The Lowdown
Alright, grab a coffee and pull up a stump. Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for Forster Beach (Nambucca).
We’re looking at a bit of a slow burner. The first few days are pretty much a write-off, with tiny dribbles and messy winds. The real action doesn’t kick in until later in the week. The best of the best is shaping up to be Sunday morning the 19th of July, but it’s a big fella, and then we’ve got a solid run of clean, surfable waves from the 20th through the 25th. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing weird going on there.
Let’s break it down. Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th are a total bust. We’re talking knee-high slop at 0.7ft to 1ft with weak energy (9 to 14), and the wind is all over the shop. Thursday the 16th sees some swell start to build, 6ft to 7ft from the S/SSE, but it’s short period (7 seconds) and the wind is cross-off, making it messy. The energy is moderate (522 to 627), but the quality is marginal. Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th are similar stories – moderate energy (471 to 1130) but the wind and chop keep it from being any good.
Now, Sunday the 19th of July morning is the standout. The swell is pumping at 10ft from the ESE with a long 10-second period, and the energy is strong (1688). The wind is a clean, cross-off SSW breeze. This is a big one – over 8ft, so it’s strictly for experienced surfers. The break is a beginner spot, so this will be a handful. It’s too big for the average punter, but if you’ve got the skills, the morning will be epic. The afternoon drops a bit to 8ft but stays solid.
Monday the 20th of July morning is a cracker. The swell is still a solid 8ft from the E, 10-second period, with strong energy (1144). The wind is light and cross-off, making for clean waves. The crowd at Forster Beach can be ‘sometimes’ busy, so get in early. This is a great option for experienced surfers, and the report says “excellent surf conditions” for you lot.
The rest of the week from Tuesday the 21st to Friday the 24th of July sees the swell settle into a very consistent 5ft to 7ft from the E, with a long 10-second period. The energy is moderate to strong (465 to 953). The real highlight is Wednesday the 22nd of July morning with glassy, offshore conditions and a 6ft swell. Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th of July mornings are also glassy with 5ft waves. These are the best days for the everyday surfer.
The last few days, from the 26th of July on, start to fade. The swell drops to 3ft to 5ft, and the energy drops off (224 to 381). Still clean and glassy in the mornings, but definitely smaller.
Overall, the best bet is the 19th for the big-wave crew, and the 20th through the 25th for the rest of us. The break is a beach, so it’s a bit of a free-for-all, but with the long period E swell, it’ll be breaking well.
Rusty.
