Table - best surf conditions forecast for Voodoo over the next 16 days.
Alright mate, let’s have a look at what’s cooking at Voodoo. This is a reef that is inconsistent, so I’m only talking about when it’s actually worth getting wet. Water temp is about 63.5°F, which is normal for this time of year—nothing wild.
First real chance comes Saturday afternoon, July 11. You’ve got a small 3-foot swell out of the east-southeast, with 11-second intervals. The wind is from the northeast at 9 mph, offshore and clean. The combined energy is 310 (moderate). It’s not a monster, but for a south-exposed reef, this is a solid little window. Quality over size here.
Sunday, July 12, right through to Saturday morning, July 18, is dead. Strong west and south winds, tiny chop, essentially flat. That’s almost a full week of nothing.
It picks up again Sunday morning, July 19. Swell is 6.2 feet out of the east-southeast, 8-second period, but the wind is light from the northwest at 9 mph, cross-off and clean. Energy is 482 (moderate). Afternoon sees the wind go offshore from the northeast at 16 mph, swell still 6.2 feet but from the east, 9-second period, energy at 646 (moderate). This is a genuine option. Voodoo does see crowds sometimes, so be prepared.
The standout is Thursday afternoon, July 23. This is the one for the big dogs. Swell is 8.2 feet from the east-southeast with a 12-second period, and the wind goes flat calm from the northwest—glassy. The energy reading is 2813 (strong). This is expert only—over 5 feet and definitely over 8 feet means this is for the experienced crew only.
Friday morning and afternoon, July 24, keep the goods coming with 8.2-foot to 9.8-foot southeast swells, 11 to 13-second periods, and light east and offshore breezes. Energy is strong (2142 to 2769). Another excellent window for experts.
Saturday, July 25, the swell drops to 5.9 to 6.6 feet from the east-southeast, but the wind turns light onshore, so it gets marginal. The run finishes clean on Sunday, July 26, with 3.0 to 3.3 feet east-southeast swell under light offshore winds. Nice, but not the main event.
So to wrap it up: Saturday afternoon July 11 is a good little session, but the real standout is Thursday afternoon July 23 and Friday July 24. That’s when Voodoo turns on for the experienced surfers who like it clean and powerful.
Stay salty.
