Table - best surf conditions forecast for North Haven over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what North Haven has cookin’ over the next couple of weeks. This break is a beach/breakwater setup, exposed to swell, and it’s a very consistent spot, so there’s nearly always something to look at. That said, the first few days are pretty average, then things get messy with some serious size before a late window of proper clean waves shows up.
Alright, let’s get into it. For the first standout, Saturday the 11th of July morning is the real gem early on. We’ve got a clean 3ft swell from the ESE with a long 12-second period, and combined wave energy is a solid moderate 517. The wind is glassy, dead calm out of the NW at 3 mph – that’s about as good as it gets for a clean surface. Water temp is sitting at 67°, pretty much spot on average for this time of year. This is a beginner-friendly break, and with those conditions, it’s a perfect time for a learner to get out there. Crowds can show up sometimes, but with the surf being small and clean, you might have company.
Saturday afternoon and Sunday are forgettable – the wind swings around onshore or cross-off, and the surf gets smaller and messier. Monday and Tuesday mornings have tiny knee-high leftovers with weak energy in the 80–115 range. Not worth paddling out for unless you’re desperate.
Now, Wednesday the 15th of July things change fast. A big S swell pushes in, hitting 8ft in the morning with a short 8-second period and strong energy of 897. The wind is fresh offshore at 19 mph, so it’ll be clean, but that size is already getting into expert territory. By the afternoon, it’s 12ft from the south with combined energy of 2093 – that’s strong energy. That’s far too big for beginners and only for very experienced surfers. This is a beach/breakwater, so with that much swell and short period, it’s going to be a washing machine. Honestly, with the wind and size, it’s looking more like a kite-surfing setup than a paddle session. Thursday and Friday stay oversized, with 8ft to 10ft, and the wind is cross-off from the SSE at 12–16 mph. The energy stays strong, in the 1000–1300 range. Still only for experts, and the chop will be challenging.
The second standout comes much later, on Monday the 20th of July morning. The swell is a solid 10ft from the east, with a 12-second period, and combined energy is a massive 2789 – very strong energy. The wind is calm, glassy, dead calm at 0 mph. That’s a rare combo – big, clean, and glassy. But it’s big, so this is for experienced surfers only. The east direction and long period mean the wave quality might be better than the short-period S swells earlier. Still, at a beach break, a 12-second period can make things a bit straight, so it’s more about power than shape. Tuesday morning the 21st of July also looks solid: 8ft from the east with a 12-second period, offshore wind from the SW at 9 mph, and energy of 2071. That’s another excellent session for the crew who can handle it.
After that, the swell hangs around in the 8ft to 10ft range through the rest of the week, mostly from the south, with offshore winds. The best of that late run is Thursday the 23rd of July afternoon: 8ft from the south, 10-second period, light cross-off wind, and energy of 1797. That’s clean and manageable for strong intermediates to experts. Friday the 24th of July morning drops to 7ft from the south with a short 8-second period and glassy wind – energy is moderate at 977, so still fun, but the period is short so it’ll be a bit crumbly. By the weekend of the 26th of July, the swell backs down into the 4ft to 6ft range with cleaner ESE swell and glassy wind on Sunday morning. That’s a nice little window for beginners and intermediates again.
Overall, the best of the whole period is unquestionably Monday the 20th of July morning – big, glassy, and powerful. That’s a proper standout for the experienced crew. Second best is the early Saturday the 11th of July morning for the smaller, glassy conditions that everyone can enjoy.
Stay safe out there.
Rusty.
