The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what Mullaway has in store for us over the forecast window.
It’s a bit of a rough start to the outlook. For the first week and a half, the ocean is looking pretty grumpy. There is plenty of swell pushing in, but the wind is just awful - mostly cross or cross-onshore, and often fresh. The wave energy is around (9) to (1867), but the quality is shot, so you’re better off saving your wax. The first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until the morning of Thursday the 23rd.
That Thursday morning is a stand-out window. The wind goes glassy-light and cross-off from the SSW, so Mullaway (point) should be clean. You’ve got a solid 6ft groundswell from the east, with a long 12-second period. The combined energy is strong at (1010). This is for advanced surfers only, given the size and power, but if you can handle it, it’s the best on offer in this outlook.
Friday the 24th morning is also very good. The wind is cross-off from the SSW again, with a 7ft swell from the ESE and that lovely 12-second period. The energy is even bigger at (1400). Again, this is for experienced surfers. Crowds are likely here, especially on these cleaner mornings, so get out early.
After that, things get a little messy again with the wind, but we get one more gem right at the tail end. On Monday the 27th of July, the morning is looking *glassy* with a light SW wind and a clean 4ft swell from the east with a 12-second period. The energy is moderate (511). It’s an excellent morning for a surf.
The very next morning, Tuesday the 28th, could be another one to circle. Glassy conditions again with a WNW breeze and a 4ft, 13-second east swell. The energy is (572). That’s a very clean, inviting start to the day.
So, to sum it up: the first week is a write-off. The standout sessions are Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th for bigger, cleaner waves. Then look to Monday the 27th and Tuesday the 28th for some smaller but glassy fun.
Rusty, signing off.
