The Lowdown
Imperial Version
Alright, listen up. Forster Beach (Nambucca) is our only player for this forecast, so let’s see what it’s got. The water temp is sitting at a pretty normal 67°, nothing out of the ordinary there for this time of year. We’ve got a bit of a dry spell to start, but things get interesting later on.
The first real shot of decent surf hits Wednesday the 19th in the morning. We’re looking at a solid 5ft swell out of the ESE with a period around 10 seconds, giving us a moderate 477 energy reading. The wind is glassy, dead calm from the SW at just 3 mph. That’s going to be clean as a whistle for the beginners this spot is known for. It won’t last, though – the afternoon turns onshore.
We then hit a bit of a lull. Thursday the 20th through to Tuesday the 25th is mostly a write-off with onshore winds and junk swell. Thursday morning has a bit of size but the wind is cross-on, and by the afternoon it’s a choppy mess. Friday the 21st morning has a tiny 3ft glassy wave, but it’s weak with only 90 energy and a short period. Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd are even smaller. Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th are just poor, with strong onshore winds and lumpy conditions. A rough patch for sure.
Now, here’s where it gets promising. Wednesday the 26th morning sees a switch. A clean offshore breeze from the WSW at 12 mph, with a 3ft swell from the ENE. The energy is a solid 243, and it’s clean. Thursday the 27th morning is a standout: dead calm, glassy conditions with a 4ft S swell, period of 8 seconds, and 269 energy. That’s a great window for a paddle. Friday the 28th morning is also looking good with glassy conditions and a 4ft S swell.
But the real big dog shows up on Sunday the 30th of August. That morning, a fresh 19 mph offshore from the SW is blowing over an 8ft S swell. The energy is massive – a whopping 1709. This is serious power, and at 8ft it’s pushing into expert territory, especially at a beach break. Monday the 31st is even bigger, with a 10ft SSE groundswell and a 12-second period. That’s 2742 energy. That’s too big for this spot, and the forecast even says as much. This is kite-surfing territory for sure.
The first week of September sees things settle back down. The 1st is marginal, but Wednesday the 2nd morning brings back the glass with a clean 4ft SSE swell and 297 energy. A nice little finale to the outlook.
Overall, the best bet for a normal surfer is the morning of Thursday the 27th of August. Glassy, clean, 4ft of S swell. For the brave souls, the offshore windows on the 26th and 28th mornings are also solid. The big stuff at the end of August is only for the experienced crew, and even then, it’s a lot of water moving around.
Stay safe out there.
