Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s in store for the coast.
We’ve got a solid run of surf ahead, but it’s not for the faint of heart. The first real action hits Monday afternoon, July 6th, with a 8ft SSE swell at 10 seconds. The south wind is cross, making for a bit of chop. This is more of a warm-up – not the cleanest, but the ocean is starting to wake up.
Tuesday morning, July 7th, is where things get serious. A 10ft SE groundswell (10 seconds) is rolling in, and the SSW wind is cross-offshore. The water is a mild 63° which is about average for this time of year. But honestly, that’s a big, powerful swell for this stretch – combined energy is thumping at 3205 (moderate to strong). This is expert territory. If you’re not solid, sit this one out. It’s too much for most.
Wednesday morning, July 8th, eases back but stays meaty. A 7ft SE swell (10 seconds) with light SSW cross-offshore wind and clean conditions. This is still a serious wave for experienced surfers only. The morning is the window – by afternoon the swell drops and the wind turns a bit cross.
Thursday morning, July 9th, offers a smaller, friendlier 4ft SE swell (10 seconds) with a light SW cross-offshore breeze. Clean again. This will be the most user-friendly day of the first week – still with enough push to make it fun.
Friday morning, July 10th, the swell holds at 4ft SE (9 seconds) and, here’s the real treat – glassy conditions with a light NW wind. This is a standout for the week. Clean, lined-up waves with no wind fuss. If I was picking one day for the best mix of size and perfection, this is it.
After that, the surf fades fast. Saturday and Sunday drop to waist-high or smaller, and although Sunday sees clean offshore WNW winds, the energy is low (combined energy drops to 118 on Sunday morning). The early part of the following week, July 13th-15th, is near flat – barely a ripple. A long gap with nothing worth paddling for.
Things perk up again Thursday afternoon, July 16th, when a fresh groundswell shows – 7ft from the south (10 seconds) with a light onshore breeze. Then Friday morning, July 17th, brings another expert-level window: 6ft S swell (11 seconds) with light NNW cross-offshore winds and clean conditions. This is the second standout – smaller than Tuesday but better shaped, with that longer period holding power. Combined energy is 1039 (moderate).
Saturday morning, July 18th, drops to 5ft SSE (11 seconds) with clean cross-offshore winds. Good, but not the standout.
Looking further out, Sunday July 19th offers 4ft SE (11 seconds) with clean conditions again. Solid background swell, but nothing that screams epic.
Now, through all this, keep in mind the swell direction for Depot Beach prefers SE. Most of the best days line up with that. It’s a fairly consistent spot, so even the gaps aren’t tragic – just standard for the region. Forecasts can change too, so don’t write off the lulls entirely.
Rusty.
