Table - best surf conditions forecast for Left Point over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for Left Point.
Right out of the gate, we’ve got a bit of a wait on our hands. The first few days are a mixed bag of onshore winds and messy conditions, so don’t bother paddling out until we get to the back half of the first week. The real standout, the one you want to circle on the calendar, is Friday afternoon, July 17th. That’s when it all comes together. We’ve got a clean 6ft SW groundswell rolling in with a very long 16-second period, and the wind goes glassy, S at 3 mph. The wave energy is strong at 1406, and the conditions are calling for excellent surf for experienced surfers. That’s the session.
The water at Left Point is sitting at 57°, which is about normal for the time of year, so no surprises there.
Before that, Thursday morning July 9th is a bit of a tease – 5ft SW swell with a 16-second period, but the wind is onshore early. The afternoon cleans up nicely with a glassy E breeze at 3 mph and 4ft of swell, but the energy is a bit lower at 986. It’s rideable, but not the top pick.
The weekend of the 12th and 13th gets ugly. Sunday morning has a massive 10ft to 13ft WSW swell, but the wind is howling near gale force from the NW, making it a total washout. The wave energy is through the roof – 5989 on Sunday afternoon – but with 25 mph cross-offshore winds, it’s just too big and wild for Left Point. That’s expert-only territory, and even then, it’s messy.
The following week, Tuesday July 14th, has a similar story. Big 12ft SW groundswell with a 16-second period, and the wind is cross-offshore, but the forecast says it’s too big for this break. The energy is crazy high at 8842, but it’s not for the average surfer.
Looking further out, the second week gets quieter. Thursday July 17th afternoon is the clear winner, as I said. The rest of that week and into the next sees smaller swells, around 4ft to 6ft, with inconsistent winds. Monday July 21st afternoon might be worth a look with a 5ft SW swell, light WSW cross-offshore breeze, and a clean report. But the energy is lower at 878.
After that, it fades out. The last few days of the forecast window, around July 22nd to 24th, have small, weak swells and strong onshore or offshore winds that make it hard to paddle into or just plain choppy. Not worth the effort.
So, to sum it up: the best bet is Friday afternoon, July 17th at Left Point – glassy, solid groundswell, and clean. Don’t waste your energy on the big, windy days. That’s the call.
Rusty.
