Alright, Rusty here. Let’s cut through it and talk about what we’ve actually got on the table for Marley (Garie-Point) over this 16-day stretch. It’s a long haul with plenty of ups and downs, so keep your eyes peeled for the few windows that are worth your time.
Right off the bat, the water’s sitting at about 66°, pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there. The setup at Marley is a very consistent point break for advanced surfers, and it’s exposed to the swell, preferring it from the SE. That’s going to be key for the best sessions.
The first real sniff of decent surf doesn’t come until Saturday the 11th, but we’ve got a gap before then. From the start through to Friday morning the 10th, it’s mostly a write-off. We’re looking at lumpy, choppy, and cross-onshore winds plastered over solid waves—8 ft to 10 ft of swell—but the conditions are just plain ugly for paddle surfing. Strong winds from the south and SSE make it a mess. If you’re into kiting, the beach-and-reef setup might be more interesting during that stretch, but for a surfer? Not worth it.
There’s a few marginal moments midweek, especially Wednesday morning the 8th, where you get a 10 ft SSE swell with a moderate cross-shore wind (15 mph), and the combined energy is pumping at 3260. But it’s still lumpy with cross-chop. It’s a maybe for a crew that’s hungry, but don’t get too excited.
Now, the standout. Saturday morning the 11th is your best bet. The swell has dropped to a solid 5 ft from the SE with a 10-second period, and the wind goes offshore from the NW at 9 mph. Gentle offshore, clean surf—that’s the gold right there. The combined energy is at 463, which is decent for a point break like Marley. Get out there early. It’s the best on offer, hands down. Crowds can pop up here sometimes, so be ready to share the peak.
Saturday afternoon the 11th is still clean with lighter cross-off winds and 5 ft swell, but it’s a step down. Sunday the 12th drops off to 3 ft, and from there it’s a slow fade to tiny waves through most of the second week. The 1 ft and 0.7 ft days are practically flat.
Late in the period, around Saturday the 18th morning, we get a late pulse: 6 ft from the SSW (short 7-second period) with clean cross-off winds. The combined energy is 385. It’s surfable but not a gem. But watch out—Saturday afternoon the 18th and Sunday the 19th blow up to 15 ft and 16 ft of south swell. That’s way too big for Marley, and the guidance says the same. That’s expert-only, and honestly, it’s more of a spectacle than a session for most. Combined energy hits 5451 on Sunday morning—that’s massive. But if you’re not a charger, stay out.
This is a point break, so when that long-period groundswell shows up (like the 20-second period on the 15th), it’s only 0.7 ft to 1 ft, so don’t get your hopes up.
So to sum it: Saturday the 11th is the clear winner. The rest is a lot of waiting and wind. On the bright side, Marley is very consistent, so it won’t stay quiet forever—forecasts can change. But for this 16-day window, you’re really hunting for that one morning.
Rusty.
