Table - best surf conditions forecast for Mullaway over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks. We’re focused on Mullaway, a point break that holds a good ESE swell, and for the advanced crew, it’s a spot that demands respect when it turns on.
Right now, we’re in a bit of a flat spell. The start of the outlook shows a couple of small waves on Sunday the 12th, but honestly, it’s marginal at best with a combined energy of 262 and 154, and the wind is messy or just ordinary. Not worth paddling out for. Then we hit a real quiet patch. From Monday the 13th right through to the morning of Saturday the 19th, there’s basically no decent surf. The swell drops to nothing, wind is all over the shop. It’s a long gap of a week where you’re better off doing something else.
Things start to stir on the morning of Saturday the 19th. The swell jumps up to 13 ft from the ESE with a period of 11 seconds, and the combined energy hits a whopping 5674. That’s a lot of juice. But, and it’s a big but, the wind is howling cross-shore at 16 mph. It’s messy out there with a cross-chop, so the quality is poor. Sunday the 20th morning is when it gets interesting for the experienced surfer. We’ve got 8 ft of E swell with a period of 10 seconds, combined energy at 1070, and a light SSW cross-off breeze at 6 mph. The water temp is sitting at 68°, which is about normal for this time of year. This is the standout moment for the next couple of weeks. It’s not for everyone though – that 8 ft size is comfortably in the “experts only” zone, especially at a point break. The conditions are clean, and it’s your best bet for a real session.
After that, Monday the 21st morning looks promising for the more moderate surfer. The swell drops to a much more manageable 5 ft from the ESE, with a period of 10 seconds and 590 combined energy. The wind is dead calm and glassy – that’s a huge positive for clean waves. It’s looking like a great, fun-sized morning.
The rest of the week sees the swell tapering off. Thursday the 23rd morning gives us glassy conditions again with a 3 ft swell from the east, which is a nice little window for a clean, smaller wave session. The combined energy is a moderate 209.
Looking further ahead to the second week, we get a small pulse on Sunday the 26th morning. An S swell at 6 ft with 710 combined energy and a cross-off breeze could be worth a look, but it’s short period (8 seconds) and the outlook is less certain. After that, it quickly fades back to small and unappealing.
So, to sum it up: there’s a big gap until the morning of Sunday the 20th, which is hands-down the standout for advanced surfers wanting some proper, clean swell. The following Monday the 21st morning is the pick for a more relaxed, glassy session. After that, conditions get patchy again. Keep an eye on it, because forecasts can change.
Catch you in the water,
Rusty
