Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Righto, grab a coffee and settle in. Let’s talk about Koeel Bay. We’re looking at a pretty mixed bag over the next couple of weeks, so don’t get your hopes up for a long run of perfection. The water here is sitting at 59°, which is about a degree and a half cooler than normal for this time of year – so you’ll want a decent spring suit.
We kick off this Saturday, July 4th, and honestly, it’s a write-off. Small, weak swell around 2ft to 2ft, cross-onshore wind, and the wave energy is weak (185). It’s choppy and messy. Sunday is more of the same, so save your petrol. Monday the 6th finally shows some life. The wind drops to dead glass in the morning, and we get a clean 4ft SW groundswell with a period of 11 seconds. The energy is moderate (417). It’s not huge, but with glassy conditions, it’ll be fun and clean for an intermediate.
Tuesday the 7th is a bit of a letdown again – light cross-onshore breeze messing with the 4ft to 5ft swell. The energy is climbing (526 to 639), but the wind just isn’t cooperating.
Now, Wednesday the 8th is where it gets interesting. Morning sees a solid 4ft SW groundswell, but the period jumps to a very long 17 seconds. The energy is strong (1337). And the wind? Pure offshore from the ESE at 16 mph. That’s clean, lined-up surf. The swell is a bit small for the period, but the quality for experienced surfers will be excellent. Thursday the 9th keeps the good vibes going with a 6ft SSW swell, 14-second period, and offshore wind again. Energy is very strong (2302) – that’s a proper push. The morning window on Thursday is the real standout of the whole forecast: clean, powerful, and organised.
Friday the 10th is still very good with offshore wind and a solid 5ft SSW swell. The energy dips a bit (1032) but it’s still strong. The weekend of the 11th and 12th is smaller, dropping from 4ft to 2ft, but the wind goes glassy again. Nice for a longboard or a fun board, but nothing to write home about.
Then we hit a long dry spell. From Monday the 13th right through to the end of the period, the wind turns nasty – cross-onshore or onshore, and the swell either drops out or gets too big and messy. By Wednesday the 15th, the swell jumps to 6ft but it’s short-period, windblown junk. Thursday the 16th sees a raw 10ft SSE swell with onshore wind – that’s expert only, and even then it’ll be a battle. Friday the 17th cleans up a bit with a cross-offshore wind, but the swell is still 7ft to 6ft and the wind is howling by the afternoon. It’s a messy, onshore end to the run.
So, here it is: if you’re hunting, lock in Thursday morning the 9th of July. That’s the best of the best – strong, clean, and powerful. Wednesday the 8th morning is a very close second. After that, it’s a gamble until things go quiet again.
Rusty.
