Table - best surf conditions forecast for Hullets Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, Thursday the 9th is a write-off. That 12ft SSW swell sounds big, and the cross-off wind is strong at 16 mph, but the energy is massive (3853) and it’s a reef break, so it’s not totally junk. However, the water’s a bit colder than normal at 64°, a degree or so below what we’d expect. Still, the real kicker is it’s just a marginal outlook for the afternoon. We’ll skip that and wait.
Friday the 10th morning stays big, same 12ft SSW swell and cross-off wind. Still not the cleanest. But by Friday afternoon, things settle down: 10ft SSW at 13 seconds, the wind drops to a light 6 mph cross-off, and it goes clean. That’s the first proper window – excellent for experienced surfers. This is a highlight for the short term. Over 8ft, so keep the beginners on the sand.
Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th are no good. Onshore winds, choppy, and the swell drops fast. By Saturday afternoon it’s 8ft onshore junk, and Sunday sees 5-6ft with moderate cross-onshore – just poor conditions.
Monday the 13th is interesting. Morning is a small 5ft SSW swell with light cross-on wind – not great. But Monday afternoon: glassy – wind is calm, zero. That 6ft ESE swell is short period at 7 seconds, but the glassy conditions mean it could be clean little rollers at Hullets Reef. It’s a beginner-friendly reef when it’s small, so that might be a fun, uncrowded session. Energy is moderate (968).
Tuesday the 14th to Wednesday the 15th brings smaller swell, cleaning up with offshore winds. Wednesday afternoon sees 4ft from the east at 10 seconds, with offshore wind – clean, small waves. Not a standout, but a nice window for a quiet session.
Now, hang on to your board. Thursday the 16th morning: 8ft SW swell at 13 seconds, light cross-off wind. Clean, big, excellent for experienced surfers. Energy is strong (2710). That afternoon is even better: 8ft, offshore wind at 9 mph, glassy face. That’s a beauty.
Friday the 17th holds solid at 7-7ft SW, light to moderate offshore wind – clean, excellent conditions. This whole window from Thursday the 16th to Friday the 17th is the best on offer in the near term. Big, clean, long-period groundswell – this reef will love it.
Saturday the 18th gets blown out. 25 mph WSW winds, rain showers, and messy. Then Sunday the 19th – watch out. Morning shows 16ft SW swell with onshore wind, but the energy is massive (8353). By afternoon it’s 16ft SW at 14 seconds, with 16795 energy – that’s huge. Onshore wind means it’s a bumpy mess for paddling, but if you’re a tow-in crew or a big-wave nut, you’d be watching. Not recommended for anyone else.
Monday the 20th to Tuesday the 21st is windy and big, with strong cross-off or offshore winds that make paddling hard. By Tuesday morning it’s 34 mph – near gale. Forget it.
Wednesday the 22nd is still big (8ft SW, 14 seconds) but cross-on wind makes it choppy.
Then, the real long-range standout: Thursday the 23rd through Friday the 24th. Thursday morning: 10ft SW at 15 seconds – very long period groundswell. Light cross-off wind, clean, excellent for experienced surfers. Energy is 4300. That afternoon stays clean with 10ft SW. This is a proper groundswell hitting the reef – long lines, big energy, very clean. Friday the 24th morning holds at 8ft SW, still clean. Then Friday afternoon the swell drops to 4ft but the period stretches to 18 seconds – that’s a super long period, glassy offshore wind – ultra clean but small. Could be a sneaky gem for a longboard.
Overall, the standout windows are Thursday/Friday July 16-17 for clean, big, powerful surf, and the Thursday July 23 to Friday July 24 window for a promising but less certain long-range call with a solid groundswell. That’s where I’d point you.
Rusty signing off.
