The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Forster Beach (Nambucca).
Right off the bat, we’re looking at a bit of a rough patch. The first few days have some size but the wind is a problem, and the conditions are just not coming together for a proper session. It’s not until the middle of next week that things start to clean up, so don’t be in a rush.
Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th: we’ve got swell in the 7ft to 8ft range from the SE, but the wind is a cross-off at 12–19 mph and the scores are poor. The energy is moderate to strong (582 to 1600), but the period is short around 7–9 seconds, so it’s lumpy and messy. Not worth paddling out for.
Sunday the 19th is a big one – swell hits 12ft from the ESE with a 10-second period, and the combined energy is strong (around 2359 and 2117). But the warning is clear: it’s too big for this break. The wind is cross-shore at 16–19 mph and it’s gonna be a choppy, chunky mess. For the experienced crew only, and even then, it’s going to be a battle. Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Monday the 20th drops back to 8ft–8ft, but the wind is still cross and cross-on, and the energy is moderate (1138–1290). Still not the clean stuff we’re after.
Here’s where it gets interesting. Tuesday morning the 21st is the standout of the week. The swell drops to 6ft from the E with a 10-second period, and the wind goes glassy – a light WNW breeze at 3 mph. The water is about average for this time of year. The combined energy is moderate (628) but the conditions are “glassy.” That’s the window. Forster Beach (Nambucca) will be clean, with fun, shapely waves. Morning session is the call. The afternoon gets onshore and messy, so don’t sleep in.
Wednesday the 22nd and Thursday the 23rd are small – 3ft to 4ft – with poor wind and low energy (155–289). Not worth it.
Friday the 24th brings a pulse back: 7ft–8ft from the S with a 10-second period, and cross-off winds at 12–16 mph. The energy is moderate to strong (598–1370) and the conditions are clean. This is a decent option, but it’s not as clean as Tuesday morning.
Saturday the 25th morning is another good call: 6ft from the SSE with an 11-second period, light SW winds at 6 mph, and energy around 891. The description says “very good surf conditions.” Clean, lined up, and manageable size. That’s a solid pick.
Sunday the 26th through to the end of the month: we see a few more pulses of 7ft–8ft from the S and SSE with cross-off winds, and the energy stays moderate to strong (up to 2214). The conditions are clean, but the swell direction is a bit off the optimum for this break. Still, it’s surfable and better than the first few days.
Tuesday the 29th through to Thursday the 31st: the swell drops to 1ft–6ft, and the conditions are clean with offshore or cross-off winds. The energy is low to moderate (99–790). Small but clean – good for a longboard or a fun session.
Overall, the best of the lot is Tuesday morning the 21st – glassy, clean, and a solid 6ft from the E. After that, Saturday the 25th morning is a close second.
For the second week, things look more inconsistent. The swell drops right off by the end of July and into August, with only small pulses. The 31st of July and 1st of August show a bit of a bump from the S with 5ft–6ft and clean conditions, but it’s nothing to get too excited about. The long-range signs are promising but less certain.
Rusty.
