The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s talk about the next couple of weeks at Left Point. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, to be honest—there’s some decent swell on the horizon, but we’re going to have to pick our moments with the wind and the tides. It’s not going to be a non-stop run of perfection, but there are a couple of windows that will have you grinning ear to ear.
We kick things off this Saturday the 22nd. The morning is a write-off—that southwest swell is pushing 7ft but the west wind is howling at 22 mph, making it a messy, cross-off mess. The energy is strong (3277), but it’s not worth your time. The afternoon cleans up a touch with the wind backing off to 19 mph, but it’s still bumpy and the swell jumps to 10ft. That’s pushing into expert-only territory, and with the conditions, it’s just not firing right.
Sunday the 23rd is where you start to see a glimmer. The morning is still a bit onshore and choppy, with 7ft of SW swell. But the afternoon turns it on. The wind drops to a glassy 3 mph, the swell settles to 6ft, and the 13-second period gives it some push. This is your first proper window—clean, lined-up lefts. It won’t be massive, but it’ll be fun.
Monday the 24th is a flat-out dud. The wind swings onshore and the swell drops to a weak 5ft, with barely any energy (879). Just don't bother paddling out; the surf will be lumpy and unrideable.
We’ve got a few more days of marginal conditions from the 25th through the 27th. The swell stays in that 3-6ft range, with wind and rain messing things up. There’s a moment on the 27th (Thursday) afternoon, though—the wind goes glassy again, the swell is 4ft but with a 14-second period, so it’s clean and has some push for the size. Worth a sneaky session if you're keen, but don’t expect anything epic.
Then, here’s the first real standout. It’s a bit further out, so mark your calendar. On Sunday the 30th, the wind goes offshore from the south, and that swell from the southwest kicks up to 10ft by the afternoon with an 18-second period. The energy is massive (5703). This is a proper groundswell, and Left Point, being a point break, will handle it beautifully— long, clean, powerful walls. This is the one for the experienced crew. Expect it to be busy though.
And the run continues into Monday the 31st. Morning is totally glassy with 7ft of SW swell and a 16-second period. The energy is still up at 2475. The afternoon stays clean with a light offshore wind. Another excellent day of surf. This is your second standout window.
After that, we go into a bit of a lull. Tuesday the 1st has size—8ft to 8ft—but the wind is either howling cross-shore or blowing a strong 25 mph offshore, which will make it tough to get into. Wednesday the 2nd drops right off. The 3rd and 4th see a mix, but the 4th (Friday) afternoon looks decent again: an 8ft SW swell with a 15-second period and a light offshore wind. Clean and powerful, but not as good as the 30th and 31st.
The second week, from the 5th onward, is less certain. There’s a glimmer on the 5th (Saturday) afternoon with a glassy 5ft SW swell, but it’s nowhere near the quality of the earlier standouts. After that, the signals get mixed, so I wouldn’t be planning any road trips around it.
So, in short: this Sunday afternoon the 23rd is your tune-up, but the real deal is Sunday the 30th and Monday the 31st. Big, clean, powerful southwest swell—that’s as good as it gets in this window. Be there.
Rusty.
