The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. This is your local surf outlook for the next 16 days, starting now.
First up, we’ve got Fullers, a reef break that’s for advanced crew only. It’s inconsistent, so it doesn’t pump every day, but when it lines up, it can be a gem. The water is sitting at 56°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year – about 3° cooler, so you’ll want a decent spring suit.
The forecast window kicks off Thursday, July 16th, but honestly, the first few days are a bit of a write-off. Thursday morning has a clean 5ft cross-off swell from the NW, but the energy is weak (580) and the period is short, so it’s not holding much shape. Afternoon drops right off to a tiny 1ft. Friday is similar – 5ft, but the wind is cross-shore and the conditions are choppy, with marginal energy. Saturday sees a drop in size to 3ft, with a long period from the SW giving it some glide, but the wind is light and cross-shore, so it’s not really pulling together.
Sunday, July 19th, is where things start to look a little more interesting. The swell picks up to 4ft from the S, with a solid 14-15 second period and moderate energy (1207-1324). The wind is light and cross-shore, so it’s clean but not glassy. Still, the conditions are marginal – a bit of a tease.
The real standout comes on Tuesday, July 21st. That morning is the pick of the entire forecast. Glassy conditions, with a light 5 km/h offshore from the SSW, and a clean 4ft swell from the same direction, with a period of 14 seconds. The energy is moderate (702) but the wind is perfect – you’ll be surfing clean, lined-up waves at Fullers. This is the moment to be in the water. The break is exposed to SW swell, and this SSW direction is bang on for optimum. Keep in mind it’s inconsistent and advanced, so you need to be sharp, but on a day like this, it’s worth the wait.
After that, the surf drops back into a marginal zone for the rest of the week, with smaller swells in the 3ft to 3ft range and cross-onshore winds. The period stays long, but the energy is low and the quality is just not there.
Now, jumping into the second week, there’s another possible standout. Monday, July 27th. The morning looks excellent for experienced surfers. A 4ft swell from the SSW, with a 18-second period, gives it serious grunt and energy (1307). The wind is light and cross-off from the NW, so conditions will be clean, and the waves should have a proper shape. This is a long-range call, so it’s a bit less certain, but it’s promising. The afternoon is a bit windier with 25 km/h cross-off, so the morning is the window.
The rest of the second week fades back into small, cross-shore, marginal conditions. The energy is moderate, but the swell is mostly under 3ft and the wind isn’t clean.
Overall, the best bet is Tuesday morning, July 21st at Fullers – glassy, clean, and a solid 4ft SSW swell. Keep an eye on Monday morning, July 27th as a promising long-range option. The first few days and the middle of the second week are quiet, so don’t bother unless you’re desperate for a paddle.
