Table - best surf conditions forecast for Lennox Head over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s talk about Lennox Head over the next couple of weeks. It’s a slow burn at first, but there’s a solid pulse of energy later on that’s worth getting amped about.
It starts off pretty quiet. Monday the 13th has a small 2ft SSW swell with a short 7-second period and combined energy of 140 (weak). The morning has a light offshore breeze, so it’s clean, but the waves are too weak to care about. By the afternoon, the wind goes onshore and the swell drops off. Tuesday the 14th is even smaller, with a 1ft S swell and combined energy of 42 – basically flat. Wednesday the 15th stays tiny until the afternoon when a quick spike hits 7ft S swell with 406 (moderate) energy, but it’s blown out by 30 km/h cross-off winds and a 7-second period, so it’s a mess.
Thursday the 16th brings a solid 10ft SSE swell with 1221 (strong) combined energy, but the wind is ripping at 30–35 km/h cross-off. That’s for experts only, and even then, it’s rough. The swell stays between 8–10ft through Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th, with combined energy over 1200 (strong), but 30–35 km/h winds and rain keep the quality marginal. This stretch is more for the kite crew than paddle surfers.
Sunday the 19th still has 8–10ft ESE swell with 1254–1344 (strong) energy, and the wind eases a little to 30 km/h, still cross-off. The real standout starts Monday the 20th. The swell holds at 8–8ft ESE with a 10-second period and combined energy around 1297 (strong). The wind drops to 15 km/h cross-off, and by Monday afternoon, conditions turn “excellent for experienced surfers.” That’s your first big highlight – a powerful groundswell with good period and lightening wind. Lennox Head is an exposed point brea, and that SSE-ESE direction matches its optimum (SSE). Crowds are “often,” so expect company.
Then Tuesday the 21st is a gem. The swell drops to a nicer 6ft east swell with 550 (strong) combined energy. The morning is glassy with a 5 km/h west wind, and the water temp is 21°, average for this time of year. That’s a sweet, clean session for advanced surfers.
From Wednesday the 22nd to Friday the 24th, the swell drops to 4–4ft east-northeast with combined energy around 238–307 (moderate). Winds are light and often glassy or offshore in the mornings, making for clean, fun waves. Nothing huge, but quality is solid for a relaxed paddle.
After that, from Saturday the 25th onward, it fades. The swell holds around 3–4ft east-northeast, but combined energy drops to 107–191 (weak), and winds turn choppy or cross-onshore. Sunday the 26th is particularly poor with 20–25 km/h northerly winds and combined energy of 159–191 (weak). Tuesday the 28th is clean with 3ft ENE swell and 107 (weak) energy, but it’s ordinary.
Best bets: Monday the 20th afternoon and Tuesday the 21st morning – big, clean waves for the experienced crew.
Rusty out.
