Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's cooking at Oyster Bay over the next couple of weeks. It's a bit of a mixed bag, but there are a few sessions with real potential if you pick your moments.
The forecast starts off with a solid little pulse on Sunday the 5th. The morning is the clear winner here. We've got a clean 5 ft southeast swell rolling in with a nice 12-second period, and a gentle offshore breeze from the north keeping things tidy. The combined energy is moderate (748), and it's gonna feel a touch cooler than usual in the water at 65°F, about a degree and a half below average for this time of year. This is the best bet for the weekend – just be aware that Oyster Bay can get a bit of a crowd sometimes.
Monday the 6th brings a bigger, punchier southwest swell. The morning sees a 6 ft swell (12-second period) and a light offshore breeze from the northwest, making for excellent, clean waves for experienced surfers. The combined energy jumps to a strong 1104. The afternoon holds similar size at 6 ft with a cross-offshore breeze, so the quality stays good. This is a standout day for anyone who can handle a bit more size.
Tuesday the 7th is where things get tricky. The swell pushes over 7 ft (7 ft), but the wind swings onshore and gets firmer, making for choppy, messy conditions. Not the day for it.
The pattern for the rest of the first week and into the second week is mostly dominated by strong, oversized southwest swells. From Wednesday the 8th through to Saturday the 12th, we're looking at waves consistently over 7 ft, often hitting 10 ft or even 12 ft. The combined energy readings are huge – four-digit numbers like 2802, 3075, and even 4020. However, the winds are mostly cross-onshore or strong, leading to poor to marginal quality. Even when the wind is clean, like on Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th, the swell is simply too big for this break. These days are really only for experts, and honestly, the size and onshore winds make it look more like a kite-surfing playground than a paddle session for most.
After that, the swell drops back and conditions improve. Wednesday the 15th offers a glassy 4 ft southeast swell in the morning – a real treat if you want something small and clean. Thursday the 16th morning is another pick, with a 4 ft, very long-period 15-second groundswell from the southwest, under offshore northeasterly winds (592 energy). That combo is magic for a point or reef, but at a sandbar it might break a bit straight. A nice, clean option.
The real standout in the longer range is Sunday the 19th. We've got a 6 ft southwest swell with a 12-second period, clean offshore winds from the north-northeast, and combined energy of 1103. It's a classic, quality session for experienced surfers. The water should be fine and the waves will have plenty of shape. This one looks promising, but it's far out so keep your fingers crossed. The run finishes nicely on Monday the 20th, with a clean, 4-5 ft southwest to south swell, glassy or with a light offshore wind. A near-perfect way to end the forecast period.
So, to sum it up: the standouts are Monday the 6th morning and Sunday the 19th morning. For a smaller, cleaner wave, Wednesday the 15th and Monday the 20th are both excellent.
Stay stoked,
Rusty.
