Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, mate, let's break down the next few weeks for this spot. We're only looking at Hullets Reef, a reef break that's fairly consistent and picks up swell from the SE. It's a beginner-friendly spot, but when the size gets serious, it's for the experienced crew.
The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual.
There's a bit of a wait, but the first real look is on Tuesday, July 7th. The morning has a clean 2.1m swell from the SW with a 12-second period, but the wind is a stiff cross-offshore. The afternoon is the winner here – the wind goes offshore and drops to a light breeze, with the same 2.1m, 12-second SW swell. The combined energy is strong (1266). It's going to be glassy and clean.
Wednesday the 8th is a washout. The wind is howling and the surf is messy.
Thursday the 9th brings a massive jump. We're talking 3.5m of SW swell with a 14-second period in the morning. The combined energy is huge (4208). This is big, powerful, and only for experts. The wind is a fresh cross-offshore, so it's clean but heavy.
Friday the 10th is the standout of the first week. The morning session is a ripper. You've got a 3.5m swell from the SSW, a 14-second period, and the combined energy is massive (4772). The wind is a light cross-offshore, making for excellent conditions for experienced surfers. This is a long-period groundswell on a reef, so the waves will be powerful and well-shaped. The afternoon is a bit of a letdown with a cross-shore wind, but that morning is gold.
Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th are terrible. The wind is onshore and the surf is choppy and poor.
Monday the 13th has a clean 2.5m swell from the ESE in the morning, but the period is short (9 seconds), so it'll be a bit weak. The wind is onshore, making it marginal.
From Tuesday the 14th through to Wednesday the 22nd, it's a long stretch of poor to marginal surf. The wind is mostly onshore, and the swell is either small or messy. There's a gap of several days with no real recommendations.
But, there is light ahead. Saturday, July 18th has a killer afternoon session. The swell is 2.5m from the SW with a 13-second period, and the combined energy is strong (2160). The wind is glassy. For a reef, that's a dream. It's for experienced surfers only, and it's a long way out, but it's a promising one to watch.
Sunday the 19th is also solid. The afternoon has a clean 2.3m SW swell with a 12-second period, and the wind is a light cross-offshore. Another excellent session for the experienced crew.
The rest of the forecast into the 22nd is just more wind and chop or small, weak swell. Not much to get excited about.
So, the final call: The absolute best is the Friday morning, July 10th, for that big, clean, powerful groundswell. The second standout is the Saturday afternoon, July 18th, for the glassy conditions and solid swell. Both are for the experienced surfer only.
Rusty.
