Alright, Rusty here. Let’s get into the outlook for this spot.
We’ve got a solid run of surf kicking off right now, Monday the 6th of July, and it stays pretty good through the first half of the week. The standout is easily Saltwater – a point break that’s exposed to the swell. Swell’s coming from the southeast, which is bang on for this place, around 6 ft, with a period of 10 seconds. That’s a nice, workable groundswell for an advanced crew. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there. The energy is solid moderate (994), and with a light cross-offshore breeze from the south at 6 mph, the waves are clean. This carries through Monday afternoon and into Tuesday morning, with the wind turning offshore from the southwest on Tuesday morning – that’s the pick of the bunch, with 6 ft swell and a gentle offshore breeze making for some proper clean lines. Tuesday afternoon picks up a bit to 7 ft, but the wind goes cross-off, still clean though.
Wednesday the 8th keeps the quality high in the morning – 6 ft, offshore wind, clean. The afternoon drops to 5 ft and goes cross-off, still surfable but less punch. Thursday morning the 9th is a treat: glassy conditions, 5 ft, and the energy drops to a more mellow moderate (366). It’s good, but the swell’s backing off. From Thursday afternoon through the weekend, it turns poor. Friday the 10th sees onshore wind and small, weak swell down to 4 ft. Saturday and Sunday are even worse, with tiny waves and onshore slop. That gap of poor surf runs from Thursday afternoon all the way through to Sunday the 12th.
Now, looking further ahead: Monday the 13th is a write-off with tiny swell and strong offshore winds – not worth paddling for. Tuesday the 14th is flat. But then we get a potential big pulse. On Wednesday the 15th of July, a new south swell pushes in at 7 ft in the morning, building to 8 ft in the afternoon, with fresh offshore winds from the southwest. The energy is ramping back up (685–954). The catch is the forecast is a bit marginal for quality, and the wind is strong – fresh breeze. This is more for experienced surfers due to the size, and the strong offshore will make it lumpy. Thursday the 16th morning is the real standout of the second week: 8 ft swell from the SSE, 9-second period, with a moderate offshore wind. The combined energy is strong at 2033, and the notes say excellent conditions for experienced surfers. That’s a big, powerful day – only for experts. After that, Friday the 17th looks good again with 6 ft and a gentle offshore, and Friday afternoon brings a longer-period 13-second swell at 7 ft with excellent energy (1521). That’s another expert-level session, though the wind goes cross-off.
After Friday, it trails off into the weekend with onshore winds and dropping swell, and by Monday the 20th it’s tiny again. The far end, Tuesday the 21st of July, shows a massive 13 ft swell from the SSE, but with a fresh offshore wind and marginal quality warnings – this is for the brave only, and the strong wind will make it challenging.
Overall, the first few days are the most reliable and clean. The Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th sessions are the next big opportunities, but they’re less certain this far out. Crowds are sometimes a thing at Saltwater, so expect some company on the good days.
Rusty.
