Table - best surf conditions forecast for Lennox Head over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what’s coming our way for Lennox Head. The next couple of days are a write-off, flat and uninspiring. We’ve got a dry spell until Wednesday the 15th, so don’t bother paddling out until then.
The real story starts to build on Wednesday afternoon, July 15th. The wind swings cross-off and we get a pulse of southerly swell jumping to 8 ft. The period is short, only 7 seconds, so it’ll be a bit of a washing machine, but there is energy building with combined energy reading 632. The wind stays messy cross-off, though, so it won’t be picture-perfect. Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th are similar, with solid 8 ft to 10 ft southerly swell (882 combined energy on Thursday morning) but the cross-off wind and short period mean it’s going to be a battle. With the size pushing 8 ft and more, this is strictly for the experienced crew. The water temp is pretty average for this time of year, nothing weird going on there.
Now, Saturday the 18th is more of the same – 8 ft from the SE with a short 8-second period and cross-off wind. It’s surfable but raw. The standout window really begins on Sunday the 19th and into Monday the 20th. Sunday morning we see 10 ft from the ESE with an improved 9-second period and combined energy jumping to 1572 – that’s serious power. By Sunday afternoon the period stretches to 10 seconds and energy hits 1699. The wind is still cross-off from the SSE, but that kind of energy on a point break like Lennox Head is built for handling it. Remember, this is a point break; longer-period swells (now over 10 seconds) wrap in nicely here. This is the best window for the advanced surfers who can handle the size and the crowd – Lennox does get busy, especially when it’s good. Monday the 20th holds onto 7 ft to 8 ft from the E with 10-second periods and energy around 1000-1200. Still solid, still good.
The pick of the whole outlook for cleaner conditions? That’s Tuesday the 21st. Morning sees 6 ft from the E, 10-second period, combined energy 673, but the wind turns light offshore from the SSW. That’s the recipe for the cleanest surf of the run. The swell has dropped a bit but it’s still a solid size, and the conditions will be glassy. That’s your best bet for a proper long session. Wednesday the 22nd through Friday the 24th drops down to 4 ft to 4 ft, still with clean offshore winds on many mornings (light SW or WSW), but the energy is low (200-300 range). It’s good for a grovel on a longboard, but nothing to write home about.
The final flurry is on Saturday the 25th afternoon. A 5 ft E swell with an 11-second period and light cross-off wind from the WNW, combined energy 528 – that’s a sneaky good afternoon session if you can get out. After that, it fades into small, ordinary conditions for the end of the month.
Remember, early next week the big, powerful swells are for experts only. Go Tuesday the 21st for the cleanest, most user-friendly surf on offer.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
