Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Hey, Rusty here, and we’ve got a serious pulse of swell coming through for Arrawarra over the next couple of weeks. The first few days are a bit of a mixed bag, so let’s break it down.
We kick off Saturday the 4th of July with a clean 5ft south swell. Light offshore winds will have the point looking alright, but it’s not the standout of the run. The water’s sitting at 69°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year – nothing wild there. The energy’s moderate at best (475), so it’s a solid enough start but nothing to write home about.
Sunday the 5th is small and dropping – not worth jumping out of bed for. By Monday the 6th, the swell jumps to 8ft but it’s getting hammered by a fresh southerly wind, making for a messy cross-off. Not great for the point.
Now, the real meat starts Tuesday the 7th. That morning we’ve got a solid 10ft south-southeast swell with 11-second period – proper groundswell energy (up at 3460). But, and it’s a big but, it’s with 19 mph offshore winds. That’s clean as a whistle but big and powerful – only for experienced surfers. This continues into Wednesday the 8th, with an 8ft to 10ft swell and moderate offshore winds in the morning making for excellent conditions for those who can handle it. The combined energy rips up to 3730 on Wednesday afternoon – that’s serious stuff.
Thursday the 9th holds the size but the wind shifts cross-off in the afternoon and the rain showers spoil the party a bit. Friday the 10th is the real gem for the stronger surfer – a 7ft to 6ft south-east groundswell with light offshore or light cross-off winds. Energy’s still strong (909), winds are gentle, and the point will be long, clean, and lined up. That’s your top pick for the week if you’ve got the skill.
After that, the swell fades hard. From Saturday the 11th right through to Thursday the 16th, it’s tiny, messy, or onshore. A big gap of poor surf – nothing doing for a straight week. Friday the 17th shows a little bump of 3ft with glassy conditions in the morning, but it’s small fry.
Then, look out for Sunday the 19th of July. We get a sudden burst of 10ft south swell with glassy conditions and a period of 10 seconds (1549 energy) – that’s a very promising long-range prospect for experienced crew only. It’s a bit far out to lock in, but the signs are there.
Overall, the standout sessions for bigger surf are late on Wednesday the 8th and through Friday the 10th. If you’re a charger, those are the ones to pencil in.
Rusty.
