Table - best surf conditions forecast for Oyster Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's get into it. Oyster Bay is our only spot on the table, and it’s a bit of a mixed bag over the next 16 days. The water is sitting at 65°, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so no wetsuit drama there.
The first sign of anything surfable is Friday morning, but it’s a mess. We’ve got a solid 12ft SSW swell rolling in, with a 13-second period, packing a heap of energy (4121). Problem is, the wind is howling from the WSW at 12 mph, making it a cross-on choppy mess. That’s a no-go for a paddle. The afternoon cleans up a bit with a lighter S wind, but the swell is still a thumping 10ft. That’s going to be way too much for this exposed sandbar, especially for beginners. It’s a big, powerful wave.
The real standout window opens up Saturday morning, the 11th of July. The swell has dropped to a still-chunky 10ft from the SSW, but the wind swings around to a light ENE breeze at 9 mph, giving us clean, cross-off conditions. The combined energy is still strong (2540), so there’s plenty of push. Oyster Bay is inconsistent, and it can get crowded sometimes, but for a bigger-wave crew, this is the best bet early on. The afternoon is clean but the swell drops to 8ft and the score is lower, so that morning window is the one.
We’ve got a long gap of poor to marginal conditions through the rest of the week. Sunday and Monday see the swell dropping, but the wind is a problem, and the energy is fading. Monday the 13th has a rare moment of offshore NNE wind at 6 mph with a 4ft SSW swell, but the energy is low (561). It’s clean, but tiny.
The next big pulse arrives on Thursday the 16th of July. The morning fires up with a 10ft SW groundswell, a 14-second period, and a light offshore NNE breeze at 6 mph. The energy is massive (3177). This is expert territory, and it’s clean. The afternoon falls apart with a strong cross-on wind, so get in early or miss out.
The following week gets interesting again. Saturday the 18th of July is a gem. The swell is a manageable 5ft from the south, with a 12-second period, and the wind is glassy—dead calm from the SSW. The energy is moderate (635). That’s clean, lined-up waves for the intermediates. Sunday the 19th is also clean with a light offshore NE wind, but the swell is smaller at 4ft.
Then, on Monday the 20th of July, we get a warning. The swell jumps to 12ft from the SW, with a short period, but the energy is ridiculous (5843). The wind is light, but that much power on a sandbar will be a washing machine, and only for the absolute nuts. It’s too big for most.
The end of the run shows another big cleanup on Saturday the 25th of July. A 5ft S swell, 13-second period, with glassy conditions and a light NNE breeze. The energy is moderate (918). That’s a solid, clean day for the intermediate crowd.
The best of the whole forecast? Saturday morning, the 11th of July, for the big, clean 10ft SSW swell, and Saturday the 18th of July, for the glassy, fun-sized 5ft S swell. The 18th is the standout for the weekend warrior.
Rusty out.
