The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk about what’s cooking for Forster Beach (Nambucca). That’s on the Nambucca coast, by the way.
We’ve got a bit of a mixed bag here over the next couple of weeks. The first real action worth paddling out for kicks off on Monday morning, 17 August. The swell is a clean 4ft out of the ESE with a short 7-second period, and it’s blowing a light cross-offshore from the SW. The water’s sitting at 67°, which is about normal for this time of year, nothing unusual there. The combined wave energy is moderate at 273, so there’s a bit of push behind it, but that short period means the waves won’t be holding their shape perfectly. It’s still a fun, clean morning for a beginner-friendly spot.
Tuesday, 18 August, is looking even better. Morning starts with a light cross-offshore again, 4ft ESE swell. But the real standout is Tuesday afternoon: glassy conditions, 5ft swell from the SE, and that 8-second period. The wave energy is moderate at 368, and the glassy surface means you’ll be surfing on a mirror. That’s a sweet window for a long session.
Wednesday morning, 19 August, is another glassy winner. Same 5ft swell, but the period bumps up to 10 seconds, pushing the energy up to 477. That longer period gives the waves more shape and punch, making it the best of the early week. Really nice.
Now, after Wednesday, the surf drops off. Thursday and Friday see the swell shrinking and the wind turning onshore and choppy. There’s a gap of poor conditions from Thursday, 20 August, through to Sunday, 23 August, with only tiny, weak waves on offer. The energy dips to around 73–97, barely worth a look.
There’s a little flicker of life Monday afternoon, 24 August, with a clean 3ft NE swell and a cross-off breeze, but the size is pretty ordinary.
Then we get a bit of a windswell bump on Wednesday morning, 26 August, with 5ft from the SSE but the wind is blowing 15 mph cross-offshore. It’s clean but the period is short at 7 seconds, and the energy is moderate at 268. It’s more of a windy, choppy day unless you’re into messing about.
The real highlight of the whole outlook is Sunday morning, 30 August. That’s the one. A solid 6ft swell from the S with a long 11-second period, clean cross-offshore wind from the S at 6 mph, and the wave energy is a strong 862. That’s proper groundswell, with real power and shape. It’s going to be a cracking session for anyone who knows what they’re doing. The only thing to watch is that the beach is exposed, so that long-period S swell might hit the banks a bit straight, but the conditions are otherwise perfect. Crowds are possible at Forster Beach, so get there early.
After that, the swell fades again into the first days of September, with only tiny, weak waves on offer.
To sum it up: the standout windows are Tuesday afternoon, 18 August, glassy and clean, and Sunday morning, 30 August, with that strong, long-period S swell. The rest is mostly small or messy.
