The Lowdown
Alright, let's break this down in the old standard units, same story, different numbers.
We got some real good stuff on the menu straight away. The early week is the highlight, with a sweet SE swell hitting North Haven. The water temp is about 66°, which is dead normal for this time of year.
For Monday the 17th, the morning is the only show in town. You got a clean 5ft SE swell, period around 7 seconds, and a light cross-off breeze. The ocean's got a solid push with moderate energy (540). The afternoon gets choppy, so get out there early.
Tuesday the 18th, another cracker morning. Glossy, clean conditions with a 4ft ESE swell, period at 8 seconds. The energy is still solid (372). Dead glass, mate.
Wednesday the 19th, same deal. A glassy 5ft ESE swell, period stretching out to 10 seconds. The longer period will give you better, more drawn-out waves. Energy is there (438). Mornings are gold.
Now, from Thursday the 20th through Sunday the 23rd, it's a flat spell. Swell drops right off, tiny waves, messy winds. You're looking at a good four days of nothing.
Then, Monday the 24th, a weird one. Tiny swell, maybe 1ft to 2ft, but with a massive 19-second period. The ocean cleans right up and gets glassy, and the energy is back to moderate (248 to 341). Super clean but small.
From Tuesday the 25th to Thursday the 27th, we have a run of small but clean surf, 2ft to 3ft out of the S, with offshore or cross-off winds. Solid energy readings (193 to 348). Good for a cruise.
Now here's a late standout. Friday the 28th of August. The morning sees a spike to a head-high 6ft NE windswell with a short 6-second period, but the wind is dead calm and glassy. The energy is solid (326). This is the big surprise of the forecast. Get in the water. Saturday the 29th keeps it going with a clean 6ft NE swell in the morning and glassy conditions. Energy is high (414).
The final few days from Sunday the 30th through Tuesday the 1st of September go back to onshore slop. The swell is still there, but the quality is gone.
So, the plan is simple: the absolute best of the bunch is the first three mornings – Monday 17th, Tuesday 18th, and Wednesday 19th. Clean, fun, consistent. The other big one to watch is that glassy Friday morning on the 28th of August.
Rusty.
