The Lowdown
Gather round, crew. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Arrawarra. It’s a bit of a messy start, but there’s some real gold tucked away in the second week if you’ve got the patience. This is a point break that handles an easterly swell best, and it’s an advanced wave, so you’ll want your wits about you.
Right now, we’re in a quiet spell. The first proper surf we see is on Wednesday afternoon, the 15th of July. That’s a 7ft SSE swell, but it’s short-period at 7 seconds and the wind is a fresh offshore from the south. Combined energy is moderate at 447, but the wave comment says it’s marginal. It’s not the day to get excited.
Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th stay similar – 7ft to 6ft SE swells, all short period, with cross-offshore winds that are fresh. The energy climbs a bit, but it’s still messy. Saturday the 18th morning has a fresh offshore from the south with a 5ft ESE swell, energy at 283, but the comment is still just marginal. Not our moment.
Now, hold onto your board. Sunday the 19th of July sees a big jump: a 8ft easterly swell with a period of 10 seconds. The combined energy rockets up to 1744, which is strong. But the wind is cross-offshore and fresh, and the comment is marginal. That size is expert-only territory, and the long period makes it a bit straight on a point break, but the power is there.
Monday the 20th keeps the energy high with a 8ft ESE swell, period 10 seconds, energy at 1174, but still cross-off winds. The comment edges up to a 3, which means it’s getting closer. Tuesday the 21st is where it starts to turn. The morning is still cross-off and marginal, but Tuesday afternoon we get a clean 6ft E swell, 10-second period, with a moderate offshore from the south. Energy is 562, and the comment says "expect very good surf conditions." This is the first real standout. Clean, offshore, solid size.
Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd keep the dream alive. Wednesday afternoon has a gentle offshore from the south, a 5ft E swell, and very good conditions. Thursday morning is the pick of the first week: a 6ft E swell, period stretching to 12 seconds, combined energy of 955, and a gentle offshore from the south with glassy water. That’s 6ft of clean, long-period groundswell with no wind chop. For a point break, that’s the kind of session you tell your mates about. Crowds are "often" here, so expect company, but with this quality, it’s worth it.
Friday the 24th stays solid, with a 7ft ESE swell, 12-second period, and a moderate offshore, but the energy is 1400 and the comment is marginal. Possibly a bit too much juice for the setup. Saturday the 25th keeps the size, but the wind gets stronger.
Now we hit a gap. Sunday the 26th and Monday the 27th morning are a write-off with cross-onshore winds and rain. But then, Monday the 27th of July morning goes glassy. A 4ft E swell, 12-second period, combined energy 511, and the wind is glass – dead calm. The comment says "expect very good surf conditions." That’s a hidden gem in the chaos. The water temperature is about 68°F, which is normal for the time of year, so nothing unusual there.
Tuesday the 28th morning is another glassy moment: a 4ft E swell, 13-second period, energy 572, and clean. This is the other standout in the second week. Wednesday the 29th morning stays glassy with a 4ft E swell, but the energy drops to 406. Still nice, but smaller.
The best of the whole run? Thursday the 23rd of July morning – 6ft, 12-second period, gentle offshore, glassy water, and a point break that loves that E direction. That’s the one. Monday the 27th morning is a close second for pure glass. Get out there.
