Table - best surf conditions forecast for Diggers over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s on the cards for Diggers over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’re looking at a pretty flat start. Monday the 13th has a tiny 2ft swell from the ESE with a short 8-second period, but the wind is glassy in the morning which is a nice touch. Still, the energy is weak at just 79, so it’s not really worth paddling out for. The rest of that week stays small and mostly poor, with a few afternoon sea breezes messing things up. There’s a bit of a pulse on Wednesday the 15th afternoon, jumping up to 6ft from the SSE, but that’s packing 30 km/h winds – it’s going to be a choppy, wind-affected mess, and honestly, that setup might be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The real wait is until Sunday the 19th. That morning we see a solid 8ft swell from the ESE with a 9-second period, and the combined energy is a hefty 1863 – that’s strong wave energy. But here’s the catch: that size is too big for this break. It’s an exposed spot, and with that much power, it’s going to be a handful. Only experts should even look at it. The wind is cross-off, so it’s clean, but the sheer size rules it out for most.
The standout window starts Monday the 20th of July. Monday morning brings a clean 6ft swell from the east with a 10-second period, and the wind is offshore from the SSW at 15 km/h. The energy is strong at 734, and the conditions are looking very good. This is the best of the run – solid, clean, and a proper long-period groundswell. The 10-second period means good shape and long gaps between sets, making it easier to get out the back. Diggers is a consistent, exposed beginner-friendly spot, but with this size, it’s more for intermediate and up. Crowds are often here, so expect company.
The quality holds into Tuesday the 21st with a 5ft easterly swell and light winds, and Wednesday the 22nd is also clean with 4ft. The energy drops off a bit after that, but there’s a sneak peek on Friday the 24th morning: glassy conditions with a 3ft easterly swell and a 10-second period. That’s a small but clean option for a quiet session.
Further out, the last week of July and into the 28th sees small, weak swells with moderate to strong offshore winds, but the wave heights drop below 3ft and the energy is weak. It’s surfable but nothing to get excited about. The water temperature anomaly is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
The pick of the whole forecast is definitely Monday the 20th of July through Wednesday the 22nd. The Monday morning has the best combo of size, clean offshore wind, and good energy. If you’re after a proper session, that’s your window.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
