Alright folks, Rusty here with the long-range look for the Fullers reef break.
Alright, so we've got a bit of a slow burner on our hands for Fullers. Over the next 16 days, there's surf on offer, but nothing that's screaming "drop everything and go." We're looking at a lot of days with small to moderate swell, and the wind is often cross or cross-off, which keeps things clean-ish, but there's not a lot of juice in the water for this exposed SW-facing reef. The best bet looks like being that mid-week window.
Starting off on Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th, it's small. You're looking at waves around 4 ft to 4 ft from the SSW with a very long 18 to 19 second period – that's a serious groundswell, but it's lacking size. The combined swell energy is moderate to strong (1350 on Tuesday morning) but the scores are low. The wind is a moderate cross-off, so the lineup will be clean, but it's just not breaking with any real power for an advanced spot like this.
The first real change comes Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th, as the swell direction swings around to the NW. On Thursday morning we get 6 ft from the NW, but the period drops to a short 9 seconds, which is a windswell. The combined energy is still moderate (1021). By Friday morning, it's a similar story with 6 ft from the WNW. The wind stays cross-off, keeping it clean. Late Friday afternoon the swell bumps up to 7 ft, but again, it's that short-period stuff. It’s surfable, but a bit lumpy and not the shape you'd hope for on a reef.
Then we hit a bit of a lull. Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th see the swell drop back under 3 ft and the wind goes more cross, chopping things up a little. Not worth paddling out for.
Now, the standout window appears around Wednesday the 15th of July. Wednesday morning is looking tidy. We’ve got 6 ft from the NW, with glassy conditions and light winds. The combined energy is moderate (704), and importantly, the conditions are described as "glassy," which is a massive plus for a reef. That'll be clean, lined-up waves. The swell is just under the "too big for beginners" threshold at 6 ft, so it's a good size for strong intermediates and up. Wednesday afternoon pushes up to 8 ft from the NW, which is getting towards the expert range, but the wind goes cross, and the short period (9 seconds) might make it a bit unruly.
After that, we've got a string of clean, cross-off mornings from Thursday the 16th through to Friday the 17th, with consistent 5 ft to 6 ft NW swell and a short period. It's all clean and surfable, but nothing that will blow your mind.
Looking further ahead, the morning of Sunday the 19th looks promising with a glassy 3 ft from the WNW sporting a very long 16-second period. That's a beautiful groundswell, but the size is tiny. For a reef, the long period will be great for shape, but you'll be scratching for a ride. After that, the energy and swell size drop right off into the end of the period, with lots of small, weak swell below 3 ft.
So, the overall call? Wednesday the 15th of July morning is the standout. That glassy session with a clean 6 ft NW swell is your best shot at something memorable. The rest of the week is a solid, clean grind but not a classic. Crowds are a possibility here, so if you see it glassy, get out there quick.
Rusty.
