Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s have a proper look at what’s coming up for Forster Beach (Nambucca). It’s a pretty quiet start, but there’s a big run of solid swell on the way – though a lot of it will be too much for this spot.
Sunday the 5th kicks things off with a small, clean 3ft south swell, some cross-off wind, and water temp around 68° – that’s pretty much what you’d expect for winter (anomaly -1°). The combined energy is a modest 239, so nothing exciting but it’s a surfable wave for the beginners out there. By the afternoon, it jumps to 8ft from the south, but the energy ramps up big time to 1703 – still, the conditions are a bit messy and the tide might mess with it, so it’s not a standout.
Monday the 6th through to Wednesday the 8th is where it gets heavy. We’re looking at 10ft+ swell from the SSE, with energy readings shooting from 1983 right up to 4153. That’s way too big for this beginner-friendly beach break – honestly, only for the experienced crew, and even then, the wind is cross-off, not ideal for the size. The tide might be okay, but the swell is just overpowering.
Thursday the 9th finally drops to a more manageable 7ft from the SSE, still with solid energy (2042) but now the wind is a gentle cross-off from the SW. This is the first session that’s genuinely excellent for experienced surfers. It stays clean through the morning and afternoon, so if you’ve got the skills, this is a good call.
Friday the 10th sees the swell ease to 6ft from the SE, energy down to 733. Morning has a light SW cross-off breeze, so clean conditions – very good surf for the intermediate crew. The afternoon gets a bit more cross-shore, so it’s less tidy.
Saturday the 11th is a highlight. Glassy offshore wind from the WSW in the morning, with a 5ft SE swell. The period is 10 seconds, so it’s got a bit of push, and the energy is 437. This is clean, well-shaped surf – the best on offer across the whole outlook. Beginners will be fine at this size, and the crowd factor says “sometimes,” so you might have company, but it’s worth it.
Sunday the 12th stays small but glassy again – 3ft from the ESE, with a light NNW breeze making it mirror-flat. Great for a longboard or a funboard session, energy only 296. Monday the 13th drops further to 2ft, and by Tuesday the 14th it’s flat with 0.7ft – a real lull.
Wednesday the 15th brings a new pulse: 5ft from the south, but the period is short at 8 seconds, so it’s a bit weak and choppy. Offshore wind helps, but it’s nothing special.
Now, from Thursday the 16th onward, we get another huge swell event. 12ft on Thursday, 21ft on Friday the 17th (with a very long 13-second period), and 13ft on Saturday the 18th. The energy numbers are massive – 2717, 23680, 25405 – but this is all way too big for Forster Beach. The wave comment says it’s too big for the break, and I’d only recommend it for absolute experts, and even then, the wind and tide aren’t perfect. This stretch is more for watching than paddling.
Sunday the 19th finally settles down to 7ft from the SE, with clean cross-off wind from the SSW. Energy is 947, and conditions are very good again. If you missed the earlier windows, this is your second-best call – similar to Thursday the 9th.
Monday the 20th ends the run with a small 5ft SE swell, clean enough but nothing to write home about.
Overall, the standout is Saturday the 11th – glassy offshore wind, 5ft SE swell, and clean waves for everyone. The second pick is Thursday the 9th for the experienced crew. Most of the other days are either too big, too small, or just average. For a beginner-friendly spot, the swell gets way too aggressive in the middle and again at the end, so keep an eye on the calendar.
Stay safe, and don’t paddle out if it’s over your head.
Rusty.
