Oi, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for Point (reef and point). We’ve got a solid run of surf ahead, but you’ve gotta pick your moments.

The pattern kicks off with a big pulse of energy. Thursday July 9th sees a strong 12ft SW groundswell rolling in, with a period of 14 seconds and a massive combined energy of 4420. That’s a lot of water moving. The morning is a bit sketchy with a cross-off wind, but the afternoon cleans right up with an offshore breeze. This is expert territory – way too big for beginners. The water is sitting at 63°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so don’t forget a hood.

Friday July 10th keeps the goods coming. Still a solid 12ft to 10ft SSW swell, period around 13 seconds, and energy holding in the 4000s. The afternoon sees offshore winds again, making for clean, powerful walls. Again, this is for the experienced crew only.

Saturday July 11th is a drop-off. The swell eases to 10ft to 8ft, but the wind swings onshore and the energy drops to 2353. It gets a bit messy. Not the day to make a plan.

Sunday July 12th is a write-off. The swell drops under 7ft, the wind is onshore and choppy, and the energy is down to 961. Poor conditions.

Monday July 13th is a sneaky little gem. The swell is small at 4ft, but the morning is glassy. The combined energy is only 400, so it’s weak, but for a longboard or a funboard, that clean glassy surface is a treat. The water is still that bit colder than average.

From Tuesday July 14th through to Wednesday July 15th, the surf dries right up. Tiny waves, poor conditions, and energy down to 77. That’s a few days of flatness.

Then, Thursday July 16th sparks up again. A new 12ft SW swell arrives, with a 14-second period and energy shooting to 5353 in the afternoon. That’s a massive spike. The wind is cross-off, so it’s clean, but the size is intimidating. Experts only.

Friday July 17th and Saturday July 18th see the swell hold, but the wind is onshore and choppy. The quality is poor. The swell on Saturday is 10ft but from the ESE with a short period of 8 seconds, making it a lumpy, windswept mess.

Rest of the week into July 20th is small, weak, and mostly blown out.

Now, here’s the standout in the second week. Tuesday July 21st. The afternoon delivers a 7ft SSW swell, a long 14-second period, and offshore winds. The energy is 2029, and the conditions are described as excellent for experienced surfers. It’s not as raw as the first week’s big swells, but it’s the most balanced, clean, and powerful option. That’s the one you circle.

Wednesday July 22nd afternoon also holds a nice 8ft SSW swell with a very long 16-second period, cross-off wind, and energy of 3317. That’s a beautiful, clean groundswell. It’s more for the point break – that long period will make it lined up and barreling.

Thursday July 23rd keeps the 7ft+ SSW swell, with offshore winds in the morning. Good, but not the standout.

The last few days of the outlook fade out. Friday July 24th is small and cross-on.

For the best of the best, I’m calling Thursday July 9th afternoon for the raw power and clean offshore wind, and Tuesday July 21st afternoon for the best-balanced, classic conditions. The crowds at Point can be an issue, so get in early.

Rusty out.
