Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tallebudgera over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ at Tallebudgera for the next couple weeks. It’s a real patience game, with a long slog of nothing much, then one little window where it all clicks.
The pattern is clear: a whole heap of small or wind-chopped surf, then a solid pulse of energy that gets ruined by the wind. The one true highlight is a short, glassy morning that’s worth gettin’ wet for.
We start off with a whisper of surf. Sunday the 12th morning has the best of the early stuff: a 1.1m swell from the SE, 11-second period, with a cross-off WNW breeze at 15 km/h. It’s clean, with some energy (298), but it’s not exactly firing. The afternoon drops to 0.9m, still clean but very average.
Monday the 13th morning is tiny – just 0.6m from the ESE, but the wind is glassy out of the E. That wind is a treat, but the swell is weak, only 78 energy. It’s a glass-off for a log.
Then we hit a long, ugly spell. From Monday afternoon all the way through to Thursday the 16th morning, it’s poor. The swell jumps to 3.0m, then 4.0m from the SSE, but the wind goes nasty cross-onshore and strong, just wreckin’ it. That 4.5m swell on Saturday the 18th is packing massive energy (3616 and 4632), but the cross-onshore wind at 25 km/h makes it a mess. This run of big, blown-out surf lasts right through Sunday the 19th, which is still cross-onshore and lumpy.
Now for the real deal. Tuesday the 21st morning is the standout. You’ve got a clean 2.3m groundswell from the SE, with a 12-second period. The magic is the wind: dead calm from the SSW, 0 km/h. That’s glassy conditions with solid energy at 1619. This one’s for the experienced crew – 2.3m is gettin’ a bit heavy. The swell direction (SE) lines up well with the optimum (SSE) for this breakwater spot. It’s clean, powerful, and that long period will make for some proper lines. Water temp is about what you’d expect for this time of year.
After that, it drops off. Wednesday the 22nd morning is okay at 1.7m with a light cross-shore, but the wind turns onshore and it gets messy. Friday the 24th morning has a clean 1.1m from the SE with a glassy NNE breeze – another clean, small session with moderate energy (342). Not a standout, but it’s clean. Sunday the 26th morning has a clean little 0.7m groundswell from the ESE with a long 13-second period and a cross-off wind, but it’s tiny.
Bottom line: the best on offer is that Tuesday the 21st morning. It’s glassy, solid groundswell from the right direction. The first week is a write-off for anything decent, and the second week has a few clean moments but nothing with that kind of power. This spot can be inconsistent, and crowds are possible, but if you snag that Tuesday morning, you’ll be stoked. For those big, windy days later on, the setup looks more like kite-surfing territory than stickin’ a paddle in.
Keep your eyes on the forecast, boys.
Rusty.
