Table - best surf conditions forecast for Diggers over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Diggers is cooking up for the next couple of weeks.
We're starting off with a pulse of serious energy, but it's a bit of a double-edged sword. The water temp is sitting around 68°, which is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real window of opportunity hits on Thursday afternoon, the 9th of July. We've got a solid 8ft swell rolling in from the SSE with a 10-second period, and the combined energy is a hefty 2005. That's a lot of power. The wind is a cross-offshore breeze from the South at 12 mph, which should keep things reasonably clean. But here's the catch: this is a lot of water for a beginner spot. It's predicted to be too big for the break, so this is for the experienced crew only.
Friday morning, the 10th, the swell drops to a more manageable 6ft from the SE. The wind swings to a clean offshore from the SSW at 9 mph. This is where it gets good. Expect very good surf conditions with a combined energy of 784. The afternoon holds, with a light cross-off keeping things tidy.
Now, Saturday morning, the 11th of July, is the absolute standout. The wind goes dead flat – glassy conditions from the NW at 0 mph. The swell is a punchy 4ft from the SE with a 10-second period. This is going to be as clean as it gets. The combined energy is 513, so there's plenty of push. If you can get out there, this is the session to aim for. The afternoon turns a bit onshore, so get it while it's good.
Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th are still surfable, with the swell easing down to 3ft and 2ft. Glassy conditions return on Monday morning, perfect for a longboard or a funboard. The energy is dropping off, but it's still clean.
Then we hit a gap. From Tuesday the 14th through to Wednesday the 15th, it's a write-off. The swell bottoms out below 2ft, and the wind is messy. Not worth paddling out for.
Thursday the 16th sees a rapid pulse of new swell, but it's accompanied by strong, fresh cross-off winds. The swell jumps to 5ft and then 10ft in the afternoon, with energy hitting 3040. It's going to be big and messy, so proceed with caution.
From Friday the 17th right through to Monday the 20th of July, the size just keeps climbing. We're talking 15ft, 18ft, and even 20ft swells with very long 13-second periods. The combined energy is astronomical, hitting 18514 on Saturday morning. This is a massive groundswell event. The wind is cross-off, so it's clean, but these waves are for experts only. It's going to be a sight to behold, but unless you're a pro, watch from the shore. The long period will make it reform a bit, but the sheer power is immense.
The swell finally starts to back down on Tuesday the 21st of July. We get a lovely 6ft SE swell with a clean offshore wind from the SW. This is your second standout window. The energy is a manageable 723, and the conditions are looking very good.
Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd are a bit trickier, with strong offshore winds making the surface bumpy. The swell is still around 4ft, so it's surfable, but it won't be as clean.
The outlook finishes on a promising note. Friday the 24th of July sees a new, clean 6ft SSE swell with a gentle cross-off breeze. The energy is 997, and the forecast says very good conditions. This is a solid chance to get back in the water.
So, to wrap it up: the best sessions are Saturday morning the 11th for the glassy conditions and the Tuesday morning the 21st for the clean, easing swell. The middle of the month is for big-wave chargers only.
Rusty.
