Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G'day, Rusty here. Let's talk about the waves on offer for Forster Beach (Nambucca) over the next couple of weeks.
We've got a bit of a wild start with some serious size, but the real standouts are going to be those cleaner, smaller windows that pop up later. The water temp is sitting at 67°, which is just a touch cooler than average for this time of year – nothing too crazy, just a bit of a nip in the air.
Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th are a bit of a write-off for paddle surfing. Yeah, there's a solid 10 ft to 12 ft, groundswell from the SSE with a period around 11 seconds, and the wind is cross-off, so it'll look clean. But the combined energy is absolutely pumping (5355 to 3435) which means it's way too big for a beginner-friendly spot like this. This is more of a kite-surfing show if anything.
Now, things start to settle down from Thursday the 9th. Thursday morning is a bit iffy, but by Thursday afternoon and into Friday the 10th, we're looking at cleaner 6 ft to 7 ft swell from the SE (period 10 seconds). The wind is a light breeze, cross-off, and the wave energy has dropped to a much more manageable level (1003 to 678). This is the real sweet spot. The afternoon on Thursday and the whole of Friday offer up some genuinely good conditions for a more intermediate surfer to get amongst it.
Saturday the 11th is a ripper for the early crew. The morning is glassy, dead calm, with a clean 5 ft SE swell. That’s a beautiful combo. The swell period is a bit shorter at 9 seconds, but with no wind, it’ll be fun and small enough for a relaxed paddle. The afternoon does turn a bit lumpy though.
From Sunday the 12th through to Wednesday the 15th, the surf drops right off. We’re looking at waves under 3 ft, mostly clean but very weak. The combined energy falls to between 43 and 217, so it's not worth getting too excited about. There's a gap of about 4 days with pretty ordinary, small surf.
Then, on Thursday the 16th, the ocean wakes up again. We see a jump to 8 ft from the S (12 seconds) in the morning, and a long-period 4 ft from the S (15 seconds) in the afternoon. The wave energy spikes to 2951 and 1367. The morning will be borderline too big for the beach, and the wind is a moderate breeze, but it's cross-off, so the lines will be clean. The afternoon has that 15-second period, which is proper groundswell – those waves will have some grunt, but at a beach break, they can be a bit straight.
The best bet in the second week is definitely Saturday the 18th morning. The swell drops to a manageable 5 ft from the SSE, and we finally get offshore winds from the WSW with a light breeze. The combined energy is a moderate 382, and it's marked as having good conditions. That’s a solid call for a clean, punchy session.
For the absolute standout, I'm calling Thursday the 9th afternoon and Friday the 10th. The swell size is just right for the break, the wind is light and cross-off, and the energy is still enough to push fun waves.
Stay safe out there.
Rusty.
