Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it. We’ve got a solid run of surf ahead, but it’s not all smooth sailing. The first few days are looking tasty, then we get a proper battering from the wind before things clean up again into the second week.
We’re starting off with Hullets Reef as the main focus. This is a beginner-friendly reef break that’s fairly consistent, and it’s exposed to the swell. Water temp is sitting at 66°, which is about average for this time of year, so no surprise there.
The action kicks off on Friday the 3rd. It’s a bit marginal in the morning with a 7ft SE swell and a cross-shore breeze, but the afternoon is where it’s at. We get that 8ft SE swell going glassy – absolutely dead calm. For a reef break, that’s prime time. You’ll find some serious fun out there. The combined energy is strong at 1371.
Saturday the 4th keeps the good times rolling. Clean in the morning with a 7ft SE swell from the WNW, and then it goes glassy again in the afternoon with a 6ft SE swell. This is clean, lined-up reef surfing with moderate wave energy (1046). It’s a proper standout for the weekend.
Sunday the 5th sees the swell dip to 5ft, but it’s still clean in the afternoon with a light offshore. Not a blower, but plenty of fun for the beginner crew.
Then Monday the 6th we get a shift. The swell switches to a 7ft SW groundswell (12-second period) with clean conditions in the morning and strong energy (1428). This is for the experienced ones – it’s a bit more power, and the reef will handle that direction nicely.
Tuesday the 7th keeps the SW groundswell running at 7-7ft, and it’s clean all day. Strong energy levels (1475 in the morning), but it’s manageable for the right surfer.
Now, Wednesday the 8th is the start of the blow. The swell is still 8ft from the SW with a 13-second period, but that W wind is pumping at 19 mph. It’s cross-off, so it’s clean, but the wind is cooking. Energy is very strong at 1802, but the conditions are marginal.
Thursday the 9th is where it gets ugly. The swell jumps to 12ft from the SSW on Thursday afternoon, but with a 16 mph cross-onshore wind, it’s choppy and messy. Combined energy is massive at 3852, but it’s a no-go for a paddle. If you’ve got a kite, this setup looks way more interesting than a surfboard.
From Friday the 10th through Sunday the 12th, it’s a write-off. Strong onshore winds, lumpy conditions, and a massive storm system. The swell is there, but the quality is gone.
We get a break in the weather on Monday the 13th. The wind swings offshore from the WSW in the afternoon, and we get a clean 4ft SSW groundswell. It’s small but clean, and the energy is moderate (757). A good recovery session.
Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th are small and marginal, with 3ft or less. Not worth getting wet for.
Now, Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th are the next real peak. We get a 7ft SW groundswell with a very long 15-16 second period. This is prime groundswell energy (2234). The catch is that it’s cross-onshore or onshore, so the reef might be the saving grace to keep it from closing out. Friday the 17th afternoon looks cleaner with a 5ft SW swell and offshore wind, giving us excellent conditions for experienced surfers.
Saturday the 18th is back to howling winds, 31 mph from the W, so skip it.
The standout sessions are hands-down Friday afternoon the 3rd for the glassy 8ft SE swell, and Saturday the 4th for clean, consistent surf all day. The groundswell run from Monday the 6th through Tuesday the 7th is also top-tier for anyone with a bit of experience.
Be smart, pick your windows, and I’ll see you out there.
