Table - best surf conditions forecast for Left Point over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. We’ve got a bit of a mixed bag on our hands for the next couple of weeks. The short term is a write-off, but the back half of the outlook has a couple of sessions that look worth circling on the calendar.
The first real action worth paddling out for is a long way off, so brace for a solid gap of nothing good. The first 10 days are essentially a no-go. We’ve got some serious wind and swell combos that are just plain ugly. It’s going to feel like a long wait.
The best bet overall lands on Wednesday, July 24th afternoon at Left Point. After all that chaos, we finally get a little relief. The swell is still a solid 7 ft from the SW, running with a nice long period of 16 seconds (groundswell). That longer period will really help shape things up, especially on a point break like this one. The wind swings around to a light cross-offshore breeze, keeping the surface glassy and clean. It’s going to be a powerful swell, though – the energy reading is hefty, but for experienced surfers this one will be a standout. Keep in mind, with that long-period SW swell, it might be a bit straight for some setups, but this point should handle it well.
Just a couple of days after that, on Saturday, July 26th afternoon, there’s another little window worth a mention. The swell drops back a touch to 5 ft from the SW with a 14-second interval, and the wind goes completely glassy – dead calm. That’s a rare treat. The energy is moderate, but for an afternoon session with clean conditions, it’s hard to beat. Don’t expect massive power, but expect fun, rideable lines.
The water temp is sitting at 57°F, which is pretty much normal for this time of year, so no nasty surprises there.
A quick heads up: while Tuesday, July 14th looks clean with the right wind, the swell is predicted to be over 12 ft with extreme energy. That’s expert territory only if you’ve got the nerve and the skills. For the rest of us, it’s a day for the couch.
So to sum it up: the first week and a half is a write-off. Don’t even bother. Wait it out for that Wednesday afternoon on the 24th or that glassy Saturday on the 26th. That’s where the gold is.
Rusty.
