Table - best surf conditions forecast for Hullets Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for us over the next couple of weeks.
Alright, so the window opens Monday the 13th, but honestly, the first few days are a write-off. Monday has a messy 6ft easterly swell with onshore winds and a choppy surface, so we’re not even getting wet. Tuesday the 14th shows a bit of hope with some cleaner conditions, but the energy’s low and the quality is only marginal. We’re basically waiting things out.
The real action starts to stir towards the end of the week. Let’s talk about Hullets Reef. This is a fairly consistent beginner-friendly reef break that’s fairly exposed to the swell and likes it from the SE.
Thursday the 16th sees a jump in size with a 10ft SW groundswell (14-second period) kicking in by morning, and light NNE cross-onshore winds won't trash it entirely. The energy is ramping up big time (3309). This is getting into expert territory at over 8ft, so leave the foam boards at home. By afternoon, the wind swings cross-offshore and the swell is still a solid 8ft (2379). Not the cleanest conditions, but the power is there.
Friday the 17th looks promising for the experienced crew. Morning has a fresh 22 mph offshore from the WSW grooming a heavy 10ft SW swell (12-second period, 3040 energy). It’ll be hollow and challenging, but clean. Afternoon sees the size drop to 8ft with cross-offshore breeze.
We hit a bit of a lull Saturday the 18th with strong onshore winds ruining the show. A bit of a wait until Sunday the 19th when a clean, smaller 5ft groundswell from the SW (14-second period) shows up with light offshore winds. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual.
Now, the real standout moves into the second week. Monday the 27th is your target. We’ve got a super clean 13ft SW groundswell (14-second period) with light offshore breezes. The combined energy is massive at 5810. This is a big, powerful swell for experts only, and at a reef break like Hullets, the long period will wrap in nicely, but it’ll be heavy. The crowds might be an issue here, so get there early. The whole session on Monday holds clean, with the afternoon dropping to 12ft (4194) and glassy conditions. Tuesday the 28th looks smaller and less clean with light cross-onshore wind, so Monday is the day.
Keep an eye on the 23rd and 24th as well – there are some big, clean swells on the horizon. The 23rd sees a 13ft SW swell (13-second period) with clean cross-offshore winds, and the 24th morning has 7ft SW swell (12-second) with light offshore breezes and excellent conditions for experienced surfers.
So, to wrap it up: the first half of the week is a bust, but we’ve got some serious grunt coming through. For the big dogs, lock in Monday the 27th at Hullets Reef. If you want something a bit more manageable, the window from the 23rd to the 24th looks excellent for experienced surfers.
Stay safe out there.
Rusty.
