Table - best surf conditions forecast for Left Point over the next 16 days.
Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Left Point. The next 16 days are a bit of a rollercoaster, so pay attention, because there are some absolute gems hiding in there if you’re willing to wait.
The first decent surf doesn’t arrive until Thursday afternoon, July 9th. We’re looking at a 4 ft SW swell, but it’s only a small window of opportunity. The wind is light cross-shore from the ESE, so it’ll be a bit rippled, but it’s surfable. The water temp is sitting at 57°, which is about average for this time of year, so nothing wild there.
Friday the 10th sees a bit more size, with 5 ft to 5 ft SW swell, but the wind is onshore and messy, so it’s not great. Saturday and Sunday the 11th and 12th are a write-off with strong, messy winds. Sunday afternoon actually has a big 12 ft WSW swell, but the wind is howling at 25 mph, so it’s blown out for a paddle. Honestly, that setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Now, here’s the first real standout. On Tuesday, July 14th, we’ve got a solid 12 ft SW groundswell rolling in with a very long 16 second period. The combined energy is absolutely pumping (10643). The wind is offshore from the SW, so it’s going to be clean. But listen, at 12 ft, this is for experts only. The swell is too big for beginners. It’s a long-period swell, so it’ll be wrapping nicely around the point, but expect long lulls between sets.
Wednesday, July 15th, is another good one. The swell drops to 10 ft in the morning, still SW and 15 seconds, with a light cross-offshore breeze. It’s clean and powerful. For the afternoon, it’s 8 ft with a gentle offshore wind, which is excellent for experienced surfers. The energy is still strong (2755).
The surf drops off after that, with a few days of marginal, onshore slop. Then, mark your calendar for the big one. On Thursday, July 23rd, we’ve got a 7 ft to 8 ft SW groundswell with a very long 17 to 18 second period. The wind is glassy, dead calm. The combined energy is massive (3395 and 3492). This is the best on offer—clean, powerful, and lined up. It’s still a solid size, so it’s best for confident surfers, but the conditions will be absolutely perfect.
Friday, July 24th, the swell jumps to 12 ft, but the period drops to 10 seconds, so it’s a bit crumbly. The wind is glassy, but again, that’s a big wave for this spot.
To sum it up: local crew will be eyeing July 14th and 15th if they’re brave, and July 23rd if they want the cleanest, most perfect conditions of the whole run. The weeks in between are mostly a write-off with strong onshore winds.
