The Lowdown

Righto, folks, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s happening with Seven Mile Beach over the next couple of weeks.

First off, I’ve got to be straight with you: the next few days are a bit of a write-off. We’re looking at a block of poor to marginal conditions right through Tuesday and Wednesday, with some proper lumpy, choppy onshore wind. The swell is there, but it’s messy. The water temp is sitting at 64°, which is about normal for the time of year, nothing weird there.

The first real chance to get a clean wave comes late in the week. Thursday the 12th morning is the standout. We’ve got a clean, cross-off breeze from the NNE, and the swell is 4 ft from the SSE with a period of 11 seconds. That’s a decent groundswell with good energy (495). The combined energy is moderate, and the waves will be clean, which is a massive plus. This is your best bet for a proper surf.

Friday the 13th morning is also clean, but the swell drops to 3 ft from the south. It’s surfable, but ordinary. The light winds will keep it glassy, just not much push.

The next real highlight is a week later, on Wednesday the 16th morning. Glassy conditions, with a 3 ft south swell, 11-second period, and clean glassy conditions. That’s another moment to circle.

By Saturday the 19th, we get a shift in swell direction from the NE, but it’s short period (7 seconds) and only 4 ft. The morning looks clean, but that short-period swell won’t have much shape.

Overall, the pick of the fortnight is Thursday the 12th morning. The clean offshore wind and that 4 ft south swell should give you some fun, lined-up waves. It’s a consistent spot, but you might see a few others out there, as crowds can show up. The swell direction isn’t perfect for the break’s optimum, but the clean conditions make up for it.

Rusty.
