The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Arrawarra.
First up, the water temp is sitting at 68°F, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so nothing unusual there.
The next 16 days are a bit of a mixed bag, with a long, flat spell to start. There’s nothing really worth paddling out for until the morning of Saturday, 29 August. That morning, the wind swings southerly and offshore, cleaning up a small 3ft swell from the SSE. The wave energy is moderate (212), and the break is a fairly consistent point, so it’s worth a look if you’re keen for a session, but it’s not a standout.
The real standout, the one you’ve been waiting for, hits on Monday, 31 August, in the morning. We’ve got a solid 6ft groundswell pouring in from the SSE with a very long period of 17 seconds. That’s a heap of energy (1729), and the wind is glassy out of the north. This is the best on offer. The water will be clean, the waves will have real push, and the point will handle that long-period swell beautifully. Be warned though – at 6ft, it’s getting into the territory where it’s more for experienced surfers, not beginners. The crowd factor is "often", so expect company.
The afternoon of the 31st goes downhill fast with the wind switching onshore, so don’t sleep in. After that, the forecast drops off again with a few days of small, weak, or windy conditions. The morning of Wednesday, 3 September offers a tiny 2ft swell from the east with a period of 10 seconds, but the wind is cross-shore and the energy is low (81). Not worth the drive.
Honestly, the 31st is your window. It’s a long way out, so keep an eye on it, but that’s the one to circle on the calendar.
