The Lowdown
Alright crew, Rusty here. Let's break down what Tallebudgera is offering up over the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, it's looking like a long, quiet stretch ahead. We’ve got a solid gap of poor-quality surf for the first week or more. The water temp’s around 68°F, pretty average for the season, so at least you won't be freezing while you wait for something to happen.
The first sniff of anything vaguely surfable comes Saturday morning, August 22. We're talking tiny 3ft waves from the ENE, with a short, weak period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is weak (93), so it’s pretty gutless. The wind is light and offshore from the NW, so the surface will be clean. It’s still very average, but if you’re desperate for a little longboard session, you could give it a crack.
Sunday the 23rd sees a tiny bump in energy (124), but the wind swings onshore from the SE, chopping it right up. The whole following week is plagued by poor conditions with small, weak swell. The best look is Wednesday morning, August 26, when a light W offshore wind cleans up some 4ft, 8-second ENE swell (217 energy). Still just ordinary waves though, nothing special.
Right at the tail end, Sunday morning, August 30, the size bumps up to around 5ft from the SE, but the period drops to a weak 6 seconds. The wind is offshore from the SSW, so it’ll be clean looking, but that short period means it’s going to be a lumpy, weak mess.
Scrolling through the whole 16 days, there’s just no standout session. The swell direction is always from the east or southeast, which is alright for the break, but the size is tiny and the consistency is poor. If you’re really keen for a paddle, the cleanest windows are that Saturday morning (22nd), Wednesday morning (26th), and maybe the Sunday morning (30th), but keep your expectations low.
Rusty.
