Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Left Point has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’re looking at a bit of a slow start at Left Point. The good stuff doesn’t really kick in until Tuesday the 7th. The water temp is sitting at about 57°, which is pretty much what you’d expect for this time of year.
Tuesday the 7th afternoon brings the first real glimmer of hope. We’ve got a clean 5ft swell from the SW, with a long 16-second period, and light cross-offshore winds from the SE. The wave energy is moderate (1146), and it’s clean. It’s not huge, but it’s a start.
Wednesday the 8th is a standout. The afternoon session sees the swell bumping up to 7ft from the SW, still with a long 18-second period. The wind is light and cross-offshore from the SE again. The combined swell energy is solid (2954), and conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. That’s the session to circle on the calendar.
Thursday the 9th afternoon goes glassy. The swell drops a little to 4ft from the SW, but with 15-second periods and zero wind, you’re looking at perfect, clean lines. The energy is moderate (934), but with those conditions, it’s a sleeper hit.
Now, we hit a rough patch. From Friday the 10th morning right through to Sunday the 12th, the winds get nasty, with strong cross-onshore breezes making a mess of things. Even though there’s some decent swell in the water – 10ft on Sunday – it’s totally blown out. Not worth paddling out.
Monday the 13th sees the biggest swell of the period, a 13ft SW groundswell, but it’s accompanied by near gale-force winds. That’s expert-only territory, and honestly, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th keep the size up around 10ft, but the wind remains a problem, though a few windows with cross-offshore wind might give you something, albeit very big and challenging.
We get a real reprieve on Thursday the 16th. The morning shows a solid 7ft SW swell with a 13-second period and light cross-offshore wind from the SSE. The energy is moderate (1460), and the conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. The afternoon remains clean and good with 6ft.
After that, the forecast gets quiet and messy again from Friday the 17th right through to the end of the period. Lots of wind and inconsistency, so not much to get excited about.
So, the true best on offer is Wednesday the 8th afternoon for the big, powerful, clean swell, and Thursday the 16th morning for a solid runner-up. Get out there if you can.
Rusty.
