The Lowdown

Well, grab a coffee and sit down, ’cause the next 16 days at Lennards Island are really quiet. This spot is a point break that favours an advanced crew, and it’s inconsistent – it rarely turns on – so a blank run like this is pretty normal for the area. We’ve got a long gap of barely anything worth paddlin’ out for.

The first few days are flat and sad. Sunday the 2nd and Monday the 3rd deliver tiny, weak swell with messy cross-onshore winds. The combined wave energy is just 334 and then 263 for Sunday mornin' and arvo – that’s feeble – then drops to pathetic numbers like 80 and 58 on Monday. Sure, Monday afternoon sees a clean offshore breeze, but with only a 1ft SE swell at 11 seconds, it’s barely a ripple. You’d be bobbin’ around on a longboard at best. The water temp is 61°, which is about average for this time of year, so nothing weird there.

Then from Tuesday 4th all the way through to Saturday 9th, the swell is laughable – 0.3ft to 1ft mostly, with combined energy usually below 30. Some mornings are clean and offshore, but there’s no push. The only small glimmer is Sunday 9th afternoon when the swell builds to 3ft from the NE, period only 7 seconds, and combined energy hits 104. But with a fresh cross-onshore blowin’ 22 mph, it’s lumpy and chopped – a write-off.

The second week stays poor. Monday 10th through Wednesday 12th see swell around 1ft to 1ft, with clean offshore wind at times, but wave energy is in the 30s and 40s – still not enough for a real session. Thursday 13th morning brings the biggest swell of the whole outlook: 3ft from the NE at 8 seconds, with combined energy of 115. Problem is, it’s blowin’ cross-onshore at 12 mph, so it’s choppy and sloppy – not the clean, lined-up point wave you’d want. That’s about as close as it gets to a highlight, but it’s not one I’d call a standout.

The last few days, Friday 14th to Monday 17th, are a repeat – 1ft to 2ft of ENE swell, with moderate to strong offshore wind (sometimes 25 mph, which is hard to paddle into). Combined energy sits in the 20s to 60s. Clean, sure, but the swell just isn’t there. For an advanced point break that needs proper groundswell and the right direction (NE is optimum here), none of these small, short-period slops cut it.

Honest truth: there’s no decent surf in the 16-day window. The entire forecast is a write-off. If you’re desperate, the cleanest windows are the offshore mornings, but you’ll need a big board and zero expectations. The waters are flat, the pattern is stuck, and it’s just one of those runs for Lennards Island. Forecasts can change though – it tends not to stay this poor for long.
