Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way.
Right off the bat, we’ve got some small but clean surf to kick things off this Saturday morning. Cabarita’s pulling in a 2 ft swell from the ESE with a 10-second period, and the wind’s a light cross-off from the south. The water’s sitting at 71°, which is pretty much dead average for this time of year, so nothing to shock the system. The combined energy is moderate at 221, but it’s a point break that’s consistent and exposed, so it’ll be rideable for beginners. Crowds are likely, though, so get in early if you want a quiet one.
Saturday afternoon sees a bit more size at 3 ft, but the wind swings cross-shore and the conditions get a touch lumpy. Not the best call for the later session.
Sunday morning brings a clean 4 ft swell from the south at 10 seconds, with a solid cross-off breeze from the SSW. The energy’s picked up to 451 (moderate), and the point will be handling it well. The afternoon, though, gets a bit messy with rain showers and a short-period, wind-affected 6 ft swell from the SSE at only 6 seconds – that’s a choppy one, better left alone.
Monday and Tuesday are for the more experienced crew. Monday morning sees 8 ft from the SSE at 8 seconds, but the cross-shore wind kicks up a chop. The energy’s strong at 1139, but the quality’s marginal. Tuesday’s a step up: 8-10 ft from the SSE with a 10-second period, clean cross-off winds – the energy gets serious, peaking at 1652 on Tuesday afternoon. That’s solid groundswell territory, but over 8 ft means it’s expert-only. If you’re not confident, sit this one out.
Wednesday, 8th of July, is a standout. Wednesday morning we’ve got 10 ft from the SSE at an 11-second period, clean cross-off wind, and a massive 3963 combined energy – that’s very strong, powerful stuff. The period’s long enough for proper groundswell, but at a point break like Cabarita, it’ll be lining up nicely. This is the pick of the whole run for the experienced surfer. Crowds will be inevitable given the quality.
Thursday and Friday stay in the 7 ft to 10 ft range, mostly clean, with cross-off winds. The energy dips a bit but stays strong. Friday morning, 10th of July, gets a mention with 7 ft SSE swell at 10 seconds, light cross-off breeze, and the comment says “very good surf conditions” – that’s a solid session for strong intermediates.
By Saturday, 11th of July, the size drops to 5-6 ft, still clean and cross-off. Good, but not the standout.
Now, Sunday the 12th is something special for the morning. We’ve got a tiny 2 ft from the SE at 10 seconds, but the wind is glassy – dead calm. That’s as clean as it gets. Perfect for a longboard or a funboard. The point will be silky. Get out there early before the wind turns onshore in the afternoon.
Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th are a real lull. Monday’s a write-off with poor conditions and weak energy around 140-153. Tuesday morning’s a bit better with a 2 ft clean offshore from the west, but the energy’s only 60 – very weak. Tuesday afternoon picks up slightly to 4 ft with a clean offshore, but the period’s a short 7 seconds. Not much to write home about.
Wednesday the 15th through Saturday the 19th sees a return of solid, consistent swell. We’re back to 6-10 ft from the SSE, mostly clean with cross-off winds. The energy’s strong again – up to 1883 on Wednesday afternoon. The period hangs around 9-11 seconds, so it’s proper groundswell. The morning of Sunday the 19th has 6 ft at an 11-second period, clean, with moderate energy (953) and a “very good surf conditions” note. That’s a solid end to the run.
Overall, the best wave of the period is Wednesday morning, 8th of July – big, powerful, clean, and lined up on the point. For the smaller-wave crew, Sunday morning, 12th of July, is your glassy gem. Everything in between is good to excellent for the confident surfer, but the second week (from the 13th onward) has a couple of flat days before it fires back up.
