Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s break down the next 16 days at Left Point. It’s a point break, pretty exposed to the swell, and it likes the swell from the west-southwest, which is exactly what we’re seeing most of this run. This spot is inconsistent and sometimes gets crowded, so good timing matters. The water’s sitting at 58°F, which is about average for this time of year—nothing weird going on there.
Right now, things are messy. Friday the 3rd kicks off with a big 15ft SW swell, but the wind is howling at 31 mph from the WSW, cross-off, and the wave energy is extreme at 9284. The surf is poor. Not worth paddling out. Saturday the 4th drops to 10ft SW, still a strong 2740 energy, but the wind stays cross-off in the morning. It’s questionable. By Saturday afternoon, the wind turns offshore at 19 mph and the swell settles to 8ft SW, period 13 seconds—cleaner, but still a marginal call. Sunday the 5th sees the swell holding 10ft in the morning with a 17-second period, massive energy at 6152, but the wind is cross from the ESE at 16 mph, creating cross-chop. Not great. The long period that long means the waves might race a bit at this point, but it’s not terrible. Afternoon Sunday drops to 8ft but the wind picks up and gets lumpy.
Monday the 6th morning is all wrong—onshore wind, small 5ft—skip it. But Monday afternoon? The wind drops to 3 mph from the SSE, cross-off, and the swell is 4ft SW with a clean face. The energy is weak at 726, but it’s the first real chance for a clean little session. Not a standout, but a sneaky good window if you’re keen.
Tuesday the 7th morning is iffy with small cross-on swell, but Tuesday afternoon cleans up nicely: 5ft SW, 16 seconds, cross-off from the SW at only 6 mph, energy 1052—that’s a clean, fun wave. Wednesday the 8th morning stays small and cross-on, but Wednesday afternoon is where things start cooking: 7ft SW, 17 seconds, 3102 energy, offshore from the ESE at 9 mph. That’s excellent for experienced surfers—clean, solid, long-period groundswell. This is one of the best windows in the run.
Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th are a write-off—choppy, cross-onshore, poor quality. Saturday the 11th is also a dud, with strong onshore winds and dropping swell. Sunday the 12th gets messy again with 25 mph north winds and a cross-onshore mess, even though there’s a 6ft SW swell with 18-second period underneath—the wind ruins it.
Now here’s the big one: Monday the 13th. This is a monster. The swell hits 16ft SW, but it’s too big for Left Point—the forecast even says that. Wind is offshore at 25 mph, clean, but paddling into that beast is only for experts. Energy is 6400 in the morning, 7736 in the afternoon. If you’re a pro and you’re comfortable with heavy, big-point waves, this is the standout, but it’s not for most people. Tuesday the 14th is still big but the wind cranks to 31-37 mph—near gale, dangerous. Wednesday the 15th stays windy and offshore with 7ft swell, but the wind is too strong for easy paddling.
The end of the run settles down. Thursday the 16th is small and clean-ish, nothing special. Then Friday the 17th? That’s the real hidden gem. Morning is glassy—3 mph from the SSE, 5ft SW, 13 seconds, energy 1236—clean, smooth, perfect point surf. Friday afternoon is offshore at 6 mph, 6ft SW, 14 seconds—still clean and fun. This Friday session is the best all-rounder for most surfers: not too big, clean wind, good energy.
Saturday the 18th morning is cross-on again, but Saturday afternoon finishes the run with offshore wind, 5ft SW, clean—a solid exit.
Best on offer: Wednesday afternoon July 8th for experienced crew wanting solid, clean groundswell. And Friday July 17th for glassy, fun, all-levels waves. The rest is a mix of messy or way too big.
