Updates in  hr  min  s Forecast update imminent

G'day, this is Rusty. Alright, let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Plantation Point (Jervis Bay). We’ve got a solid run of clean surf kicking off Monday, but the real standouts are tucked away in the first week, with a late-breaking giant showing up further down the line.

The forecast opens with a cloudy Monday, the 6th of July. The swell is a touch under 8 ft from the SSE, with a period of 10 seconds. The wind is a moderate offshore breeze, so the face is clean. The combined energy is pumping at 1221, which is a decent amount of grunt. It’s surfable, but it’s a little messy for a true standout. The water temp is 65°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.

Tuesday the 7th is where it really starts to cook. We’ve got a solid 10 ft swell from the SE, with a 10-second period in the morning and an 11-second period in the afternoon. The wind is a moderate offshore from the S and SW all day, keeping it glassy. The combined energy jumps to a massive 3508 in the morning and 2117 in the afternoon. This is a proper groundswell for the point, and it’s going to be a full day of quality waves. That’s your first big standout.

Wednesday the 8th is still a ripper, with 8 ft down to 7 ft from the SE and a consistent 10-second period. The wind is a gentle offshore, so it’s clean and lined up. Combined energy is still well into the triple digits (1315 and 1148). You’ll be smiling.

Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th drop off a bit. Swell dips to 5 ft, and the wind turns cross-offshore. The energy drops to 711 and 460-odd. It’s still clean, but it’s ordinary. That’s the start of the gap.

From Saturday the 11th right through to Wednesday the 15th of July, it’s a real struggle. Swell drops to under 3 ft, winds are all over the shop, and the combined energy falls to below 200. It’s a full week of poor surf conditions. Not much to chase.

Now, here’s the late-week banger. Thursday the 16th of July sees a new pulse of 8 ft from the S, with a 9-10 second period and a moderate offshore. The energy is back up to 1092. That’s a good sign of things to come.

Then Friday the 17th of July is the big one. The swell jumps to a solid 13 ft from the S in the morning, with a 12-second period. The combined energy hits 8494, which is a monster reading. The wind is a gentle offshore, and the conditions are described as excellent for experienced surfers. This is a heavy, powerful groundswell for the point. Only for the well-practiced, as 13 ft is well into expert territory, but the shape on a point break like this should be incredible. The afternoon drops to 10 ft but stays clean.

After that, Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th switch back to smaller, poor conditions with onshore winds, and the energy drops off a cliff. The following Monday and Tuesday (20th and 21st of July) are still small, with some weird long-period stuff (18-19 seconds) but only 2-3 ft, so it’s just a messy chop.

Bottom line: Tuesday the 7th is your best bet for a full day of big, clean, lined-up waves. And for the brave, Friday the 17th of July is a serious, heavy groundswell that will be a true test of skill. The point will handle the long period better than a beach break, so keep that in mind.

Rusty.
