Table - best surf conditions forecast for Oyster Bay over the next 16 days.

Righto, let's have a look at what's on the table for Oyster Bay over the next couple of weeks. I'm Rusty, and I've got the skinny.

First up, it's a bit of a slow burn, but there are some serious pulses on the horizon if you're willing to wait. We're looking at a sandbar setup here, and the swell direction needs to play nice, ideally from the SE.

For Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th, the surf is pretty average. We’ve got some chest-high swell around 5 ft to 6 ft at a short 8 seconds, but the wind is mostly cross or cross-off. It's not terrible, but the energy is weak to moderate (max 1017), and with the break being inconsistent, it’s not really worth getting too excited about. You might find a wave, but it'll be a lot of work for not much reward.

Things turn a corner on Thursday the 16th, but it gets serious fast. Thursday morning brings a solid 10 ft SW groundswell with a 14-second period and light, clean offshore NNE wind. The combined swell energy is a strong 3309, and the water is around average for the time of year. However, at that size, it’s going to be a handful and really only for the experienced crew. The crowds can sometimes be a problem here, but with size like that, most will be on the fence.

The real standout is looking at Tuesday the 21st. We’ve got a massive 10 ft to 12 ft SSW groundswell rolling in with an incredibly long 16 to 17-second period. The combined energy is strong to very strong (5962 to 7230). The wind stays clean from the east (cross-off), and while this big, long-period groundswell can make a sandbar a bit straight, the clean conditions will be a treat for the experts.

If that’s still too big, keep an eye on Tuesday the 28th. By then the swell has dropped to a much more manageable 8 ft from the SW, still with a nice 13-second period and clean cross-off winds from the ENE. The energy is moderate (1919), and it’s flagged as excellent for experienced surfers. That morning looks like the pick of the later period for a proper session without the absolute beast mode on the cards.

The gaps are real. After that first small stuff mid-week, there are a few days where it's either too windy, too messy, or too big. The following Monday the 20th is a write-off with strong onshore wind, and later in the month, we see huge swells (13 ft to 23 ft) but they're paired with howling cross-on or onshore winds and occasional thunderstorms. You wouldn't want to be out there for a paddle. The setup at that point would be more interesting for kite surfing than a traditional surfboard.

So, for the best on offer, I’d say keep Tuesday the 21st in your diary for a big-wave session if you're solid, but the real winner for a clean, strong, and slightly less terrifying surf is Tuesday the 28th.

Stay stoked, and check your tides.

Rusty.
