The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s on offer for Aussie Pipe over the next couple of weeks.
First up, we’ve got a bit of a quiet start. The reef is often crowded and it’s inconsistent here, so patience is a virtue. The water temperature is sitting about average for this time of year, nothing wild there.
The first real window of opportunity looks like Thursday the 27th of August. It’s not huge, with a south swell around 4ft, but the magic is in the morning glass-off. It’s dead calm, glassy conditions, and the combined energy is moderate (316). That’s a rare treat for a spot that usually sees a bit of wind. It’s surfable, but don’t expect perfection.
Then, Friday the 28th of August morning is where things get interesting. We’ve got a 3ft swell from the SSE, but it’s glassy again, and the swell energy jumps up to 405 – that’s solid moderate energy. The wind is dead calm, so the reef will be clean as a whistle. This is likely the best session of the first week. The swell direction is from the SSE, which is a bit off the optimum SE, but with that glassy wind and decent energy, it’s a true standout.
The weekend has some small, clean waves, but nothing to get overly excited about. The 30th and 31st are small and weak.
Now, looking further out, things get really promising, but it’s a long way off. Mark your calendars for Saturday the 5th of September. That morning we’re looking at a 2ft swell from the SE, but the period is a whopping 16 seconds – that’s very long-period groundswell that will wrap in beautifully. The combined energy is a strong 643, and it’s glassy. This is a classic long-period reef swell; the sets will be clean, powerful, and well-spaced. The afternoon stays clean with a 3ft swell from the SSE. This is looking like the absolute peak of the entire forecast window, but remember, it’s two weeks out, so keep an eye on the charts.
The rest of the second week is mostly small and messy, with strong winds and poor conditions. Nothing to write home about after that Saturday.
So, the standout call is Friday the 28th of August morning for the clean glassy conditions, and the big one to watch for is Saturday the 5th of September morning for that long-period groundswell.
Rusty out.
