Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s talk about the same stretch in Imperial. The main spot is Hullets Reef, a reef break that’s consistent enough and works best for beginners. The swell window opens up early next week, but there’s a few rough days to sit out.
Sunday the 5th kicks off with waves around 5ft from the SE, but a north breeze messes it up in the morning. By the afternoon, the wind swings WSW offshore, the swell drops a touch to about 4ft from the ESE, and it cleans up nicely. The water’s 18°, a bit colder than normal. Nothing to write home about, but a fun little session.
Monday the 6th is where it gets good. Morning glass, dead calm, with a 6ft SW swell rolling in at 12 seconds. Combined energy is 1104 – that’s solid groundswell energy. The reef will be clean and inviting. Afternoon gets bumpy, so be on it early.
Tuesday the 7th holds 7ft SW swell with clean conditions in the afternoon thanks to a gentle offshore breeze. The swell’s getting a bit meaty for beginners now.
Wednesday the 8th sees the swell climb to 8ft, then 10ft by the afternoon – that’s expert-only territory. Combined energy hits 2698 (strong). Offshore winds keep it clean, but the power is real.
Friday morning, 10th of July, is the big one. A 12ft SSW swell with zero wind, glassy, 13-second period, and combined energy of 4238 (very strong). This is the session for the brave. Crowds are sometimes an issue here, but with a swell this size, only the real ones will be out.
The rest of Friday and the weekend (11th-12th) is wrecked by strong onshore winds and lumpy surf. The middle of the second week, around the 13th to 15th, goes tiny – waves around 3ft to 4ft with short periods and low energy. The wind stays favorable, but it’s small and ordinary.
Then, Thursday 16th July brings a new swell: 6ft from the SW with a very long 14-second period, combined energy 1628 (moderate). Fresh offshore wind in the morning, but the afternoon gets gusty to 40 km/h, making it hard work.
The final days, 18th to 20th July, blow up again – 13ft S swells with combined energy over 8834 (very strong), but the wind is brutal: strong cross-onshore or near gale. Messy, blown-out, and dangerous. Leave it for the kite guys.
So, your best bets: Friday 10th July morning for the experienced crew with a massive glassy swell, and Monday 6th morning for a clean, manageable session for the rest of us.
