Table - best surf conditions forecast for Hullets Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a proper look at what’s coming our way over the next couple of weeks for Hullets Reef.
Right off the bat, it’s not a classic start. We’ve got a solid pulse of swell arriving Friday morning, with a solid 12ft SSW groundswell packing some serious energy (4121). That’s a lot of water moving. The wind is a cross-offshore, so the surface will be clean, but this is reef we’re talking about, and at that size it's for experienced surfers only. The water temp is sitting at 65°, which is pretty much normal for this time of year. Friday afternoon stays clean and solid at 10ft, still with that long 13-second period. It’s a decent start, but you need to know what you're doing.
The weekend is a write-off. Saturday and Sunday get eaten up by onshore winds and rain, dropping from 10ft to a messy 5ft. It goes from choppy to lumpy real quick. The forecast for those days is pretty bleak.
Then we hit a bit of a lull. From Monday the 13th through Wednesday the 15th, the swell drops right off to around 3ft to 4ft. The winds do turn offshore and glassy at times, so those little E/ESE waves will be clean, but they’re weak. It’s small but rideable. Good for a beginner session or a longboard if you’re desperate.
Now, here’s the first real standout. Thursday the 16th of July sees a new SW groundswell arrive, jumping back up to 10ft (3177). The wind is cross-off in the afternoon, and this has a 13-second period. It’s big, powerful, and clean. This is the one to circle for the experienced crew.
The following weekend (18th/19th) is a mixed bag. Saturday the 18th morning is a gem – glassy conditions, wind from the SSW at only 3 mph, with a clean 5ft S swell (640). That’s a great window for the intermediate surfer looking for some clean, manageable waves on the reef. Sunday afternoon cleans back up with a 3ft SW swell.
But the absolute standout of the whole outlook is Monday the 20th of July. We’ve got a massive 12ft SW swell with a *huge* energy reading of 5843. That’s a lot of power. The morning wind is barely a breath, cross-off from the west. It says the conditions are excellent for experienced surfers, and that’s no joke. If you are a confident surfer on a reef, this is the session to aim for. It will be big, powerful, and clean. Expect a crew out there, because it’s a consistent spot.
After that, the energy stays high but the wind gets messy. Tuesday the 21st is a write-off with onshore winds. The end of the period (22nd to 25th) is dominated by strong cross-off winds and very big swell – we see a 16ft SW groundswell on the morning of Thursday the 23rd (8486!), which is expert-only territory and will be blown out by strong winds later. Saturday the 25th morning offers a final glassy moment with a 5ft S swell (918) if you want something clean and manageable to finish the run.
So, in short: the best bets for the experienced surfer are Friday the 10th afternoon and Thursday the 16th afternoon, with the absolute standout being Monday the 20th morning. For cleaner, more manageable waves, lock in Saturday the 18th morning.
Rusty.
