Table - best surf conditions forecast for Hullets Reef over the next 16 days.
Yo, it’s Rusty. Let’s talk about the surf outlook for Hullets Reef over the next 16 days. This is a solid reef break that’s beginner-friendly with a SW exposure, and it’s fairly consistent. The water’s sitting at 64°F, about 2°F cooler than usual for this time of year – a bit of a chill, but nothing too wild.
The forecast kicks off with a bang. Thursday the 9th, we’ve got a solid SW swell rolling in at 12ft with a period of 14 seconds and a combined energy of 4139 – that’s strong energy, no doubt. The morning wind is a cross-off from the WSW at 19 mph, keeping things clean. This is big, powerful groundswell, so it’s more for experienced surfers – beginners should sit this one out. The afternoon cleans up even more with offshore wind at 16 mph, dropping to 10ft and a period of 13 seconds. This is a standout: excellent conditions for the crew that can handle it.
Friday the 10th keeps the momentum. Morning sees a 12ft SSW swell with a 13-second period, cross-off wind, and strong energy at 4016. The afternoon is even better with offshore breeze at just 6 mph, dropping to 10ft – still solid, still clean, and still only for the experienced. This is another top pick.
Saturday the 11th takes a turn. The swell drops to 10ft in the morning, but the wind switches to a cross-on from the ENE at 9 mph, making things choppy. By afternoon, it’s 8ft with a moderate cross-on breeze – quality drops off fast. The weekend is a write-off from here.
Sunday the 12th through Tuesday the 14th is a dead zone. Swell drops below 6ft with poor wind and onshore conditions. The combined energy plummets to under 1000. Not worth paddling out.
Wednesday the 15th offers a glimmer. The morning sees a cross-off breeze at 19 mph, but the swell is only 4ft from the east with a short period of 9 seconds – weak energy at 334. The afternoon has offshore wind, but it’s still small and marginal. Not a highlight.
Thursday the 16th brings a big spike – a 12ft SW swell with a 10-second period and energy of 3264. But the wind is a near gale at 34 mph, making it a mess. The afternoon improves to a 14-second period and 5027 energy, but the wind is a cross-off gale – still rough and only for the hardcore.
Friday the 17th through Sunday the 19th is mostly poor. Swells hold around 8ft, but wind is onshore or cross-on, with strong breezes making it lumpy and messy. Not recommended.
Monday the 20th shows a bit of life. The morning is light cross-shore at 6 mph with a 6ft east swell – marginal. But the afternoon turns offshore at 6 mph, dropping to 5ft with clean conditions. It’s small but surfable.
Tuesday the 21st is a standout for the second week. The afternoon brings a 7ft SW swell with a 14-second period, offshore wind at 12 mph, and energy of 2224. This is clean, powerful groundswell – excellent for experienced surfers again. The morning is a bit more mixed, but the afternoon is the pick.
Wednesday the 22nd keeps it going. The afternoon sees a 8ft SSW swell with a very long 16-second period and energy of 4194 – that’s a lot of power. The wind is cross-off, keeping it clean. This is a big, long-period groundswell, so it’ll be better at this reef than a beach break, but it’s still a solid option for the experienced.
The rest of the outlook fades out. Thursday the 23rd has offshore wind in the morning with a 7ft SW swell, but the afternoon turns cross-shore and choppy. Friday the 24th is small and onshore.
Overall, the first week is the clear winner, with Thursday and Friday the 9th and 10th being the best on offer. The second week has a couple of good days on the 21st and 22nd, but it’s less certain. Keep an eye on the long-range stuff.
Rusty.
