Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's comin' our way for Aussie Pipe over the next couple of weeks. It's gonna be a mixed bag, gotta surf smart with this one.
First up, the water temp is sittin' at 65°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you might get away with a step down in rubber.
So, the first week’s pretty much a write-off, honestly. There’s nothin' worth paddlin' out for from Sunday the 5th right through to Thursday the 10th of July. We’re talkin' a solid five days of poor surf conditions – lumpy, choppy, and those strong cross-onshore winds are just wreckin' the joint. The swell's got some size, over 8ft at times, but the combined wave energy is massive (2996 on Sunday arvo), but it's just messy, messy, messy.
We finally get a glimmer of hope on Friday the 10th of July. The arvo session looks alright. The swell drops to a mellow 5ft from the southeast, but the wind is just a slight offshore breeze from the east. That’s gonna clean it right up. The energy is low (504), and it’s a little inconsistent, but for a quick arvo paddle on the low tide, it’ll be surfable. If you’re desperate, that’s your window. Saturday the 11th has a clean morning with some light cross-shore, but the swell is puny at 4ft, so again, nothın’ to get excited about.
Then we hit a dead zone. From Sunday the 12th straight through to Thursday the 16th of July, the swell just flatlines. We’re talkin’ tiny, knee-high dribble at best, with some windy rubbish thrown in. That’s a solid five-day gap with no recommendations.
Now, lookin' out toward the second week, and this is where it gets a bit promising, but you gotta keep the pin in the calendar. Mark down Friday the 17th of July. The afternoon session is the standout of the whole forecast. A solid 12ft groundswell from the southeast, and it's got that lovely long period of 15 seconds – that's proper energy. The combined energy is a massive 4556, so it'll be powerful. The wind is light and variable, just a cross-shore breeze, so it should be clean. Now, with a period that long at a reef break, the sets will be clean and walling, but you'll be waiting a while between them. It’s gonna be a classic session for the experienced crew, but that size (12ft) is definitely only for the experts.
Saturday the 18th of July is still pumping with 10ft of southeast swell, but that cross-shore wind from the WNW picks up, so it’s gonna have a bit of a chop on it. Still a good day for the advanced rippers. Sunday the 19th of July morning looks okay, with a smaller 7ft swell and gentle cross-shore winds, so it might clean up a bit. After that, the swell drops back off through the start of the next week.
So, the real call for the whole period: If you're game for a big, clean, long-period groundswell, Friday the 17th of July afternoon is the one. Just remember, it’s a two-week forecast, so keep an eye on it. For a more mellow paddle, Friday the 10th of July afternoon is your only real chance at a clean, small-wave session in the first week.
Stay safe out there.
