Table - best surf conditions forecast for Short Point over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's get into it.
Look, the next week or so is a flat spell, pure and simple. We've got a long stretch of tiny or no waves, with only a few days where the ocean even looks like it might cough up a rideable ripple. Don't get your hopes up too early.
We kick off on the 13th of July with Monday morning offering a tiny 0.3ft easterly swell with a 9 second period. The combined energy is a paltry 2 (weak). The water temp is 61°, which is about average for the time of year. It's clear skies and a cross-off breeze, but the waves are just too small to bother with – poor surf conditions.
Moving through the week, Tuesday and Wednesday and beyond are the same story – waves barely registering, often with no swell height at all. We do get a few glassy mornings (like Wednesday the 15th and Friday the 17th), which sting, as they'd be perfect if there was any swell.
Finally, on Monday the 20th of July, we see a pulse of life. The morning brings a 3ft swell from the ENE at 9 seconds, with a combined energy of 164 (moderate). The conditions are described as 'surfable but very ordinary' – it’s clean with a cross-off breeze, so you could paddle out but don't expect perfection. The swell direction is from the ENE, which is not the NE optimum that Short Point likes best.
The best of the whole outlook, by a whisker, arrives on Tuesday the 21st of July. The morning is completely glassy with a 3ft NE swell, 9 second period, and 165 combined energy. The wind is dead calm – glass! – and the swell direction is a solid NE, which is right on the money for Short Point. The afternoon stays glassy with a 3ft ENE swell and 101 energy. Honestly, for a stretch this flat, that Tuesday morning is the standout. The wave heights stay under 5ft, so it's great for all skill levels. Expect a crowd though, as this break is 'often' busy.
After that, the energy fades again. We get a 3ft SSW swell on Thursday the 23rd morning, but with a short 6 second period and only 81 energy, it's not great. The wind is clean, but the waves will be weak and messy at that period.
The final tiny highlight is on Sunday the 26th of July morning, with a 5ft SSW swell that feels bigger, clocking in at 164 energy. But the period is only 6 seconds, so it'll be a bumpy, short-interval mess. Not worth the paddle.
Rusty out.
