The Lowdown

Alright, let’s get into it. First up, we’ve got Hullets Reef – a pretty reliable little setup for the area. Water temp’s sitting about average for this time of year, so nothing too wild there.

The first real action comes on Thursday the 20th of August. Morning sees a solid 13 ft SW swell pushing in with a 14-second period. That’s a lot of energy (5803) – definitely not for the faint-hearted. The wind is cross-off at 12 mph, so it’s clean but pretty raw. Afternoon cleans up nicely with a 12 ft SW swell, 13-second period, and a glassy offshore breeze at 9 mph. That’s the kind of afternoon that makes you forget about work. This is one of the standout windows.

Friday the 21st drops off a bit. Morning has 8 ft SW swell with a 12-second period, but the wind swings cross-on at 6 mph, so it’s bumpy. Afternoon is a write-off – 19 mph cross-on wind, lumpy, just not worth it.

Saturday the 22nd is blown out. 31 mph winds in the morning, 25 mph in the afternoon. The swell drops to around 5 ft–6 ft, but the wind is just too strong. Better to stay home.

Sunday the 23rd bounces back. Morning has 8 ft SW swell with a 11-second period and a clean offshore breeze at 9 mph. This is a good session for experienced surfers. The afternoon holds at 8 ft SW with a light 6 mph cross-off wind – still clean and fun.

Monday the 24th keeps the momentum going. Morning has 6 ft SW swell with a 12-second period and offshore wind at 9 mph. Afternoon’s even better with 6 ft SW swell, 12-second period, and a moderate offshore at 12 mph. Solid, clean waves.

Tuesday the 25th is a mixed bag. Morning has 8 ft SW swell with a 13-second period, but the wind is cross-on at 6 mph, so it’s a bit messy. Afternoon packs a punch with 8 ft SW swell and a long 15-second period, but the 16 mph cross-on wind chops it up. Not ideal.

Wednesday the 26th through Thursday the 27th is mostly poor. Strong offshore winds on Thursday the 27th keep it clean but the swell drops to 5 ft with a short 11-second period. Not much push.

Friday the 28th is a no-go – onshore winds, small swell, messy.

Saturday the 29th sees a big 10 ft SW swell with a short 9-second period and near-gale winds. Afternoon has 8 ft SSW swell with a 11-second period, and the wind goes offshore at 25 mph. Super clean but hard to paddle into – that’s a strong offshore. Kite surfers might be eyeing this.

Sunday the 30th and Monday the 31st are mostly poor. Monday morning has a 13 ft SW swell with a 12-second period, but the wind is onshore and the tide conditions are questionable. Not recommended.

Tuesday the 1st of September holds 15 ft SW swell with a 12-second period, but the wind stays cross-off and fresh. Big, raw, but still clean.

Wednesday the 2nd of September is a little gem. Morning has 8 ft SW swell with an 11-second period, and the wind is nearly glassy at 3 mph. Clean, smooth, and the energy is solid (1730). That’s a nice surprise for the start of the month.

The rest of the outlook fades out with small, weak swells and onshore winds. Not much to get excited about.

So, the real standouts are: Thursday afternoon (20th August) with that clean 12 ft SW swell and offshore wind, and Sunday morning (23rd August) with a solid 8 ft SW swell and offshore breeze. Lock those in.
