The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Left Point has got cooking for us over the next couple of weeks. It’s a slow start, but there’s some serious potential waiting for us down the line.
The opening days are a bit of a write-off, if I'm being honest. Nothing really doing until we get past mid-week. The wait pays off though.
We’ve got a decent little pulse showing up on Saturday the 22nd. The swell builds to about 8ft out of the SW, and while the morning is a bit lumpy with a cross-shore wind, the afternoon cleans right up with a light offshore breeze. The wave energy is pumping at (2732) – that's a solid amount of power in the water. This is a good one for the experienced crew; the swell is getting up there in size, so beginners might want to sit this one out. It’s a bit inconsistent by nature here, so don’t expect a set every minute, but when they come, they’ll be worth the wait. Keep in mind the water temp is sitting at about 56°, which is pretty average for this time of year – no nasty surprises there.
The real standout, the one you want to circle on the calendar, is Friday the 28th. Man, that afternoon session is looking like a dream. We’ve got a solid 10ft groundswell rolling in from the SW with a super long period of 17 seconds – that’s serious energy (4781). The wind goes glassy, dead calm. For a point break like this, that long-period SW groundswell hitting the optimum direction is going to produce some beautifully shaped, long lines. This one is strictly for experts at that size. If you can handle it, you’ll be surfing waves of your life.
After that, the swell hangs around but starts to drop. Monday the 31st sees the swell back down to a more manageable 4ft, but it’s still a long-period SW groundswell (16 seconds) with glassy conditions in the morning and light offshore winds in the afternoon. The energy is still decent (1532). This is a much more welcoming size for the strong intermediates – clean, powerful, and with the wind working in our favour.
Into the first few days of September, the swell fades out to smaller, cleaner surf in the 3ft range, but nothing that will blow your socks off.
So, to sum it up: don’t bother paddling out until Saturday the 22nd afternoon for a solid, clean session. But the absolute highlight, the one to make plans for, is Friday the 28th afternoon for some epic, glassy, big-wave conditions. That’s the one.
Rusty.
