The Lowdown
Righto, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the Nambucca stretch.
Things kick off on Sunday the 19th with a big, thumping 10ft ESE swell – that’s serious energy, over 2500 in the combined reading, so it’s got grunt. But at Forster Beach (Nambucca), that’s way too much for a beginner-friendly spot. The wind is a cross-off S 15 mph, which keeps it clean, but this is expert-only territory. Water temp is 68°, pretty much average for July, so nothing freaky there.
Monday the 20th is still solid for the experienced crew. The swell drops to 8ft E on Monday morning, with a 11-second period and clean cross-off wind. It’s still big, still powerful. The afternoon holds at 8ft, same vibe. Not for the faint-hearted.
Then Tuesday the 21st morning is a beauty – 6ft E swell, glassy as with WSW 3 mph and the combined energy is 731. That’s a proper clean window, and the rating holds up. The afternoon goes onshore though, so get out early.
Wednesday the 22nd morning is another glassy gem – 4ft ENE swell, light NNW air, and clean. Afternoon gets messy with NE cross-on. The swell drops through the week, with Thursday the 23rd seeing tiny 3ft waves and average conditions.
The standout? You’ve got to look at Friday the 24th morning. A solid 6ft S swell rolls in, 9-second period, cross-off SSW 6 mph, and the combined energy jumps to 1117. That’s a proper fun size for experienced surfers, clean and punchy. The morning is the call; the afternoon goes cross-on.
Saturday the 25th morning has a 4ft S swell with a longer 13-second period – groundswell – and it’s clean. The longer period means better shaped waves, but beach breaks can get a bit straight. Still, it’s a good session.
The swell hangs around 4ft to 5ft through the next few days, with some clean mornings. Sunday the 26th morning is clean, but the afternoon gets blown out by a strong SSE 15 mph. Monday the 27th morning is back to 5ft S and clean – worth a look.
Then we hit a lull. From Wednesday the 29th, the swell drops to tiny 2ft and lower, with minimal energy. Thursday and Friday the 30th and 31st are flat and poor. That’s a few days of nothing.
But hold on – Saturday the 1st of August morning brings a new pulse: 7ft S swell, clean cross-off wind, 711 energy. That’s a solid, well-sized offering. Sunday the 2nd morning is glassy with a 5ft S swell – another beauty. And Monday the 3rd morning has a 8ft S swell, 11-second period, clean. That’s big, so only for the experienced crew.
Overall, the best windows are Tuesday the 21st morning for the glassy, clean 6ft, and Friday the 24th morning for the meaty 6ft S swell with clean wind. The long-range standouts on August 1st and 2nd mornings are promising but a bit far out to lock in.
No crowds mentioned for here, so it’s a quiet spot mostly.
Rusty.
