The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty comin' at ya from the beach. We've got a proper 16-day window here, and let me tell you, it's a real mixed bag of a forecast. The first few days are a bit of a tease, but the real story is a massive, long-range pulse that looks like it could be something special. Let's get into it.
The week kicks off with a bit of a jumbled start. The first recommendation is for Sunday, July 19th, at Hullets Reef. The morning is looking clean enough with a 5 ft SW swell runnin' at 9 seconds, and the cross-off wind is keeping things tidy. The combined energy is moderate (803), and it's forecast to be a bit colder than normal, with the water at 64°. It's a solid, fun size for a beginner break, but nothing to write home about just yet.
Monday, July 20th, the afternoon is where we start to see a pulse. The swell bumps up to 6 ft from the SW, with a longer 11-second period, and the offshore wind is gonna be a treat. The energy is kickin' into a solid moderate range (1252). That's a nice clean session if you can get out of work early.
Now, hold on to your boards. Tuesday, July 21st, morning is the first true standout. We're looking at a groundswell of 6 ft from the SW, but the period jumps to a very long 15 seconds, and the wind is glassy. Absolutely no wind. The energy is strong (1658). This is the kind of day where you paddle out and feel like you're in a different world. The long period will make the sets a bit more spaced out, but that energy is going to wrap beautifully around the reef. The crowds are a possibility here, so get there early.
Wednesday, July 22nd, morning is another absolute gem. Glassy conditions again, with a 7 ft SW swell at 12 seconds. The energy is strong (1696). This is just about perfect for experienced surfers, but the size is getting into the "know what you're doing" territory. If you can handle it, it's a dream session.
The end of the week gets a bit wild. Thursday, July 23rd, is a write-off with strong winds and rain. Friday, July 24th, is interesting. The morning has a massive 13 ft SSW swell with a 16-second period, but the wind is on it. The energy is through the roof (7335), but it's a mess. However, Friday afternoon is a different story. The wind swings offshore, and the swell is still a solid 10 ft from the SW at 15 seconds. The energy is still massive (4431). This is for experts only. If you're not in the top tier, stay on the sand and watch the show. Saturday, July 25th, is similar, with the same size and clean conditions, but the energy is still very strong (3810).
Then we hit a major slump. Sunday, July 26th, through Wednesday, July 29th, is a complete write-off. Strong onshore winds, poor conditions. A solid 4-day gap of nothing.
But the long-range forecast is where it gets really interesting. The first week of August is looking like a different beast. Friday, August 1st, afternoon is the big one. The swell is a 15 ft from the East, with a 10-second period. The wind is glassy, and the energy is a staggering 4523. This is a serious, serious swell. The shorter period against the east direction might make it a bit more walled up at the beach, but on a reef like Hullets, it could be an absolute freight train. This is the standout of the entire outlook. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing for the average punter.
The following weekend, August 2nd and 3rd, continues with excellent conditions. Clean offshore winds, 10 ft to 5 ft East swells, all with strong to moderate energy. It's a busy end to the forecast, but it's all quality.
So, to wrap it up: The best on offer is the glassy, long-period SW groundswell on Tuesday, July 21st, and Wednesday, July 22nd. But the absolute gold medal winner is the massive, glassy East swell on Friday, August 1st, afternoon. That's one for the books.
Stay frosty, and I'll see you in the water.
