The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Depot Beach.
We’ve got a bit of a slow start, but the outlook really brightens up by the end of the week and into next week. The first few days are mostly small or messy, but don’t write it off – there are some absolute crackers on the horizon.
Wednesday morning the 15th kicks things off with a 7ft south swell, and while the period is a short 8 seconds, the cross-off wind from the WSW is keeping things clean. The water is a comfortable 63°, which is about average for this time of year. The combined energy is moderate (1011), so there’s some push there. This one is for the advanced crew only – it’s got some size to it.
Thursday the 16th sees the swell drop right off. By Friday morning the 17th, we’re looking at tiny 3ft waves from the SSE. The wind goes glassy, which is beautiful, but there’s just no energy (41). It’s a real flat spell here for a few days.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Sunday morning the 19th, a new ENE groundswell fills in at 4ft with a long 11-second period. The wind is glassy from the NW. That’s a proper clean start to the day and the combined energy jumps to a strong 411. This is the first real standout. Monday morning the 20th is even better: 5ft from the ENE, 10-second period, light NNW cross-off, and the energy is pumping at 544. That’s the pick of the bunch for the first week.
Tuesday the 21st holds similar conditions, and then Wednesday the 22nd sees offshore winds from the W with a clean 4ft swell. The swells stay consistent through the end of the month, with Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th offering up solid 5ft to 5ft ENE groundswells. The 23rd afternoon has a 15 mph offshore wind from the W, making for a very clean, powerful session.
Saturday the 25th morning is another beauty – 4ft ENE, light NNW cross-off, and energy at 506. That’s a top-notch morning.
The second week tails off a bit. From the 27th onward, the swell drops below 3ft and the winds get a bit onshore. There’s a small window on the 30th morning with a 4ft south swell and clean offshore winds, but it’s a short-lived pulse.
Overall, the standout sessions are Sunday morning the 19th, Monday morning the 20th, and Thursday afternoon the 23rd. If you’re an experienced surfer, Wednesday morning the 15th is also a solid option. For the rest of it, pick your windows carefully.
Rusty.
