Table - best surf conditions forecast for Voodoo over the next 16 days.

G’day, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: Voodoo (a reef break, advanced territory) is the only spot in the picture, and the next 16 days look like a right mixed bag. The first recommendation is on Saturday, July 11th, so there’s a bit of a wait with no good surf until then.

The big news is a powerful run of southerly groundswell that muscled in from around July 8th, but with strong onshore winds, it’s been a total write-off. The combined wave energy blasted up to 1481 (very strong) on Wednesday the 8th, but 19 mph southerlies made it a washing machine. That window is gone.

The first glimpse of something worthwhile shows on Saturday afternoon, July 11th. The swell has dropped to a clean 3 ft from the ESE with a period of 11 seconds – that long period groundswell will give proper shape. And here’s the clincher: a light offshore NNE breeze at 6 mph, glassy, clean. Combine that with moderate wave energy (287), and you’ve got yourself the standout window of the whole period. It won’t be huge, but for a demanding reef, those conditions are precious. Keep in mind Voodoo is inconsistent and rarely breaks, so when it lines up like this, you’ll have the crew on it *sometimes* – expect a few out.

After that, the swell dies right off. The morning of Sunday the 12th is a write-off with 22 mph westerlies and barely 2 ft. The entire week into the second week is flat or messy – poor conditions with a lot of cross and onshore junk. The combined energy often dips below 100 (weak). It’s a real lull.

Then things start to look more promising again on Wednesday, July 15th, especially the afternoon. Swell jumps to 8 ft from the south at 8 seconds – short period, but it’s packing decent punch. Combined energy is 690 (moderate), and with a light offshore easterly at 3 mph, it’s clean. The break is tricky: over 8 ft makes it strictly for experts at a reef, but those light winds are a major positive. Worth a look if you’ve got the skill.

The following week has some solid but wind-affected bumps. On Monday afternoon, July 20th, there’s another standout: 6 ft from the SE with an 11-second period, and a gentle offshore east breeze at 9 mph. Combined energy of 867 (moderate) and clean conditions. That’ll hold good shape, maybe the best long-range promise. Still, anything over a week out – keep an open mind, forecasts shift.

Water temp is sitting around 63°F, which is about average for the time of year – nothing weird there.

So overall, this reef is a gamble. The best bet is Saturday the 11th afternoon for clean, smaller lined-up waves, then keep an eye on July 15th afternoon and July 20th afternoon for bigger, expert-only action if the wind stays kind. If you’re a beginner or looking for consistent waves, this is not the stretch for you – wait for the next pulse.

Stay sharp out there.
Rusty.
