The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty, and I've got the long-range outlook for Left Point dialed in.
First off, the water's sitting at about 56°F, which is pretty much spot on for this time of year – feels about average, so no surprises there.
The next couple of days are a bit of a write-off, to be honest. We've got a bit of a wait on our hands. The first real glimmer of hope comes on the morning of Saturday the 19th of July? Nah, scratch that, that's still messy. The good stuff is holding off.
But hold onto your boards, because things start to shift around Wednesday the 23rd of July. The wind will be howling out of the WSW, but it's cross-offshore, so the faces will be clean. The problem is the size. We're looking at a solid 10ft of SW groundswell with a long 14-second period. The combined energy is absolutely pumping at 5364, which is serious. This is big, powerful, expert-only territory. The swell is a long-period groundswell, and with that size, it's going to be pretty meaty.
For the rest of that week and into the weekend, the wind stays messy and cross-shore. It's not until Monday the 28th of July that we get a real standout. The morning is a write-off with light rain and a cross-off wind, but the afternoon is where it's at. We get a clean, moderate offshore breeze from the SW with about 7ft of swell at a 13-second period, giving us a combined energy reading of 2079. The conditions are clean and powerful. This is the one to circle.
Then, looking further out, Thursday the 31st of July afternoon is another cracker. The swell drops to around 4ft, but the period hits 18 seconds – that's a very long period groundswell that will wrap in nicely around the point. The combined energy is still hefty at 2066, and with a clean cross-off SSE breeze, it's going to be glassy and reeling. This is a day for the experienced crew to really enjoy themselves.
After that, the forecast gets a little hazy, but Saturday the 2nd of August is looking promising. The afternoon session could be all-time with about 7ft of SW swell, a 16-second period, and glassy conditions. Definitely a long-range one to keep an eye on.
This is an inconsistent spot, so you have to pick your moment. The real window for quality, clean surf is late on the 28th and the afternoon of the 31st of July. Get on it.
Rusty.
