The Lowdown
Alright, mates, grab your boards and let's see what this stretch has in store for us. We've got a bit of a slow burner on our hands, but there are a couple of moments that could really light up.
The next week or so is looking pretty lackluster, to be honest. There's a lot of small, short-period swell and average conditions. We'll see waves, but they'll be a bit of a chore to get something out of. The wind will be all over the place, too. Don't get too excited for the early session; Saturday the 22nd is a complete write-off with tiny surf and a nasty onshore breeze. Same goes for most of Sunday. We might get a little something on Sunday morning, but it's not worth the paddle.
We have a bit of a wait for the standout. Most of the first week is just treading water. Keep your eyes on the forecast for Monday the 1st of September. Tuesday afternoon is where it starts to get interesting. There's a real push of south swell coming, around 6ft, and for a point break like Marley, that's got some push to it. The wind is set to be light and offshore, which will keep the face clean for the take-off. The wave energy is strong, which confirms there's some proper grunt in the water. This is the best combination of size and clean conditions we see in the whole window, so it's the one to pencil in. The next day, Wednesday the 2nd, that same south swell is still there, but that classic south wind kicks up and chops it all to pieces.
The real big, serious swell is reserved for the end of the run. On Friday the 4th of September, we've got a solid 10ft of south swell hitting, with light offshore winds in the morning. The wave energy is massive. This isn't for the faint of heart, though. That size is way over the heads and only going to be for the experienced crew out at Marley. It's still a bit of a distant promise, a week and a half out, so we'll have to see how it shapes up, but signs are pointing to a serious day. If you need a bigger board or are a bit newer to this, definitely give that one a miss. After that, the swell backs right down and the wind turns onshore again for the weekend.
So, to sum it up: the early week is mostly a dud. Circle Tuesday the 1st of September afternoon as your first real chance to get a good one. And keep an eye on that Friday the 4th for the experts—that could be a proper session if it lines up. It's a waiting game for the most part, but there are some gems buried in there. It won't stay flat for long.
