Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fullers over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s coming for Fullers over the next couple of weeks.
First off, the start of the window is a slow grind. The water temp is 58°, right around average for this time of year, nothing strange.
Tuesday morning the 7th brings a 4ft SSW groundswell with a super long 19-second period. That much energy is notable, with combined energy at 1350 (moderate). Problem is, the wind is cross-shore from the WNW at 15 km/h, so there’s a bit of chop. Tuesday afternoon cleans up with a cross-offshore breeze, but the swell drops to 3ft. Wednesday the 8th is similar: clean lines with 3ft SSW swell and a period around 16-18 seconds, but it’s still just marginal.
Thursday the 9th is where it gets interesting. Swell builds from 6ft in the morning to 7ft by the afternoon from the NW. Period drops to 9 seconds, so it’s a shorter-period wind swell. Combined energy is strong (1040-1153). Wind holds cross-offshore from the NW at 20 km/h, keeping things reasonably clean. That 7ft is pushing into expert territory on a reef, so beginners, sit this one out. This is probably the best session of the first week for the advanced crew.
Friday the 10th through Sunday the 12th stays in the 5ft to 6ft range, mostly NW wind swell with periods around 8-9 seconds. Winds are light to moderate cross-shore. It’s consistent but nothing to get hyped about.
Then it fades. Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th see the swell drop under 3ft, with combined energy falling into the 200-500 range (weak to weak-moderate). The long-period SSW groundswell pops up again briefly on the 14th afternoon (2ft, 12 seconds), but it’s weak.
The second week starts looking up around Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th. Wednesday morning has 5ft NW swell, period 8 seconds, clean cross-offshore wind – forecast says “expect good surf conditions,” and I buy that. But the real gem of the whole 16-day outlook? That’s Sunday the 19th. Glassy conditions in the morning, with a 2ft SW groundswell rolling in at a very long 17-second period. Combined energy is moderate at 727. It’s small, but glassy and lined up – gold for a reef like Fullers. Keep in mind, Fullers is inconsistent, so be ready to wait. And expect a few other surfers around; crowds are possible.
After that, Monday the 20th through Wednesday the 22nd fades back to small SSW swell, 2-3ft, with clean winds but dropping energy. The 22nd turns ugly with a cross-onshore SSE wind making it choppy – forget about it.
So here’s the deal: Thursday the 9th has the biggest swell of the window – 7ft NW at 9 seconds – but it’s experts only. For a clean, quality session that’s more manageable, aim for Sunday morning the 19th: glassy, small, and long-period. The rest is a mixed bag of average to marginal.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
