Alright, Rusty here, and I’ve got a look at what’s coming our way over the next couple of weeks. It’s a classic winter run for this spot, with some serious juice early and then a long, quiet spell.

We’re starting off with some proper South Pacific groundswell hitting Kiama Pool. This is an advanced reef set-up, so don’t even think about it if you’re not comfortable in heaving water. The ocean is absolutely fired up from Tuesday the 7th through to Thursday morning the 10th, with a big pulse of energy. On Tuesday morning the 7th, the swell’s pushing a solid 3.0m from the SSE with a period of 10 seconds, and the combined energy is a massive 4047—that is some serious grunt. The water is 19°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. That offshore SSW breeze at 12 mph will have the place looking like a postcard, but only for the crew with the skills and the nerve. By Tuesday afternoon, the swell bumps up to 3.5m from the SE, but that wind swings more side-off at 12 mph, so it’s still clean but a bit more lined up.

Wednesday the 8th keeps the goods coming, with a 2.4m SE swell and a gentle 9 mph offshore wind. The energy is still high at 1422—moderate to strong, and the sets will have some push. That period holds at 10 seconds, giving the waves some shape. It drops a notch on Thursday the 9th, with a 1.6m SE swell, but that SSW offshore is still blowing at 9 mph, making for a very clean morning session. Energy is moderate at 682.

Now, here’s the standout window. If you can get out there on Friday morning the 10th, you’re looking at the best conditions for a wider range. The swell is a more manageable 1.3m from the SE, but the wind goes *glassy*—dead calm at 3 mph from the SW. That is a rare treat for a reef break, and the waves will be silky smooth. Energy is still moderate at 414. That’s the session where the quality will shine. The afternoon turns a bit average though, with that ENE breeze ruining the fun.

After that, it’s a long, drawn-out goodbye. From Friday afternoon the 10th, the surf starts to fade. We drop through Saturday the 11th with small 1.1m windswell and a cross-shore breeze that kills the shape. By Sunday the 12th, we’re down to a dribbly 0.5m from the ESE, and then we hit a full-on flat spell. From Sunday the 12th all the way through to Wednesday the 15th, the energy numbers are in the double digits or just over 100—that’s weak, barely surfable slop. You’re looking at days of nothing doing; a blank run that’s pretty normal for this area when the swell window shuts.

The run picks up again a little on Wednesday afternoon the 15th, with a 1.3m S swell coming in, and it starts to build. Then Thursday morning the 16th brings a spike: a 2.2m S groundswell with a long 12-second period, and a solid 12 mph offshore from the SW. That’s serious swell for experts only—at 2.2m on a reef, that’s a heavy drop. Energy shoots back up to 1471. It’s a promising, long-range hope, but a week and a half out, you’ve got to keep fingers crossed.

After that, it’s another quick fall-off. Friday the 17th has a 1.4m SSE swell with a nice light offshore, but then we’re heading back into small, weak conditions through the 18th to the 22nd. Most days show energy below 100—weak, messy, and not worth paddling out. The weekend of the 19th and 20th is flat, with tiny 0.4m to 0.8m slop and onshore or cross breezes.

So, bottom line: get out there Friday morning the 10th for the glassy, clean 1.3m waves. That’s the pick. If you’re a charger and you can handle the size, Tuesday the 7th is a ripper, but it’s for the brave. Everything else in the second week is a long shot promise that might not deliver. Crowds at Kiama Pool are sometimes an issue, and for a gem like Friday morning, I’d expect a few locals on it. But when it’s that clean, it’s worth the company.

Rusty.
