ft SW swell, still 12 seconds, and the wind is offshore from the WSW at 9 mph. The energy jumps to 1261, and it’s clean. The afternoon holds at 7ft, with a light S wind going cross-off, keeping it tidy. Two solid sessions.
Wednesday, the 8th, is where it starts to fire. The morning brings a 8ft SW swell with a 13-second period – that’s the good stuff. Wind is offshore from the W at 9 mph, and the energy is now 1886. This is excellent for experienced surfers. The afternoon gets a bit gusty with a 19 mph offshore wind, but it’s still clean and the swell drops to 7ft with 13 seconds of period.
Thursday, the 9th, is a standout. The morning has a 10ft SW swell with a 14-second period, the wind is offshore from the WSW at 16 mph, and the energy is massive at 3854. This is expert territory. The afternoon keeps the 10ft, 13-second period, and the same offshore wind, but the energy is still huge at 3607. This is the kind of day that lives in the memory.
Friday, the 10th, is the absolute peak. The morning is glassy, with a 12ft SSW swell, 13-second period, and the energy is 4633. That’s the biggest energy of the whole run. Wind is glassy from the WNW. This is a true standout for experts only. The afternoon drops to a 12ft swell but with a cross-on E wind, so it gets messy.
After that, it drops off. Saturday the 11th is a write-off with onshore wind and rain. Sunday the 12th has a smaller 5ft SSW swell in the morning with glassy conditions, but it’s inconsistent. The following week, from the 13th to the 20th, the swell hangs around in the 4ft to 6ft range, with mostly clean conditions, but nothing compared to that first big push. The 20th of July morning has a 7ft SW swell with offshore wind, and the energy is 1294.
The 21st of July, the last day of the range, sees a 8ft to 10ft SW swell, but the wind is onshore or cross-on, so it’s blown out.
Overall, the best on offer is Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th. Thursday has that huge 10ft SW groundswell with offshore winds, and Friday morning is glassy with the biggest energy of the lot. Super Tubes is a very consistent spot, and it’s fairly exposed to the SW swell, which is right in the optimum direction. Crowds are often there, so expect company, but for that quality, it’s worth it. This is a classic reef and point setup, so the long-period groundswell will wrap in beautifully.
Rusty out.
