The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's cooking at Tallebudgera.
Right off the bat, the next week and a half are a bit of a write-off for us. The swell is either too small or way too big and messy, and the wind is just not playing ball. We're looking at a whole lot of lumpy, cross-shore chop from Tuesday the 14th all the way through to the end of the week. The water temp is sitting at a pretty average 69°F for this time of year, so nothing weird there.
The real problem is the big stuff rolling in from the 16th of July onwards. We’re seeing a massive pulse of energy, with combined swell energy readings hitting 1774, and then 5306 on the 19th. That's a lot of water moving, but with swell heights hitting 12 ft to 16 ft and a cross-shore wind, it's just a washing machine. This is expert-only territory, and even then, the quality is poor. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing on those days.
The good news is, after that chaos, things start to settle. We've got a run of marginal, lumpy days from the 20th to the 24th, but nothing to get excited about. The standout window is the weekend of the 25th and 26th of July. Saturday morning the 25th is looking like a proper treat. The wind swings around to a light, cross-offshore breeze from the Northwest at 6 mph, and the swell is a solid 8 ft out of the ESE. Combined energy is a strong 1661, and the period is a long 12 seconds. That's a groundswell with real punch. At Tallebudgera, a breakwater setup, that long period swell will wrap in nicely. It's a bit big for beginners, but for the experienced crew, it's going to be clean, powerful, and the standout of the whole forecast.
Then Sunday the 26th of July morning is another gem. The wind drops to nothing, glassy conditions, with a 8 ft ESE swell at 11 seconds. That's an easy paddle out with clean, lined-up waves. Another top pick.
After that, the swell dips a little into the 6 ft to 8 ft range with offshore winds on the 27th, 28th, and 29th, so there are clean waves to be had, but the energy drops off. The 29th of July sees a clean 4 ft swell with a moderate offshore wind, which is a nice little finish to the period.
So, bottom line: you've got a long wait for it, but the 25th and 26th of July are the clear winners. Get out there.
Rusty.
