Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. We’ve got a decent run of surf coming up at Arrawarra, but you’ve gotta be patient and pick your moments. This point break is an advanced wave, fairly consistent and exposed to the east, so it can handle a bit of size. The best part is, we’ve got a solid stretch of clean, offshore southwest winds locking in for the beginning of the forecast. The water temp is sitting about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Saturday morning (4th July) kicks things off with a 5ft south swell, and a gentle 9 mph offshore breeze from the SSW, making for clean lines. The combined swell energy is moderate at 423. It’s a solid, surfable start. Saturday afternoon drops off to 3ft but stays clean enough with a light cross-offshore.
Sunday morning (5th July) brings a 3ft south swell with that same offshore wind, now a moderate 16 mph – clean and riding well. Sunday afternoon sees the size jump to 7ft from the SSE, but it’s windy with a fresh 19 mph offshore, so it’ll be blown out clean but heavy. That’s edging into expert territory.
Monday (6th July) through Tuesday (7th July) gets big and messy. Monday sees 8ft and 7ft swells, but it’s cross-off and rainy, with combined energy hitting 944 and 1077 – moderate to strong, but the conditions are marginal. Tuesday pumps up to 10ft on the morning with strong energy (2850), and it’s fresh offshore, but it’s only for experts.
Now, Wednesday the 8th of July is your standout. Wednesday morning delivers 10ft of long-period SSE groundswell at 11 seconds, with a moderate 12 mph offshore. The combined energy is very strong at 3420, and the conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. That’s one for the crew who know what they’re doing. Wednesday afternoon drops to 8ft but stays clean with moderate offshore.
Thursday morning (9th July) keeps the quality high with 8ft and moderate offshore – combined energy at 2054, still excellent for experts. Friday the 10th eases back to 7ft with a gentle offshore morning, combined energy 909, and that long 11-second period gives it some punch. The Saturday the 11th of July morning is also a little gem: 6ft from the south with next to no wind (3 mph WSW), clean and glassy. Combined energy still strong at 1073.
From Sunday 12th through to Tuesday 14th, it goes quiet. Small 2ft to 3ft swells, a mix of cross and onshore winds, and even a glassy 3ft on Tuesday morning but with weak energy (106). That stretch is a few days of flat to average.
Then we pick up again Wednesday 15th July: 5ft with a moderate offshore, clean and fun. Thursday 16th gets a 5ft south swell with a long 12-second period, but there’s rain and cross-off wind – energy 855, but a bit sloppy. Friday 17th morning sees 6ft from the SSE with moderate offshore, combined energy 629, and the conditions are very good. Saturday 18th brings back 7ft on the morning with moderate offshore, energy 799, and that’s a solid end to the run with clean, surfable waves.
Best bet: Wednesday the 8th of July. That 10ft long-period SSE, moderate offshore, and that 3420 combined energy – it’s a proper point break session for the advanced crew. For a more manageable wave, Saturday morning 11th July with 6ft and near glass.
If you’re not an expert, stay out of the water Wednesday and Tuesday – 10ft + on a point is no joke. Crowds are likely at Arrawarra when it’s good, so get there early.
Rusty.
