The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's get into it.
Well, truth be told, it's a pretty bleak run of it for the next couple of weeks. The only spot that's even showing up on the radar is Trapdoors, a point/river break that likes the swell from the southeast. The water temperature is sitting right around 68°, which is bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The wave energy is weak for the most part, with a combined energy reading of just 74 (weak energy) to start, and it barely climbs above moderate for the whole period. We're looking at a lot of small, weak swell running between 1ft and 3ft, with periods mostly under 10 seconds, so it's pretty gutless. The best of the bunch is going to be Monday, August 24th. The morning session is where it's at: glassy conditions with the wind dropping to zero, a 3ft swell from the southeast, and the combined energy just creeping into moderate territory at 182. It's surfable, but it's ordinary. That afternoon, the wind swings onshore and kills it.
There's a long gap of nothing really worth mentioning after that. The next little flicker of hope comes in on Saturday, August 29th. The morning is glassy again with a 3ft swell from the south-southeast, and the afternoon stays clean with a light cross-off breeze. The energy is still moderate, around 186. Again, it's marginal, but it's the cleanest you'll see it.
After that, it's a wasteland. The wind gets nasty, the swell stays small, and the energy drops back into weak territory. The long period swell (15 seconds) that shows up on September 5th is a tease but it's only 1ft and the wind is onshore, so it's a no-go. For a spot that's fairly consistent, this is a rough patch. Honestly, with the small swell and strong cross-off winds later on, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Rusty.
