The Lowdown
Alright, let’s break down Left Point. This is a point break, needing that WSW swell direction to really hum. The 16-day forecast has some punchy energy, but the wind is a constant battle.
Water temp is 56°F, about 1°F above normal, so nothing crazy for the season.
The two sessions worth paddling out for? First, Monday the 24th of August, afternoon. We’re looking at 5ft of swell from the SW, with a 14-second period. The wind goes glassy, flat calm. The combined energy is moderate at 909. It’s not huge, but it’s clean. It’s great for the intermediate crowd.
The gold star goes to Monday the 31st of August, morning. Swell is 4ft from the SW, but with a massive 20-second period. That’s a very long groundswell. The energy reading is 1768, a solid moderate-strong punch. Wind is glassy again from the east at 3 mph. This is a point break, so that long period will wrap around, giving you smooth, fast walls. This is the session for experienced surfers looking for quality. It’ll be clean as a whistle.
The rest of the window is a mess. From the 19th to the 24th of August, we have strong winds (25-30 mph from the north) and lumpy, cross-onshore chop. Even the bigger swells, like 8ft on the 22nd with 6042 energy, are ruined by the wind. That’s a heavy, bumpy day for experts only. The wind on the 28th of August afternoon becomes a 31 mph offshore, which is a near gale and impossible to paddle.
So, don’t waste your time on the windy days. The 24th afternoon is a clean, fun option. But that dawn patrol on the 31st of August? That’s the one to lock in.
