The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for this spot. The next 16 days have a bit of a slow start, but there’s a serious pulse of swell building for the end of the run that’s got my heart racing.

We’re looking at a solid run of surf kicking off Monday morning, July 20th, at Marley (Garie-Point). The overall pattern starts with a clean, offshore NW breeze that’s going to make the 6ft of ENE swell look really tidy. That swell is packing moderate energy (945) and an 11-second period, which is a proper groundswell. This is a point break, so that long period is a big plus, giving you long, lined-up walls. The water temp is 65°, which is about normal for this time of year.

Monday morning is your standout for the first week. That 6ft swell with light offshore wind is a recipe for clean, rippable waves. However, keep in mind that Marley can get crowded sometimes, so get out there early for the best of it.

The surf then eases off into the middle of the week. Tuesday, July 21st, still has a good 5ft under a NNW offshore breeze, but the energy drops to 538. By Wednesday, July 22nd, we’re down to 3ft, but the afternoon goes glassy, which is a classic for a fun little session.

We hit a bit of a lull and a wind shift from Thursday, July 24th, through the weekend. The swell direction swings to the S, and the wind gets messy. Friday, July 25th, has a 5ft S swell with a 10-second period, but the wind is cross-offshore, so it’s not the cleanest. The weekend of the 26th and 27th is a write-off with strong cross-onshore winds and raw swell.

Now, hold onto your boards. The real standout is a massive pulse of S swell that hits the first weekend of August. It’s a long way out, so it’s promising but not set in stone. Saturday, August 1st, kicks off with a 10ft S swell, but the wind is messy. The afternoon goes ballistic with a 13ft S swell, and the combined energy is a massive 2644. That’s *very* strong wave energy. This is expert territory, way too big for beginners. The wind is cross-onshore, so it’ll be lumpy, but for the big wave chargers, that’s a full-on mission.

The absolute best of the whole outlook is Sunday morning, August 2nd. We’ve got a 10ft S swell, but the wind switches to a clean, offshore NW. The energy is still huge at 1847. This is a point break, so that long period S swell will be groomed into perfection by the offshore wind. It’s an excellent call for experienced surfers only. The afternoon still holds size, but the wind goes cross-shore.

The run ends on Monday, August 3rd, with a 7ft swell, but a strong SSW wind at 25 mph and rain will ruin it. Stick to the Sunday morning session for the best of the big stuff.

Rusty, signing off.
