G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Left Point.
The next week and a half is a bit of a mixed bag. There’s some serious size on the way, but you’ve gotta pick your windows carefully—the wind’s gonna be a factor a fair bit of the time. The standout window is a good one though.
Right from Friday morning the 3rd of July, it’s already big—4.5m from the WSW with a super long 16-second period, and combined swell energy is a massive 10096. But mate, with a 50 km/h westerly screaming across it, it’s a write-off. That wind is cross-off but way too strong. Same story Friday afternoon—still 4.5m, now from the SW, energy still huge at 8941, but still hammered by 50 km/h winds. Not surfable.
It drops a bit Saturday the 4th: 3.0m from the SW in the morning, period down to 13 seconds, energy at 2614. The wind is still a fresh 30 km/h cross-off, so it’s clean but the swell’s still big and the conditions are marginal. Saturday afternoon looks better—2.5m SW, same period, 30 km/h offshore from the SW, energy at 2180. Clean lines but still a lot of water moving around.
Sunday the 5th has solid size again—3.0m from the SW with a 17-second period in the morning, energy jumping to 6172, but it’s a cross-shore from the ESE at 25 km/h, so the surface is messy. Sunday afternoon stays 2.5m SW with the same long period, energy 4567, but the wind freshens to 35 km/h from the ESE, making it lumpy. Not the day.
Monday the 6th drops off—1.6m SW, 14-second period, energy 1006 in the morning but onshore from the north at 10 km/h. That’s not good. Afternoon goes to 1.3m, 14 seconds, energy 726, and it’s nearly glassy with just a 5 km/h ESE cross-shore. Clean but tiny.
Tuesday the 7th is small and choppy—0.8m to 1.3m with moderate cross-onshore winds. Not worth suiting up.
Now, here’s the standout. Wednesday the 8th of July: morning has 1.6m from the SW, 18-second period, energy 2486, and a moderate offshore from the SSW at 20 km/h—clean and lined up. Afternoon bumps to 2.1m, same direction and period, energy 2951, still with that 20 km/h offshore. This is excellent for experienced surfers. That combination of solid groundswell and clean offshore wind is the best on offer. The crowds at Left Point (Left-Point) are “sometimes” around, so expect a few others with the same idea.
Thursday the 9th holds up well—morning 1.8m SW, 15-second period, energy 1493 with a gentle offshore from the south—smooth. Afternoon drops to 1.6m, 14-second period, energy 1151, light cross-off breeze from the SSE. Still very good.
Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th go flat or onshore—1.6m but with northerly winds onshore and choppy. Sunday the 12th gets messy too, with 1–2.1m and cross-onshore winds.
Monday the 13th has size again—2.5m from the SW in the morning with a 16-second period, energy 3504, and strong offshore wind from the south at 40 km/h. That is clean but very powerful and hard to paddle into—only for the strong. Afternoon eases to 2.1m with fresh offshore wind, still clean.
Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th keep 2–3.0m SW swells with fresh cross-off breezes and energy in the 3000–4300 range. Clean but challenging.
Then on Thursday the 16th we get a glassy morning—1.8m SW, 14-second period, energy 2228, and zero wind. That’s beautiful. The afternoon gets interesting: 3.5m from the SSE but with a short 8-second period, and a gentle offshore from the SSW. That’s very big and short-period—likely too much for the point and better for experts if it wraps in.
After that, it drops away Friday the 17th to 1.1m, with a glassy calm afternoon—clean but ankle-biters. Saturday the 18th is back onshore and lumpy.
Bottom line: Wednesday July 8th and Thursday July 9th are your best bets—consistent, clean offshore wind, long-period SW groundswell in the 2–2.1m range. Thursday the 16th morning could be a hidden gem if you want glassy conditions on smaller swell. The big days in the second week are promising but less certain—keep an eye on the wind.
Rusty.
