Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way.
We’ve got a bit of a slow start, but it kicks off with some serious size. The first surf on offer hits Monday afternoon the 6th of July, but honestly, Forster Beach (Nambucca) is just too big for a comfortable paddle. We’re looking at a solid 10 ft swell from the SSE, and the combined energy is pumping at 2078 – that’s a lot of juice. The wind is a cross-off S at 16 mph, so it’ll be clean, but with that size and a 10-second period, it’s only going to appeal to the absolute guns. Water temp is sitting at 67°F, which is about 1°F cooler than normal for this time of year – nothing crazy, just a touch on the fresh side.
Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th are still dominated by that big SSE swell, peaking at 12 ft on Tuesday with energy readings over 5000, so it’s a proper beast. Winds stay cross-off, so the face will be clean, but again, this is expert territory only. By Wednesday afternoon it drops to 8 ft, but the quality drops too with a marginal call from the data.
Now, Thursday the 9th is where things get interesting. The swell drops to a much more manageable 6 ft from the SSE, and we get a proper offshore wind from the SW at 9 mph. That’s the first real standout window for experienced surfers – clean, glassy faces, and the energy is still solid at 1005. Friday morning the 10th keeps that good vibe going with a 6 ft SE swell and light offshore SW wind at 6 mph. These two mornings are the pick of the first week.
Saturday the 11th is all about the glass-off. The swell drops to 5 ft from the SE, but with a WNW wind at 3 mph, it’s dead glassy. For a beach break, that’s a beautiful thing – the waves will be clean, even if they’re a bit smaller. That morning is worth a paddle. The afternoon goes a bit onshore from the NE, so get out early.
Sunday the 12th sees the swell drop further to 4 ft from the ESE, but the wind swings back offshore from the WSW. It’ll be clean and small, good for a longboard.
We hit a flat spell from Monday the 13th through to Thursday the 16th. Swell sizes hover around 2 ft to 3 ft, and the energy drops to under 200 – just not enough push. A few glassy moments on Tuesday the 14th morning and Wednesday the 15th morning, but honestly, it’s scratchy.
Then we get a bit of a pulse for Friday the 17th. The swell bumps back up to 6 ft from the S, with a 12-second period on the afternoon, and energy jumps to 1234. The morning is clean with a light SW wind, but the afternoon gets a bit of cross-chop from the SSE. Worth a look for the morning session.
Saturday the 18th holds at 6 ft from the SSE, again clean in the morning with light SW wind. Not a standout, but a solid option.
And then, looking further ahead to Sunday the 19th, we’ve got a real gem. A 6 ft SSE swell with a long 12-second period, and glassy conditions with a light W wind at 3 mph. The energy is back over 1000, and the data calls it excellent for experienced surfers. That morning looks like the best on offer in the whole run.
Finally, Tuesday the 21st brings another good pulse: 8 ft from the S, glassy all day, with energy around 1100. That’s a serious, clean swell, but at 8 ft it’s getting into expert-only territory again. If you’ve got the skills, that Tuesday morning is a beauty.
Overall, the standout mornings are Thursday the 9th, Friday the 10th, and that Sunday the 19th. The glassy Saturday the 11th is a close second for the smaller-wave crew. The first half of the week after that is pretty flat, but the second week has a couple of promising pulses, especially that Sunday.
Stay safe out there.
