Alright folks, Rusty here, pulling up a chair and looking at the next couple of weeks for our local playground. This is Steamer Lane-The-Slot, and we've got a bit of a mixed bag coming our way.

The forecast kicks off with some real small stuff. The first few days, from Sunday the 12th through Monday the 13th, are pretty lackluster. We're looking at tiny 2ft to 3ft swells from the SSW, which is light, and the water temp is sitting at a noticeable 60°F, a touch warmer than usual for this time of year. The overall wave energy is moderate, around the 400 mark (447), but the quality just isn't there for a proper session. You'd be fighting for scraps.

Tuesday the 14th afternoon is where things start to perk up. The swell drops in at 4ft from the WNW with a short 8-second period, but here's the kicker: it goes glassy. That offshore, clean glass is a huge positive, and the combined energy climbs to a moderate 386. It’s not a massive day, but for a summer evening session, that clean surface will be worth the paddle.

Wednesday the 15th brings a real surge in energy. The morning swell jumps to 5ft from the NW with an energy reading of 644, but it's cross-onshore and a bit messy. By the afternoon, the wind picks up from the WNW and it gets choppier, with the energy dropping to 492. A solid wall of water, but not the cleanest shape.

Now, hold onto your boards for Thursday the 16th morning. We’ve got a 8ft swell from the NW, pumping in with a whopping 1574 in combined energy. That’s strong wave energy, folks. This is big and powerful. Period is 9 seconds, so it's got some push, but with the cross-onshore breeze (6 mph from the WNW), it’s going to be a handful. At 8ft, this is strictly for the advanced crew at The Slot. Too big and gnarly for beginners.

Friday the 17th settles a bit, with a 5ft WNW swell in the morning (energy 662) backed by a light onshore breeze, and by the afternoon it fades to 4ft (487). Again, the surface isn't great, and the score reflects that.

We hit another lull over the weekend of the 19th and 20th. Swell drops to 2ft to 3ft from the SSW. The Sunday the 19th morning does offer another rare moment of glassy conditions on that tiny 2ft swell (energy 423). Perfect for a longboard if you’re desperate, but it’s a real small wave.

The following week, from Monday the 21st through Thursday the 24th, is a frustrating stretch. We get a steady diet of 3ft to 4ft SSW swell, but the period gets long (14 to 16 seconds). That long-period groundswell at a beachier, exposed reef setup like this often just washes through or breaks too straight. There’s some moderate energy (in the 450-996 range), but the conditions are marginal or poor. You’d be out there on a prayer.

Finally, things look like they might come together again towards the end of the period. Saturday the 25th afternoon brings a new pulse from the NW at 6ft (energy 1366). Then Sunday the 26th morning shows a 8ft NW swell (energy 1967). That’s the standout of the entire outlook. It’s big and powerful with strong energy, but the wind is cross-onshore (6 mph from the WSW). At 8ft, this is once again expert territory only. It’s a promising late-season pulse, but being this far out (the 26th of July), we have to treat it as a tantalising possibility rather than a certainty.

The window closes on the 27th with a drop back to 3ft from the SSW (energy 738) and messy cross-onshore winds, basically signaling a return to the funk.

So, the gem on the table is Tuesday 14th afternoon for a glassy, clean session on chest-high waves, but the real power move is the big NW swell slated for the 26th. That one has the potential to be a belter, but only if the wind plays ball. For now, keep your eyes on the long-range charts.

Rusty.
