Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's talk about Left Point. This is a pretty inconsistent point break – it doesn't fire often, so when it does you gotta pay attention. Over the next couple weeks, we've got a few tidy windows mixed in with plenty of wind and swell nonsense. Water temp is sitting around 57°F, pretty normal for this time of year.
We start Monday July 6. Morning's a bit of a dud – onshore breeze and only marginal conditions. But Monday afternoon shapes up nicely: a clean 4ft SW swell with a 14-second period, cross-off breeze from the SW at 3 mph. Wave energy is moderate at 726 – good for a fun session if you can get out there.
Tuesday July 7 brings a similar story. Morning looks iffy with onshore wind, but Tuesday afternoon sees a 5ft SW swell, 16-second period, cross-off from the SSE at 6 mph. Swell energy bumps up to 1146 – that's got some push. Clean conditions again.
Now the real standout – Wednesday July 8 afternoon. This is the pick of the forecast. Swell jumps to 7ft from the SW, period a solid 18 seconds, and combined energy is a beefy 2954. Wind is light SSE at 6 mph, cross-off, and conditions are described as clean. This is excellent surf for experienced surfers – a bit much for beginners over about 5ft. The long period means nice lines, but at a point break like this it should wrap in perfectly. Expect some crowd too – it's a spot that gets busy on the good days, and this is a good day.
Thursday July 9 and Friday July 10 are less exciting – onshore winds, lumpy conditions, nothing to make a detour for. Saturday July 11 is a write-off with strong northerly winds – forget it.
Sunday July 12 stays messy with strong cross-onshore and a risk of thunderstorms.
Then we get a big pulse around Monday July 13. Swell hits 8ft and 10ft from the SW, energy goes through the roof (3136 then 5291) – but winds are howling WSW at 37 and 28 mph. That's near gale force, and while it's cross-off, it'll be nearly impossible to paddle into. For experts only, and even then it's marginal. Tuesday July 14 is similar but dropping – still big and windy.
Wednesday July 15 has a strong cross-shore and messy conditions, not worth it unless you're chasing a beating.
From Thursday July 16 onward it settles a bit. Thursday afternoon has a clean 6ft SW swell with cross-off wind, but the energy is moderate and the wind is a bit stronger. Still sessionable. Friday July 17 and Saturday July 18 are smaller and clean but only marginal – nothing to get excited about.
Sunday July 19 sees a 6ft SW swell but morning onshore and afternoon cross-onshore chop. Not great.
Monday July 20 and Tuesday July 21 are blown out again with strong winds and messy surf.
So bottom line: Wednesday July 8 afternoon is the standout – that's your best chance for a quality session at Left Point. Tuesday July 7 afternoon is a solid backup. Everything else is either too small, too windy, or too messy. For a point that doesn't break all the time, these couple days are worth circling on the calendar.
Rusty.
