Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Wreck over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s coming for The Wreck. There’s no surf on right now, but the first decent window hits on Friday, July 10th.
That first Friday morning is a real jaw-dropper. We’re looking at a solid 10-foot swell rolling in from the SSW with a period around 13 seconds – that’s proper groundswell energy, and the combined energy reading is up there at 3550 (moderate to strong energy). This is serious stuff. The water’s sitting at 63°F, which is about average for this time of year. The wind’s light and cross-off from the west, so it’ll be clean. The rip will be pulling, and the paddle-out won’t be a picnic, but the waves will have shape and power. This swell is over 8 feet though, so experienced surfers only. The glass-off Friday afternoon is even better – glassy conditions, same solid 10-foot swell, and it’ll be a dream for those who can handle it. The Wreck is a fairly consistent spot and can get crowded sometimes, so get in early.
Saturday and Sunday the 11th and 12th are a washout. The swell backs off a touch but the wind swings cross-on, and by Sunday afternoon it’s choppy and messy. Not worth paddling out.
Monday the 13th is a reset. The swell drops to around 4 feet, period shortens to 10 seconds, but the wind goes light offshore from the WSW in the morning. Combined energy is 501 (weak). It’s clean, small, and fun for the intermediates. Monday afternoon goes glassy with a tiny 4-foot ESE swell (period 8 seconds), so break out the grovel board. Tuesday and Wednesday the 14th and 15th are small and glassy but ordinary – surfable if you’re desperate, but nothing to get excited about. Combined energy drops to as low as 242 (weak).
Then, on Thursday, July 16th, the ocean wakes up again. Thursday morning we’re looking at 10-foot SW swell, period 14 seconds, combined energy 2819 (moderate to strong). The wind is glassy. This is a standout session – big, clean, powerful, and again, experts only. The wind picks up to a light offshore from the west on Thursday afternoon, still solid at 8 feet. Friday the 17th holds that quality with moderate offshore winds and 8-foot SW groundswell – very clean.
Saturday the 18th spoils it a bit as the wind goes cross-on in the afternoon, but Sunday the 19th brings light glassy conditions and a 4-foot SW groundswell. A good, peaceful morning session.
Now, the real highlight of the whole forecast lands on Monday, July 20th. Monday morning is absolute magic: 10-foot SW swell with an 11-second period and glassy conditions. Combined energy is 2249 (moderate to strong). This is a big, clean swell for the experienced crew. The wind stays light, and it will be a memorable session. That evening, the wind picks up cross-on, so morning is the call.
Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd stay clean and fun, with 7-foot and 7-foot SSW swells and offshore winds. Quality looks good.
But then, on Thursday, July 23rd, we get the biggest pulse of the entire outlook. Thursday morning: nearly 15-foot SSW swell, period 13 seconds, combined energy 6484 – that’s strong to very strong energy. The wind is light offshore from the WSW. This is a massive, dangerous groundswell – absolute big-wave territory. Only for the most experienced. Thursday afternoon is still at 13 feet with light offshore wind. Friday the 24th keeps the 10-foot-plus range with offshore winds. Saturday the 25th fades a little, and the wind turns cross-on, so the quality drops.
The bottom line? The two standout sessions are Friday, July 10th morning (clean, powerful SSW groundswell) and Monday, July 20th morning (glassy, solid SW swell). Thursday the 23rd is for the big-wave hellmen only.
Keep your eyes on the forecast – it looks like we get a solid run of surf, but you have to pick your windows. The Wreck is on.
Rusty.
