The Lowdown
Alright, mates, let’s talk about Left Point. We got a bit of a slow start, but there’s some serious swell and clean windows coming up if you know where to look.
The next couple of days are pretty rough. Strong north winds are blowing right onshore through Wednesday and Thursday, making a mess of any small waves that are around. It’s a total write-off until the end of the week.
Friday the 21st picks up a little, pushing 4ft, but the cross-shore wind keeps it lumpy and uninviting. The afternoon lightens up a touch, but it’s still not clean. Not worth getting wet for.
Then we get the first real standout. Saturday the 22nd. The swell jumps to 8ft from the southwest with a solid 15 to 16 second period. The energy is huge. The morning is a bit messy, but that afternoon the wind drops out and turns cross-offshore, leaving it clean. This is heavy, proper surf for experts only. Over 8ft, it’s a serious paddle and a serious drop.
Sunday the 23rd has a similar story. The morning gets chopped up again, but Sunday afternoon is magic. The wind dies completely, going glassy. You still have 7ft of clean swell with a solid period. For a point break, that’s as perfect as it gets. Clean, powerful, and consistent.
Monday is a down day again with fresh onshores. The middle of the week fades into the 4ft range, with mostly cross-shore winds. Not really worth the effort.
For the second week, we have a promising long-range call. The 28th sees a new pulse of bigger swell, pushing 8ft. The afternoon wind swings offshore from the SSW and it’s clean, a proper session.
But the pick of the week is Friday the 29th. The energy readings are the highest of the whole run, with 8ft of SW swell and a 15-second period. The wind is a fresh offshore all day. This is a powerful, clean, big-wave day. Definitely one for the experienced crew. It’s promising, but being that far out, forecasts can shift.
The end of the window settles into the 4ft to 5ft range, with light offshore or cross-off winds. The 31st has some long-period energy that should be nice and lined-up.
So, to sum it up: the start is a dud, but Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon the 23rd are your first real windows of quality. Then, look to Friday the 29th for that big, clean, powerful swell to round it all out. Crowds are possible at Left Point, so if the conditions line up, get in early.
Stay salty.
