Right, let's have a look at this one. Things are sizing up for a run at Left Point over the next couple weeks. Now, I won't sugar-coat it—the week starts off a bit rough, but there are some standout windows of clean surf if you pick your moments. The overall pattern is a slow build into some serious size towards the end of the second week, but wind is the big player here.
We kick off on Saturday the 4th. It’s blowing a fresh southwesterly at 22 mph, which is cross-offshore, but the swell is a solid 9.8 ft from the SW with a 13-second period. The combined energy is strong, reading 2740. It’s a bit raw and there’s a marginal vibe, but if you’re an experienced surfer, those afternoon sessions with the wind easing to 18.6 mph and going fully offshore will be clean. Still, it’s big, so only for the confident crew.
Sunday the 5th is a write-off, honestly. That swell hangs in there—9.8 ft in the morning from the SW with a 17-second period (very long period groundswell, good for points like this) and combined energy jumping to a huge 6413. But the wind swings around to the ESE at 15.5 mph, cross-shore, creating a lumpy cross-chop. It’s messy. Not our day.
The real gem of this whole outlook arrives on Monday the 6th. That morning is a bit meh with a 5.2 ft swell and a light onshore, but stick around for the afternoon. The swell drops to a clean 4.3 ft from the SW, period at 14 seconds, and combined energy sitting at a moderate 726. Most importantly, the wind goes south-easterly at just 3.1 mph, making it cross-offshore and glassy. This is where it gets good. For an intermediate surfer, Left Point is going to be your spot. The conditions will be clean, and while the crowds can be around at times, it’ll be worth it.
Tuesday the 7th offers another solid session. The afternoon sees a 4.9 ft SW swell, 16-second period, and a gentle 6.2 mph southerly that’s fully offshore. That’s clean, glassy lines coming down the point. Combined energy is 1160—moderate but punchy. It’s a classic point break window.
We get a bit of a lift into Wednesday the 8th. The swell starts pushing 6.9 ft in the afternoon from the SW, period stretching to 18 seconds. Combined energy hits 2954. The wind is light from the ESE, making it a cross-shore breeze. It’s still surfable and good, but that light cross-shore creates small wind ripples, so it’s not as pristine as Tuesday or Monday.
Thursday the 9th afternoon is absolute glass. The swell is 4.6 ft from the SW, 15-second period, and the wind drops to nothing—glass, at 3.1 mph from the NE. Combined energy is 1014. This is a treat. For a Thursday arvo sesh, it’ll be worth the wait after a choppy morning.
Friday the 10th afternoon repeats that glassy magic. Another 4.6 ft, 14-second period, with a 3.1 mph breeze from the NE. Clean as a whistle. Combined energy is 763.
Now we hit a rough patch. From Saturday the 11th right through to Monday the 13th, it turns ugly. Winds are strong and onshore or cross-onshore, with some storms and rain showers. Swell jumps to 14.8 ft on Monday the 13th with a massive combined energy of 10098, but it’s messy, cross-shore, and blown out. Not for us.
But then... Tuesday the 14th. This is the standout of the entire run. Morning has a 9.8 ft SW swell, 16-second period, with a strong 24.9 mph SSW wind that is fully offshore. The combined energy is a very strong 8147. It’s big, it’s raw, and it’s offshore. This is expert territory. It’ll be clean but hard to paddle into. The afternoon stays clean with 21.7 mph cross-offshore wind and similar swell.
Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th are your sweet spot for experienced intermediates. From Wednesday morning, we get a 6.2 ft SW swell, 15-second period, with a gentle 9.3 mph SSW wind that’s offshore. Combined energy is 1914. The description calls it excellent conditions for experienced surfers, and I agree. Thursday the 16th is even better—both morning and afternoon show a 6.2 ft to 5.9 ft swell with gentle offshore southerlies at 9.3 mph. Combined energy is 1726 and 1450, period is 15 seconds. That’s top-tier clean surf at Left Point.
After that, the last few days—Friday the 17th to Sunday the 19th—taper off. Swell drops below 4.9 ft, winds are light but mostly onshore or cross-onshore. The last good glassy afternoon is on Saturday the
