Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let's get into it. The first solid window of surf at Left Point kicks off Tuesday, July 7th. It’s a point break setup, best with a WSW swell, and it’s inconsistent, so you’ll need some patience.
Tuesday morning the 7th is a bit marginal with a 3ft SW swell and light onshore breeze, but by Tuesday afternoon, things clean up. The wind swings to a light cross-off from the SSE, and the swell bumps to 5ft from the SW with a very long 16-second period. The combined energy is moderate at (1146), so there’s some grunt, but it’s not a beast. The water sits at 57°, which is about average for this time of year. This is a good session for intermediates, and expect it to get busy – crowds are a regular thing here.
Wednesday, July 8th is the standout. Wednesday morning is a little cross-on, but Wednesday afternoon is excellent for experienced surfers. You’ve got 7ft of SW swell with an 18-second period, giving it that long, groundswell feel. The combined energy is strong at (2954). Light cross-off wind from the SSE will keep it clean. This is the best on offer – a proper point break wave, long lines, and a lot of power. It’ll hold that energy well being a point.
Thursday, July 9th, the morning is a write-off with onshore wind, but Thursday afternoon turns glassy. The wind dies to nothing from the ESE, the swell drops to 4ft, and the period shortens to 15 seconds. Energy is moderate (935). It’ll be a fun, clean wave but a lot smaller than Wednesday.
Then we hit a rough patch. From Friday, July 10th through to the morning of Monday, July 13th, the wind is mostly onshore or strong, with Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th looking particularly nasty – 25-28 mph NNW winds, messy and choppy. Surf quality tanks. Monday, July 13th actually has a massive 13ft SW swell with 15 seconds and huge energy (11203), but the commentary says it’s too big for this break. So unless you’re a madman on a big wave gun, give that a miss. Tuesday, July 14th stays big and a bit wind-affected.
The next real highlight comes on Thursday, July 16th. Thursday afternoon sees 6ft of SW swell, 15-second period, and a clean offshore wind from the SSW. Combined energy is moderate (1808). It’s excellent for experienced surfers. That’s the second standout.
After that, we get a lot of cross-on wind and messy conditions from the 17th through the 22nd. There are days with clean wind but big, unruly swell – like the 22nd, with 10-12ft and strong energy in the thousands, but the wind is howling and lumpy. Not worth the paddle.
The bottom line: if you can get out Wednesday afternoon the 8th, that’s your pick. Second best is Thursday afternoon the 16th. The rest of the 16 days is mostly a battle with wind or size.
