Table - best surf conditions forecast for Mullaway over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here.
Alright, let’s break down what’s coming for Mullaway. It’s a bit slow to start, but there’s a couple of real gem days in the second week if you can wait.
The first few days are a bit rough. Wednesday July 8th has a solid 12ft SSE swell with an 11-second period, and the wave energy is pumping at 4488, but that southerly wind at 15 mph is blowing cross-shore and putting a chop on it. Not the kind of session you paddle out for. That afternoon it drops to 8ft, but the wind stays messy. Thursday July 9th is much the same—8ft to 8ft, still cross or cross-off, with strong energy (2017–2064), but the quality just isn’t there. Friday July 10th sees the swell drop to 6ft from the SE, and while the wind eases, it’s still cross-shore. All these days are a pass.
Now, Saturday morning July 11th shows some promise. The swell is down to a modest 4ft from the SE with a 9-second period, but we get a light cross-off breeze that cleans it right up. Wave energy is a moderate 458. It’s not big, but it’s clean. The afternoon goes cross-shore, so aim for the morning.
Sunday July 12th is a real standout. Morning delivers a 3ft ESE swell with a 10-second period and a clean offshore wind from the west. That’s a classic combo for a point break. Wave energy is 214, so it’s mellow, but the conditions are glassy and fun. The arvo goes glassy—3 mph from the SSE, barely a puff. The swell drops to 3ft, but you’ll have it looking like a mirror. Small but beautiful.
Monday July 13th sees the swell drop real low—1ft in the morning with glassy conditions, but it’s barely a ripple. After that, we hit a dry spell. From Tuesday July 14th through Wednesday July 15th, the swell is tiny (0.7ft–1.0ft) and the winds are mostly onshore or cross. It’s flat, plain and simple.
But circle Thursday July 16th. The morning brings a clean, glassy 5ft SSE swell with a 10-second period, and wave energy of 370. It’s a solid building trend. Then Friday July 17th is the real prize. Morning glass-off, 6ft SSE swell with a long 13-second period, and the energy jumps to 1172. That’s quality groundswell with excellent conditions. It’s an advanced wave—steep and powerful, so this is for experienced surfers only. The long period (over 11 seconds) and solid size mean it’ll be peeling nicely at the point, with long waits between sets. Best wave of the outlook.
Saturday July 18th morning is still good—5ft SSE swell with a 12-second period, glassy conditions, and moderate energy at 650. A solid session. Sunday July 19th drops right off again. Monday July 20th brings a short-period 6ft S swell (8 seconds) in the morning with a clean cross-off wind, but the energy is moderate (515). The arvo gets messy with a cross-onshore breeze.
After that, the last few days from July 21st to the 23rd are mostly small and unremarkable. A few clean windows but nothing with enough size to get excited about.
Overall, the standout is Friday July 17th morning—that 6ft SSE groundswell with glassy winds is the one to chase. Sunday July 12th morning is a close second for a smaller, cleaner, more mellow session.
Water temp is sitting at 68°F, which is only about a degree cooler than average—feels pretty normal.
Wind and tide will be key, but for now, that’s the story.
Catch you in the water.
Rusty.
