Table - best surf conditions forecast for Plantation Point over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get into it. Rusty here, looking at the outlook for Plantation Point. This is a sheltered point break that needs a very specific SE swell to really get going, and it’s inconsistent, so you gotta pick your moments.
Right now, we’re looking at a patchy start. Thursday the 9th we’ve got some 5ft SE swell wrapping in with a 10-second period, and the wind is holding light and offshore from the SW, so the surf is clean. But the energy is only moderate (686) and the conditions are just ordinary. Nothing to get excited about just yet. That continues into Friday the 10th with a 5ft to 5ft swell, but the wind turns cross-off and then cross, and the quality drops off. By Saturday the 11th, the swell fades hard to under 3ft and the winds go onshore or cross, so it’s a write-off.
We’re looking at a long flat spell after that. Sunday the 12th through Tuesday the 14th is tiny, weak, and barely breaking. The combined energy drops to two-digit numbers, pathetic. The water temp is 64°F, which is pretty normal for this time of year, just a touch warmer than average.
Then things shift. Wednesday the 15th brings a pulse of S swell, 7ft by morning, but the period is short at 7 seconds, and the wind is a fresh 19 mph offshore. That’s raw and messy. By the afternoon it’s 10ft, but the quality is poor. Thursday the 16th gets big, real big. 15ft of SSE swell with a 9-10 second period, and the wind is cross-off at 19 mph. The combined energy is massive (3004-3949), but that size is expert-only, and the conditions are only marginal. Only for the brave.
The standout window is Saturday the 18th. The swell holds at 13ft from the SE, period stretching to 11 seconds, and the wind is a light cross-off from the SE at 6 mph. That’s clean, powerful, and the combined energy is through the roof (4079). This is the best on offer, but it’s a big one—only for experienced surfers on a point that handles it. The crowd factor is “sometimes,” so you might have company, but with that size, it’ll thin out.
Sunday the 19th is still good, 10ft SE swell with a 6 mph offshore from the SW, clean, but the energy drops a bit. By Monday the 20th, the swell winds down and the wind turns onshore, so it’s game over. There’s a bit of a pulse late in the month on the 21st and 22nd, but it’s crossed up and windy, nothing to call home about.
So, bottom line: there’s a long gap of flatness from the 11th to the 14th, then a big, raw pulse from the 15th, but the real standout is Saturday the 18th. That’s your day if you’re expert and hungry.
Rusty.
