Table - best surf conditions forecast for Left Point over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break this down in feet and miles per hour.
We’re looking at a long-range forecast for Left Point, and it’s a real mixed bag of huge potential and frustrating wind. The water here is about normal for the season.
The first chance to surf is Friday, July 10th. There’s a solid 5ft groundswell from the SW with a 15-second period, and the wave energy is pumping at 1100 (moderate). The morning has a light 9 mph north wind, but the afternoon is the real winner with almost no wind and glassy conditions. This is the near-term call to make. It’s a point break, so that long period will wrap in well. Keep in mind, crowds are possible here.
Saturday the 11th is a total mess. The wind hits 22-28 mph from the north, blowing it all out. Sunday the 12th brings a bigger 10ft swell from the WSW, but a 34 mph NW wind is turning it into a washing machine. This is way too big and blown out, honestly, it’s more of a kite day than a paddle day.
Monday the 13th is even worse. We’re looking at a massive 12ft SW swell with a 15-16 second period, giving us a 5644 (very strong) energy reading, but it’s got a 31 mph cross-onshore wind. No chance.
Now, Tuesday the 14th is the big one, but it’s a serious situation. The swell is 13ft from the WSW with a 16-second period, and the energy is through the roof at 13998 (very strong). The wind is clean and cross-offshore, and the forecast says the wind and tide are favorable. But this is a genuine giant, and it’s predicted to be too big for this break. This is for absolute experts only. It’s a raw, powerful, dangerous day.
The rest of the week into the next is a downer. Wednesday the 15th through Sunday the 19th is a drag of dropping swell and persistent cross-shore or onshore winds. The swell drops from 8ft down to 3ft, but the wind is never right. Thursday the 16th afternoon has a clean offshore breeze on a 6ft SW swell, but it’s just a fleeting moment.
After that, it’s a long, flat spell. From Monday the 20th all the way through Saturday the 25th, we’ve got tiny, weak surf with shifty winds. The swell barely gets to 5ft, and even then it’s blown out. There’s a small window of clean wind on the 21st, but the swell is only 2ft, so it’s not worth the drive.
So, to sum it up: Friday the 10th afternoon is your clean, fun wave. Tuesday the 14th is a massive, dangerous, clean swell for the brave. The rest is a bit of a write-off.
Rusty.
