Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s break down what Short Point has cooking over the next couple weeks. Right off the bat, Saturday the 4th through to Tuesday the 8th morning are dead – tiny, weak swell and cross-off winds mean zero surfable waves. There’s a big gap there. Then Wednesday morning the 8th, we finally get something.
Wednesday morning the 8th at Short Point brings a clean 7ft swell from the southeast, with a 10-second period – solid groundswell. The combined energy is strong at 938, so there’s real punch. Winds are light cross-off from the southwest, so the waves should be clean and well-shaped. That’s the standout of the whole run. Water temp is 61°F, which is normal for this time of year.
Now, Short Point is a beginner-friendly break, and with the swell over 5ft, that morning might be a bit much for newbies. For anyone with some experience though, it’s the best on offer. Thursday the 9th drops back to tiny 2ft and weak energy – not worth the paddle. Then Friday the 10th morning delivers again – 7ft from the southeast, 10-second period, combined energy at 804, and glassy offshore winds from the northwest. That’s clean, powerful surf, but again, over 6ft is solid for intermediates and above. Saturday the 11th morning stays fun with 5ft from the southeast, light cross-off, and combined energy at 380 – a nice, clean, manageable size for most.
After that, Sunday the 12th afternoon brings 7ft from the north-northeast, but only a short 6-second period – that’s messy windswell, not quality. Monday the 13th morning has 5ft from the north-northeast with an 8-second period and light cross-off, so it’s surfable but ordinary. From Tuesday the 14th onward, it’s back to small, weak, and forgettable with cross-off breezes and tiny waves right through to Sunday the 19th.
So the best bet is Wednesday morning the 8th – that 7ft southeast groundswell with clean conditions. Friday morning the 10th is also a strong option. The rest is pretty average or flat.
Rusty.
