The Lowdown
G'day, Rusty here. Look, we've got one spot on the menu for the next couple of weeks – Left Point. It's a point break that's inconsistent, so it needs the right swell to line up. It's picky, but when it's on, it's a beauty. The water temperature is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The big story is a massive pulse of SW groundswell hitting early on. Tuesday the 14th of July kicks off with a solid 12ft SW swell at a very long 16 seconds. The combined energy is pumping at a very strong 9721. The wind is a strong cross-off, but honestly, 12ft is way too big for this spot. It's a washout. By the afternoon, it's even bigger at 13ft and the wind is howling near gale-force. Give it a miss.
The standouts are Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th. Thursday morning has dropped to 7ft SW with a 14-second period and a slight cross-off wind, making for clean conditions. The energy is still strong at 1983. But the pick of the whole run is Thursday afternoon: 8ft SW with a 15-second period, glassy offshores, and the energy is up at 2453. That's a window for experienced surfers only at this size, but the shape will be unreal. Then Friday afternoon is another gem – 8ft SW with a very long 17-second period, glassy calm, and energy at 3276. The point will be handling that long-period groundswell beautifully.
After that, the swell fades. Saturday the 18th has a smaller 5ft swell in the afternoon with glassy conditions, but the energy is moderate (839). The consistency drops off after that. From Sunday the 19th right through to Thursday the 23rd, it's mostly small, messy, and blown out with onshore winds. There's a brief window of clean surf on Tuesday the 21st afternoon with 4ft, and again on Wednesday the 22nd afternoon with glassy 4ft, but the energy is low. It's a long gap of poor to marginal conditions.
Looking further out, Saturday the 25th of July shows promise. A 5ft SW swell with a 13-second period and gentle offshore winds. The energy is moderate (933) and it'll be clean. But it's a long-range call, so keep your fingers crossed. The final entry on Wednesday the 29th of July shows a 6ft SW swell with a very long 19-second period and light onshore wind, but that's a long way off and the wind is onshore, so it's a maybe.
So, the real deal is Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th. The rest of the run is a mix of too big, too small, or blown out.
Rusty.
