Black Point Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Black Point has in store for us over the coming weeks. It’s a bit of a rough start, so don’t be in a hurry to wax up just yet.

The first few days are a write-off. Tuesday the 15th and Wednesday the 16th are a complete no-go. We’ve got onshore winds and messy, lumpy conditions, and the swell is just not cooperating. Wednesday morning actually sees a big pulse of energy – 12ft of south swell – but it’s all for nothing with that fresh cross-onshore wind. That’s expert-only territory if you’re feeling brave, but honestly, it looks more like a kite-surfing setup than anything you’d want to paddle into.

Thursday the 17th is still pretty ordinary. Swell drops back to the 6-7ft range, but the wind remains cross-onshore. It’s marginal at best – you *could* get wet, but you probably won’t enjoy it.

Now, here’s where things turn. Friday the 18th of September is the standout in this forecast. Early morning, the wind goes glassy – absolute dead calm – with a clean 4ft south swell pushing in. Combined energy sits at 405, which is a nice moderate level. The break (Black Point) is a point setup, and that long-period swell at 9 seconds will be holding some nice shape. This is your window. The afternoon stays clean with a light cross-offshore breeze too. It’s not massive, but it’s surfable, it’s clean, and it’s the best on offer by a long shot. This is the one to aim for.

The weekend after that is disappointing. Saturday the 19th drops right off – we’re talking tiny 2-3ft waves and hardly any energy. Sunday the 20th is even smaller, with waves barely breaking. Not worth your time.

Monday the 21st brings a big spike of energy – 8ft south swell – but the wind is howling onshore from the SSE. That’s a messy, blown-out mess. Not for surfing.

Tuesday the 22nd afternoon shows some promise again. The swell is 5ft from the SSE with a clean cross-offshore breeze. The combined energy is moderate at 545, and the wave comment says “expect very good surf conditions.” This is a solid second option, but it’s not quite as clean as that Friday morning glass-off.

After that, the rest of the forecast is pretty average. We see some small, clean waves through the end of September, but nothing with much punch. The 23rd through 28th are all small – mostly under 5ft – with clean winds but low energy. It’s sessionable, but don’t expect any fireworks. The swell direction shifts to the NE, which isn’t ideal for Black Point, and the period is short. By the 29th and 30th, it’s back to poor conditions with cross-onshore winds and choppy water.

So, to sum it up: if you’ve got one session to pick, make it Friday morning the 18th of September. The glassy conditions and clean 4ft south swell are your best bet. Tuesday the 22nd afternoon is a solid backup. The rest of the run is either too small, too windy, or too messy to get excited about.
