Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get into it. We've got a couple of windows to work with over this 16-day stretch, but don't expect a non-stop party.
The main action is concentrated on Oyster Bay, a sandbar set-up that's exposed to the swell. The water temp is sitting at 66°F, which is about what you'd expect for this time of year—nothing to write home about.
The highlight of the whole forecast is undoubtedly the Saturday 4 July morning session at Oyster Bay. We've got a solid 7ft swell rolling in from the SE, and the period is a long 12 seconds, which means groundswell with real punch. The wind is a light 6 mph from the NW, putting it nicely cross-offshore. That's going to set the waves up clean and organized. The combined swell energy is a meaty 1345, so there's plenty of grunt in the water. This is excellent, powerful surf for experienced surfers. It might be a touch much for beginners at that size.
Now, the Monday 6 July morning at Oyster Bay is another standout. The swell is 6ft from the SW, again with a 12-second period. The key here is the wind: absolutely glassy, 3 mph from the NNW. That's about as perfect as it gets for clean conditions, and the wave energy is still strong at 1186. This is a proper morning for it.
After that, things get a bit wild. From Tuesday through to the following Thursday, the swell picks up significantly, getting well over 8ft and up to 12ft. The wind also turns against us, becoming a strong cross-onshore. This creates poor, choppy conditions that are really only for experts, and even then, it's a battle. By Thursday 9 July, the swell is a massive 12ft from the SSW (energy at 4226), but the report says it's simply too big for the break.
We then go through a long, grim period from 11 July into the 16th and beyond. The wind is howling, often gale-force, with heavy rain and completely blown-out, dangerous conditions. The 16th even shows a 16ft swell. Forget surfing; this setup looks far more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
If you want a final, small, clean chance, the Monday 13 July afternoon at Oyster Bay is worth a look. It's only 3ft from the SW, but the wind is glassy. It's a long shot, but it's clean.
So to wrap it up: lock in the morning of Saturday 4 July for the best power and shape, and the Monday 6 July morning for the cleanest, glassiest conditions. The rest is either too windy, too big, or a write-off until we see what the long-range brings.
Stay safe out there.
Rusty.
