The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's lined up for the next few weeks at Seven Mile Beach.
First thing you gotta know, we're not exactly spoiled for choice right now. The water temp is sitting at 66°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you won't need the thickest rubber. The swell energy is moderate at best, but it's a bit of a messy start.
Friday morning, July 24th, kicks off with a 5ft south swell, period around 9 seconds. The wind is a light cross-shore from the WSW at 6 mph, which isn't terrible, but the forecast is calling it marginal. It's a bit lumpy, and honestly, it's not going to get you too excited. The afternoon is similar, with a 5ft south swell, but the wind swings onshore, making it even less appealing.
Saturday, July 25th, is your best bet in the first week. The morning has a 5ft south swell with a 10-second period and a clean cross-offshore breeze from the west at 6 mph. This is the standout for the first few days. The afternoon cleans up even more, with a 4ft south swell, but the energy drops off. Still, it's a nice window for a beginner-friendly session.
Sunday, July 26th, the swell picks back up to 6ft in the morning, which is a bit more size, but the wind is cross-shore and the conditions are still described as marginal. The afternoon drops to 5ft with an easterly cross-shore. Not great, not terrible.
After that, it's a real struggle. From Monday, July 27th, through to the end of the month, the swell drops off hard. We're looking at tiny, weak waves, mostly under 3ft, with a lot of onshore or poor wind. The energy levels barely register. There's a long stretch of just flat, choppy, or poor surf. It's a real bummer.
The first week of August isn't much better. The swell is small and inconsistent. There's a glimmer on Saturday, August 8th, with a 4ft south swell and a long 12-second period, and the wind is glassy in the morning. That's a promising long-range call, but it's a long way out. That long period will make for some nice lines if it holds, but it's a bit of a gamble this far out.
Overall, for a beginner spot like Seven Mile Beach, the surf is mostly poor or marginal. The best of the lot is Saturday morning, July 25th. The rest of the window is a write-off until maybe that Saturday, August 8th, which is promising but uncertain.
Rusty.
