Table - best surf conditions forecast for Point Cartwright/Secrets over the next 16 days.
Righto, let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Point Cartwright/Secrets. This is a reef and point setup that needs an east-southeast swell to really do its thing, and it’s a spot for the crew who’ve got a few more seasons under their belt.
The water temp is about average for the time of year, so nothing wild there.
The next 16 days kick off with a pretty flat stretch. From Sunday the 12th right through to Wednesday the 15th, it’s mostly small, weak, and ordinary. The odd tiny wave pops up but the wind’s messy, so honestly, don’t bother. You’ll be waiting nearly a week for anything worthwhile.
Thursday the 16th morning sees a jump in size – 5 ft of SSE swell, period around 8 seconds, combined energy of 329 (moderate). It’s offshore wind though, so it’ll be clean. The swell period is short, so it’s a bit of a windswell feel, but the wind’s good. By Thursday afternoon, it’s 8 ft from the SE with a fresh offshore breeze – that’s starting to get into the territory where only the experienced are gonna have fun. The energy’s up to 822 (moderate to strong).
Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th are big – 10 ft to 12 ft of SE swell, periods around 10 seconds, and combined energy hitting four-digit figures (1719, 1476, 1859, 2650). That’s strong to very strong wave energy. The wind stays offshore or cross-offshore, keeping it clean. But this is heavy, serious size. If you’re not an expert, sit this one out.
Now, here’s the standout. Sunday the 19th morning: 12 ft from the SE, period 11 seconds, and a massive combined energy of 5269 (very strong). The wind is cross-offshore, so it’s still clean. That’s a monster day for the crew who can handle it. The swell direction is bang on for Point Cartwright’s optimum, and that long period makes for proper, powerful groundswell lines. But – and this is a big but – with that much energy and size, it’s experts only. Expect a crowd, too, because this spot gets busy when it’s on.
Monday the 20th morning is still punchy at 8 ft from the SE, period 9 seconds, energy 1593 (strong). Light offshore wind, clean conditions. That’s a solid session for experienced surfers, still a bit much for learners.
Tuesday the 21st morning is a real beauty – 6 ft of ESE swell, with a 12-second period, combined energy 870 (moderate to strong). And the wind? Glassy. Dead flat water. That’s a magical morning at Point Cartwright. The swell direction is slightly off the optimum, but the length of the swell and the glassy conditions will make up for it. This is the pick of the run for the intermediate-to-advanced surfer.
Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd mornings also offer clean, surfable waves in the 4 ft to 6 ft range, with offshore winds. Thursday the 23rd morning has 6 ft from the SE, period 10 seconds, energy 1018 (strong), and a gentle offshore breeze – that’s another excellent option for experienced surfers, with a bit more push.
After that, it fades off into smaller, less interesting conditions from Friday the 24th onwards, with onshore winds returning and the energy dropping right off.
So, for the true standout: if you’re an expert, make the call for Sunday the 19th morning – it’s massive, powerful, and clean. For the rest of us, lock in Tuesday the 21st morning. That glassy, 6 ft, 12-second groundswell is gonna be a dream.
Rusty.
