Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s talk surf.
Alright, we’ve got one spot firing up over the next couple of weeks: Super Tubes. It’s a reef and point break, very consistent, and it’s got a real good run of swell coming through. The water’s sitting at 63°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year – you’ll feel that one on the hands.
The forecast starts proper on Sunday morning the 5th of July, with a light cross-shore breeze and a 4ft SW swell soaking up a moderate 373 combined energy units. It’s a bit marginal to call it top notch, but the Sunday afternoon session looks sweeter: the wind swings to a cross-off at just 3 mph, the swell settles to 3ft, but the period jumps to a very long 14 seconds – real groundswell quality. That long period will make it peel beautifully down the point, but keep an eye on the tide. Combined energy is a solid 468.
Monday the 6th is where it starts to get good. Morning: glassy conditions, 6ft of SW groundswell at 12 seconds, with moderate energy at 900. That’s clean and punchy. The afternoon though gets a cross-on breeze and chops things up, so the morning window is your go.
Tuesday the 7th is a standout – morning and afternoon both look tidy. Morning offshore wind at 9 mph, swell holding at 7ft from the SW, 12-second period, and combined energy climbing to 1261. That’s moderate to strong energy, and the lines will be solid. It’s getting up there in size, over 5ft, so beginners might find it a handful, but for experienced surfers it’s prime. Crowds are often here, so expect company.
Wednesday the 8th pumps more size but the wind picks up. Morning: 8ft SW at 13 seconds, offshore wind at 16 mph – that’s a moderate offshore, clean but strong. Combined energy hits 1806. Afternoon jumps to 10ft with 19 mph offshore winds and energy over 3000. That’s big, powerful surf – experts only, and even then, you’ll need to be on your game.
Thursday the 9th is another real highlight. Morning: 10ft SW groundswell at 11 seconds, gentle offshore, combined energy at 3148. The afternoon is even better: 10ft at 13 seconds from the SSW, light offshore, energy at 3488. These are excellent conditions for experienced surfers – big, clean, and lined up.
Friday the 10th morning: absolute stunner. Glassy calm, 12ft SSW groundswell at 13 seconds, combined energy at 4013. That’s very strong energy, and the glassy surface will make it look like a dream. But size-wise, it’s well over 8ft, so only for the crew who know what they’re doing. The afternoon turns to cross-on winds and light rain, so it’s a write-off.
Saturday the 11th gets messy with onshore winds and storm risks – not worth a paddle.
Sunday the 12th sees a drop in size but offshore winds return: 5ft to 4ft SSW at 11 seconds, moderate energy around 400-500, and clean conditions. Solid for a froth.
Monday the 13th has strong offshore winds but the swell is mixed and the wind is howling at 19 to 28 mph – that’s more kite-surfing territory than paddle surfing.
From Tuesday the 14th through to Monday the 20th, the swell hangs around but mostly in the 2ft to 8ft range, with some standout moments. Thursday the 16th afternoon brings a 10ft SSW groundswell with light onshore winds – marginal. Friday the 17th morning is a gem: 8ft SSW at 12 seconds, light offshore, combined energy at 2253 – excellent for experienced surfers, clean and powerful.
Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th both have glassy windows with 4ft to 5ft SSW groundswell at 11 to 13 seconds, combined energy around 800-900, and clean conditions. Nice, user-friendly surf to end the stretch.
So overall: the best on offer is Thursday the 9th morning and afternoon, with that big, clean, long-period SSW groundswell and gentle offshores. The absolute standout? Friday the 10th morning – glassy, 12ft, groundswell at 13 seconds, and combined energy at 4013. That’s a session for the hardcore. Just remember, at that size, it’s experts only.
Stay safe, get wet.
