Table - best surf conditions forecast for Super Tubes over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s talk Super Tubes. This is a classic reef and point break, very consistent, and it faces the right way for south-west swell. The water’s a bit chilly for the season, about 63°F right now, nearly 4°F colder than normal, so don’t forget the rubber.
We’re straight into it. Thursday morning brings a solid 12ft swell from the south-west, with a 14-second period—that’s proper groundswell with a heap of energy. The wind is offshore from the west-south-west, so it’s going to be clean and hollow. This is advanced-only stuff. Thursday afternoon holds at 12ft, shifting a little more south-south-west, still offshore.
Friday stays the same quality: 12ft in the morning, south-south-west, with a gentle offshore breeze. The energy is huge. By Friday afternoon it drops to 10ft, but still solid and clean.
Saturday turns messy. The wind goes onshore from the east-north-east, light rain, and the swell is still 10ft but choppy. Sunday is even worse with onshore wind and the swell down to 6ft—skip it.
Monday morning, July 13th, is small but glassy. The swell is only 4ft, with a light wind from the north-north-west, so it’s clean but weak. The afternoon goes cross-onshore, so no good.
Then we get a few days of tiny surf. Tuesday through Wednesday of the next week are flat, with swell below 2ft and poor conditions. That’s a gap of about two days with nothing.
But Thursday, July 16th, fires up again. The morning has 12ft of south-west swell, but the wind is a strong 45 km/h offshore—clean but a real fight to get out. The afternoon is even bigger on energy, with a 14-second period and cross-offshore wind, so it’s heavy and powerful. Only for experts.
Friday, July 17th, the wind goes onshore again, ruining the 8ft swell. The weekend after that is poor with onshore winds.
The real payoff is July 21st and 22nd. Tuesday, July 21st, the morning is a bit cross-shore with 7ft at a very long 15 seconds, but the afternoon cleans up with a gentle cross-offshore breeze and 7ft of south-south-west swell. The energy is strong, and the period is long. Wednesday, July 22nd, is the best: morning has 6ft with offshore wind, and the afternoon jumps to 8ft south-south-west with a 16-second period, gentle offshore breeze, and huge energy. That’s the pick of the whole forecast.
So, the opening days are heavy, there’s a lull mid-week, and then the 21st and 22nd of July are the standouts. Crowds are often here, so you’ll have company, but the waves will be worth it.
Rusty.
