Table - best surf conditions forecast for Hullets Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, let’s break down what’s cooking at Hullets Reef over the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got a slow start on Wednesday, July 8th. There's some solid swell pushing in at about 8ft from the SW with a long 13-second period (2025 combined energy), but that 30 km/h cross-off wind is making it "marginal." The water is 64°, which is a degree or so colder than usual – you’ll notice it. Not the session to rush for.
Thursday the 9th is where it’s at. A proper 11-12ft SW groundswell with a 14-second period (4199 combined energy) and a clean 30 km/h offshore wind from the WSW. That’s a standout for the big-wave crew. That size and period will see the reef handling some serious power – not one for beginners. If you’ve got the balls, Thursday morning is pure gold.
Friday the 10th keeps the energy going with 11-12ft from the SSW (4016 combined energy), and the wind is lighter in the morning. But the real gem is the afternoon – the swell holds around 10ft, but with a light 10 km/h breeze and glassy conditions, it’ll be clean and lined up. Excellent for experienced surfers.
Saturday the 11th sees the onshores creep in. Still 8ft of SSW swell, but it’s choppy with a cross-on breeze. Sunday the 12th is a dud with onshore winds. From Monday the 13th through the 15th, the swell drops right off, barely hitting 3-5ft – there’s a solid four-day gap of nothing worth paddling for.
A little window pops up on Thursday afternoon, July 16th, with a 7ft SW pulse (873 combined energy) and glassy conditions. That’s a sneaky treat if you can get out.
Then Friday, July 17th delivers again. Another 10ft SW groundswell with a 12-second period (2637 combined energy) and clean offshore winds all day. The afternoon with that 20 km/h offshore is going to be clean, punchy, and epic for the experienced. That’s your second standout.
The last few days into the 23rd get messy again with onshore winds or choppy conditions. There's a blink of glassy surf on the morning of the 22nd with 5-6ft SSW swell, but it’s short-lived.
The takeaway: This is a reef, so when it’s on, it’s on. The two absolute standouts are Thursday morning, July 9th and Friday afternoon, July 17th – both with that crisp offshore wind and powerful SW groundswell. The middle of the run is quiet, but it’s not a total washout. Pick your days.
Rusty, signing off.
