The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaking over the next couple of weeks at this spot.
First up, it’s a bit of a slow start. We’ve got a solid pulse of energy rolling in on Thursday the 16th, with a south swell pumping at around 6.6ft and a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is a moderate 488, but the wind is a frustrating cross-onshore at 25 km/h from the south, making it a lumpy, choppy mess. The water temp is sitting at 63.3°, which is about average for this time of year. Friday the 17th is even less inspiring, with the swell dropping and the wind staying messy and onshore. The whole first weekend looks pretty ordinary.
We’ve got a gap of a few days where the quality is poor, but things start to turn around on Monday the 20th. By Monday morning, a nice long-period groundswell from the east-northeast rolls in at 5.2ft and a juicy 10-second period. The combined energy is a solid 651. The wind swings offshore from the northwest, light at 10 km/h, so the setup at Garie Beach is looking clean. Tuesday the 21st continues with similar vibes, though the swell drops a little. This is the first real window for a decent paddle.
Now, the real standout. Look ahead to Wednesday the 29th of July. This is the one to circle on the calendar. A solid south swell is forecast to push in at 8.2ft with a period of 9 seconds, delivering a strong 1088 combined energy. The wind is light and offshore from the northwest in the morning, swinging to a light cross-offshore in the afternoon. For the experienced crew, this will be excellent, but at 8.2ft, you’ve got to be comfortable out there. It’s not for the groms or the weekend warriors. This is the best of the entire 16-day window without a doubt.
After that, the end of the month starts to get messy again. Thursday the 30th and Friday the 31st see the swell hanging in, but the wind turns onshore and cranks up to 30 km/h. That's going to blow it out and turn the surf into a bumpy mess. That Wednesday the 29th is your window – don’t sleep on it.
Short Range ForecastModerate rain (total 13mm), heaviest on Thu night. Very mild (max 15°C on Thu morning, min 13°C on Thu night).
