The Lowdown
Hey, Rusty here again. Let’s talk feet and miles.
The first few days are a total dud. Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th have waves from 0.6ft to 3ft, with onshore junk. Not worth it.
The real show starts Sunday the 19th morning. We’ve got a clean 5ft swell from the ENE, with a 12-second period – that’s proper groundswell. The combined energy is 812, which is moderate-to-strong. The wind is glassy, offshore from the NW, so it’s gonna be silky smooth. This is the pick of the entire forecast. The swell direction isn’t exactly the optimum SE, but the size, period, and glass make it the best on offer. Get out before the wind shifts in the arvo.
Monday the 20th holds 5ft to 7ft, but the wind is side-shore, so it’ll be a bit bumpy. Still rideable.
Tuesday the 21st morning is glassy again with a 5ft ENE swell. Clean and fun.
Wednesday the 22nd morning is clean with 3ft waves. Small but tidy.
Thursday the 23rd afternoon – big call. We’ve got a 10ft swell from the S, but with a short 8-second period. That’s a lot of water, and the energy is strong at 953. This is expert-only, and might be better for kite gear than a paddle board.
From Friday the 24th through the end of the month, it’s mostly 0.6ft to 3ft, with glassy mornings but very ordinary. A few clean windows, but nothing to get excited about.
Then Saturday the 1st of August brings a 4ft swell from the S with a 12-second period, clean with a cross-offshore breeze. A solid option, but it’s a long way off.
So, bottom line: Sunday the 19th morning is the one. Clean, chest-to-head-high groundswell, glassy. Don’t sleep on it.
Rusty.
