Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, it’s Rusty. Here’s how it shakes out in feet and Fahrenheit.
Right now, it’s flat as a pancake, nothin’ to ride until Friday. Couple days of lookin’ at a mirror – but hang tight, there’s a bit of life comin’.
First shot is Friday morning, July 3rd at Forster Beach (Nambucca). Waves are tiny – 3 feet from the ENE, period a short 7 seconds, energy a weak 115. But the wind? Glassy. Dead flat water, clean as a whistle. Water temp is about 68°, right on average for this time of year – no surprises there. Perfect for a beginner to paddle around, but no bark.
Friday afternoon the wind shifts SW at 9 mph, turnin’ offshore and cleanin’ it up. Still the same 3-foot swell, energy 110. It’s surfable, but forget any heroics.
Now Saturday morning, July 4th – this is the one to wake up for. Swell jumps to 4 feet from the S, 8-second period, energy 392 – moderate but lively. Wind is light SSW at 3 mph, cross-off, so the face is clean and shapin’ up. For a beginner-friendly spot, this is a nice little window. Waves are small enough to be safe, but there’s enough push to have fun. Crowds? “Sometimes” – you might share the peaks, but not a zoo.
Saturday afternoon fades to 2 feet E swell with a 12-second period – longer lulls, but cross-shore wind messes it up a bit.
Sunday morning, July 5th – 4 feet from the S, 9-second period, energy 303. Clean cross-off wind. Good, steady waves for the learner-to-intermediate crew.
Sunday afternoon gets punchy: 7 feet from the S, 8-second period, energy 621 – that’s strong. Wind’s 16 mph cross-off, clean but powerful. For a beginner spot, 7 feet is pushin’ it – stay out if you’re new.
Monday morning, July 6th – monster: 10 feet SSE swell, 10-second period, energy 1656. Clean wind, but the forecast says it’s too big for this break. Same story Tuesday the 7th: 10 feet SSE, 11-second period, energy over 3000. That’s expert-only, and honestly, a beach like this might be better for kite surfing.
Wednesday morning, July 8th – back down to 8 feet SE swell, 11-second period, energy 1439. Clean cross-off, excellent for experienced surfers. Long period (11 seconds) means better-shaped waves with longer breaks between sets – easier paddlin’ out. Still big, so leave the foam boards at home.
Thursday morning, July 9th – 5 feet SSE swell, 10-second period, energy 782. Glassy wind. This is the standout for intermediates – clean, glassy, solid chest-to-head-high waves. Mark it on the calendar.
Then it fades. Friday the 10th has 5 feet SE swell, clean mornin’. By Sunday the 12th, we’re down to 2 feet – barely a ripple. Long gap of poor surf through the 13th.
Tuesday morning, July 14th – a late pulse: 6 feet S swell, 11-second period, energy 667, clean offshore wind at 12 mph. That’s a groundswell with long period – shape and power but long waits. It’ll be fun, but long-period S swell can feel a bit straight at a beach break.
After that, Wednesday the 15th through Friday the 17th is weak slop.
Saturday morning, July 18th – another uptick: 5 feet S swell, 9-second period, energy 369, cross-off wind. Rideable but marginal. The afternoon bumps to 6 feet S, 8-second period, energy 462 – solid for the experienced.
The best bet? Thursday morning, July 9th – glassy, 5 feet, clean, and the water’s a comfortable 68°. For beginners, Saturday morning, July 4th is your safest call: small, clean, and forgiving.
That’s the long and short of it. Keep your wetsuit zipped and your eyes on the horizon.
