The Lowdown
Alright, grab a seat. Rusty here with the look ahead. The first few days are a bit of a snooze, but the back half of the forecast has some real meat on it, so stick with me.
The first proper swell that’s worth talking about arrives on Thursday, July 16th, and it’s a cracker for the experienced crew. All eyes on Left Point. It’s a point break, fairly open to the south-west, but it’s inconsistent, so don’t expect it to fire every time. The water is running about 55°F, which is normal for the season, nothing weird.
Thursday the 16th is the highlight. The morning delivers a clean 8ft SW groundswell with a 15-second period, and the wind is offshore out of the south-west. That’s a beautiful combo. The afternoon holds at 8ft with the same long period and a cross-offshore breeze. The energy is intense, with readings in the 2400-2600 range, meaning strong, powerful waves. This is solid expert territory – waves over 8ft, so leave the foamie at home. This is the one to circle.
After that, Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th see the swell drop. Friday is a mess with cross-on wind, but Saturday afternoon the 18th goes glassy – zero wind – with a clean 5ft SW swell. It’s small but perfect for a quiet session. Then from Sunday the 19th through Wednesday the 22nd, it’s a flat, windblown stretch. Onshore junk and tiny waves, not worth a second look.
Now for the long-range. Thursday the 23rd of July starts to build again, with a strong 6ft to 8ft SW groundswell, but the wind is up. It’s cross-off though, so the faces will be clean, but it’s a wild ride. Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th are the real prizes for the second week. Friday morning the 24th has a clean 8ft SW swell with offshore winds and a 15-second period. That’s a dream setup. The energy is massive again, well over 2000. Saturday the 25th pushes to 10ft with the same direction, but the wind gets a little cross, so the morning will be the call. This is all expert-level, big and powerful. Sunday the 26th and Monday the 27th still have decent, clean 5ft to 7ft SW swell with offshore winds, a nice way to finish the run.
The rest of the outlook into the 30th fades into small, choppy slop. So, to wrap it up: the first real hit is Thursday the 16th, and the bigger, more powerful pulse is Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th. If you’re ready for it, Left Point is the spot.
Rusty.
