Alright, let’s get into it. This is a 16-day look at Left Point, and the first real window is this Sunday morning. The swell is already cranking at 10ft from the SW with a period of 17 seconds – that’s proper groundswell, very long period, stacks of energy (6604). But the wind is cross-shore from the ESE at 15 mph, and it’s a bit messy with the cross-chop. Sunday afternoon sees the wind pick up to 22 mph, still cross, making it even lumpier. That first day is not the one for clean waves; it’s big, but it’s a battle.
Hold for Monday afternoon. The swell has backed off a bit to 4ft from the SW, but the period is still a meaty 14 seconds, and here’s the magic: the wind goes glassy. Dead calm. Light air, no wind, just clean lines. The combined energy is moderate at 726, but that glassy surface will make every wave count. This is a real standout for the week – a mellow, clean session in the afternoon.
Tuesday afternoon builds on that. Swell bumps to 5ft from the SW, period 16 seconds, and we get offshore wind from the south at just 3 mph. The energy is strong (1146) and it’s clean. Another excellent window for those long walls.
Wednesday morning stays clean-ish but picks up cross-onshore wind from the ENE. The swell is 5ft at an 18-second period – very long period again – and the energy jumps to 2360. That’s solid. But the wind is not perfect. Wednesday afternoon: the swell hits 7ft, still 18 seconds, with light cross-shore wind from the ESE. It’s a bit bigger and still manageable, but the energy is getting serious (2951). For experienced surfers, it’s on.
By Thursday and Friday, the swell drops a bit, but conditions are still passable. Friday afternoon is another glassy moment with 5ft at 16 seconds – clean and fun.
Then there’s a gap of poor conditions from Saturday the 11th through to Monday the 13th. Onshore winds, dropping swell, rain – not worth paddling out.
The real action fires up again on Tuesday the 14th. We get cross-offshore wind from the SSE at 9 mph, swell 5ft at 15 seconds, moderate energy (1089), and it’s clean. That’s a solid session.
Wednesday the 15th morning is a standout for experienced surfers. Swell is 5ft, period 17 seconds, moderate offshore wind from the south at 16 mph, and the energy is strong (1679). Conditions described as excellent – that’s the one to circle.
Thursday the 16th afternoon gets big again: 8ft at 14 seconds, strong offshore wind (25 mph from the SW), energy roaring at 4490. But that’s a hard paddle, even with the clean face. Only for the crew with the big wave guns.
The last week sees a drop off again, with a few small clean windows but nothing that matches the quality of the first two weeks.
Best on offer: Monday 6th July afternoon when it’s glassy and 4ft – that’s a dreamy session for anyone. And Wednesday 15th July morning for the more experienced when it’s 5ft, clean, and lined up.
Left Point is a point break, so that long period SW groundswell will wrap in beautifully. It is inconsistent though, so don’t expect endless sets – but when they come, they’ll be quality. Water temp is 58°, about normal for the time of year. Crowds can be a factor here – sometimes busy, so get out early or late. It’s fairly exposed to the swell.
