The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it for Steamer Lane-The Slot. The next ten days or so are looking pretty average – small, mostly onshore wind, and not a lot of punch. The swell is living in the 2ft to 3ft range, with a few 3ft+ bumps here and there. The combined energy numbers are mostly in the low hundreds, like 537, 574, 534 – that’s weak to moderate. Nothing to get excited about. Water temp is 60°F, which is about 3°F warmer than normal for this time of year – a nice little warm patch.
The first real standout comes on Sunday, July 26th in the afternoon. The wind goes dead calm – glassy, flat, perfect. The swell is 3ft from the SSW, with a period of 19 seconds – that’s long-period groundswell, proper energy. Combined energy is 887 – moderate, but with that long period, it’ll have some real push. On a reef like this, that long period is a big help – it’ll wrap in and give you nice, clean lines. The size is small, but it’ll be pure. Crowds are often here, so you’ll have company.
Monday, July 27th morning nudges up to 4ft from the SSW, period 18 seconds, combined energy 1064 – a bit more size, but the wind is light cross-onshore, so not as clean. The afternoon jumps to 4ft and energy 1232, but with a cross-shore breeze, it’s a bit chop-prone.
Tuesday, July 28th afternoon is the biggest we’ll see – 4ft from the SSW, period 18 seconds, energy 1333. But again, cross-onshore wind. For experts, it’s doable, but not the best.
After that, from July 29th through to August 2nd, the swell drops back to 3ft to 3ft, with periods falling from 16 seconds down to 11 seconds. The energy fades into the 300s and 400s – weak. Wind stays onshore or cross-onshore. It’s a long, flat run after that Sunday glass.
So, the best bet is Sunday, July 26th afternoon – glassy, clean, long-period. Second choice is Monday, July 27th morning for a little more size. The rest is just small and marginal.
Get on that Sunday glass.
Rusty.
