The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this forecast is a tough one to write. We're looking at a long, frustrating stretch with Left Point, and to be honest, there's no real standout session in the bunch. The whole 16-day window is plagued by wind issues.

Let's start with the big picture. The swell is going to be on the menu, especially from Wednesday the 22nd onwards. The combined energy climbs from moderate (371) up to absolutely pumping (9422) by Friday the 24th. But here's the rub: the wind is almost always a problem. We're looking at a solid week of strong cross-off, cross, and cross-on winds that are going to wreck the surface. It's a classic case of plenty of water moving but no one wanting to paddle out into it.

Looking at the first real chance of surf, Sunday morning the 19th, we get a 4 ft SW swell with a period of 13 seconds. The water temp is 56°, which is about average for this time of year. But the wind is a light onshore breeze from the N at 9 mph, and the report says "poor surf conditions." That about sums it up. The afternoon improves slightly with a 3 ft swell, but it's still onshore.

Monday the 20th sees a bigger, longer-period swell (3 ft at 16 seconds) but the wind picks up hard from the NNW at 18 mph, making it lumpy and cross-onshore. Tuesday the 21st is a write-off with 5 ft of swell but a messy cross-onshore wind.

Then we get to the heavy stuff. Wednesday the 22nd afternoon brings a 7 ft WSW swell, but a 25 mph W wind makes it a cross-off mess. By Thursday the 23rd, we're looking at a massive 12 ft SW groundswell with a 13-second period. The combined energy is a huge 4595! But the wind is a near gale (31-34 mph) from the WSW. That's not surfable, that's survival. Given the size and the wind, this is expert-only territory, and honestly, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.

This pattern continues. Friday the 24th has a 13 ft SW swell (9422 energy!) with a 31 mph WNW cross-shore wind. Again, huge, but blown out. The swell drops a bit over the weekend, but the wind stays strong. By Sunday the 26th, the wind is a strong onshore again, making a mess of the 8 ft swell.

The second week is more of the same. There's consistent swell, but the wind never really lets up. We see a few cleaner moments, like Monday the 27th morning with a 6 ft SW swell and a 34 mph cross-off wind, but that's still a gale. The very end of the period, Sunday the 2nd of August, shows a 5 ft SW swell with a 17-second period and a clean cross-off wind, but the wind is still a strong 28 mph. It's just relentless.

So, the honest truth? There's no day in this whole 16-day window that I'd call good. The best you could hope for is a protected spot or a very sheltered nook on a day with a more manageable wind, but based on what's here, Left Point itself is a no-go. The forecast can change, but right now, I'd save your energy.
