Table - best surf conditions forecast for Forster Beach (Nambucca) over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll be straight with you – for the next 16 days, Forster Beach (Nambucca) is mostly a tale of waiting for a few fleeting windows. The patchy, inconsistent surf and the often onshore or cross-onshore winds mean we’re not looking at a classic run. The water sits at 67°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real glimmer of something decent hits on Monday, August 24th. That morning, it’s glassy with a light easterly breeze, and a 2ft south swell with an 11-second period pushes in. The combined energy is moderate (223), and the conditions are clean. It’s a beginner-friendly wave, but it’s the best clean window we’ll see for a while. The afternoon goes to crap with a strong onshore kick, so get out early.
We then hit a dry patch. Tuesday, August 25th through to Thursday, August 27th are all cross-onshore and lumpy, with the wind ripping and the swell period dropping short. Forget it. Friday, August 28th morning offers another chance: glassy again, 3ft south swell, 8-second period, and clean conditions. The energy is solid (233), but it’s short-lived as the afternoon turns onshore again.
The following week is even more of a mixed bag. Monday, August 31st morning is a standout, though. A clean 2ft south swell, but with a very long 17-second period, rolling in. The combined energy jumps to 360. That’s a proper groundswell, and it’ll wrap in nicely, though at a beach break it might be a bit too straight. Still, with the light offshore cross-off wind, it’s the best of the lot. Tuesday, September 1st morning has a similar long-period swell (18 seconds) and even more energy (458), but it’s onshore wind, so the quality is questionable.
The last real highlight is Wednesday, September 2nd morning. Glassy, clean, with a 3ft east-northeast swell at 9 seconds. The energy is moderate (249), and the conditions are perfect. After that, it’s back to onshore breezes and small, weak waves through to September 7th. The final morning on the 7th has a glassy 4ft wave, but it’s a short-period (5 seconds) windswell, so it’s not going to have any punch.
Overall, the best bet is the Monday, August 31st morning – that long-period groundswell with clean wind is the standout. The glassy windows on the 24th and 28th mornings are also worth a look, but don’t expect much after 10am. This stretch is all about picking the mornings and being patient.
