Righto, let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the next stretch. I’m only looking at one spot here, so this is the story for the whole period.

Alright, to be straight with you, the first week or so is a bit of a mixed bag. There’s some decent swell rolling through, but it’s often fighting with the wind. The standout for the whole run is shaping up to be a fair way out, but it looks like a cracker if it comes together. Let’s walk through it day by day.

We kick off on Thursday, the 9th of July. There’s a solid 12 ft swell from the southwest, with a period of 14 seconds – that’s proper groundswell. The energy is massive, with a reading of 4139. But the wind is a cross-off from the west-southwest at 19 mph, which keeps it clean but a bit rough around the edges. It’s not beginner stuff, that’s for sure. That big swell hangs around Friday the 10th, easing a bit in the afternoon to 10 ft, and the wind drops to a light breeze from the south at 6 mph. That afternoon looks much more inviting, with clean conditions and a score that suggests it’s worth a look for experienced surfers. Crowds are possible here.

Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th are write-offs. The wind swings onshore, the swell drops, and it gets choppy. A few days to sit out.

Then Monday the 13th of July throws a curveball. The swell is only 6 ft, from the east, with a short period of 7 seconds – that’s windswell, not much grunt. But the wind is glassy, absolutely still. That’s a major positive. It’ll be clean as a whistle, but the wave quality will be lacking. The energy is weak (942). It’s a tricky one.

We hit a real dry spell from Tuesday the 14th through to Friday the 17th. The surf is either too small, onshore, or just plain messy. There’s a big spike of swell on Thursday the 16th with a 8 ft southwest swell and a near gale blowing, making it a total mess. Friday the 17th sees a 10 ft southwest swell, but the wind is cross-onshore and choppy. Not worth paddling out.

Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th are a mixed bag. Saturday is a write-off with strong onshore winds and a 8 ft swell. But Sunday the 19th afternoon has a clean-up. A 3 ft swell from the southwest, period of 14 seconds, and a gentle offshore wind from the southwest. It’s small, but it’ll be clean and fun on a longboard. The energy is moderate (632).

Now, the real highlight. The end of the forecast window is where it gets interesting. On Wednesday the 22nd of July, we’ve got a 10 ft to 12 ft swell from the southwest, with a period of 15 seconds – that’s very long period groundswell. The energy is enormous (5859). The wind is a strong cross-off, so it’ll be clean but powerful. This is for experts only, and it’s a reef, so it’s set up for it. The very long period might make it a bit straight at some spots, but on a reef, it should be holding up well.

Then, the absolute standout. Friday the 24th of July. This is the one. A 13 ft swell from the southwest, with a 16-second period. The energy is off the charts at 8152. The wind is a gentle cross-off from the west at 9 mph. The forecast says it’s exceptional for expert surfers. This is a serious, serious swell. It’s a long way out, so it’s not a certainty, but if it arrives, it’s going to be a day to remember. The wave direction matches the optimum for the spot perfectly. This is the one you’d be waiting for.

So, the bottom line: the first week is a grind with some okay windows, but the second week has a monster swell on the way. The 24th of July is the big one. Keep an eye on it.

Rusty.
