The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for Super Tubes.
First thing you need to know – this spot is a rare-breaks reef, and it’s an advanced wave. So if you’re not ready for a shallow, critical take-off, this isn’t your session. The water’s sitting at 66°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year – a nice little bonus.
The next 16 days start off pretty average. There’s a small window of hope right at the start on Tuesday morning, July 14th. We’ve got a tiny 2ft SSW swell with a 12-second period and a light cross-off breeze. The combined energy is weak (143). It’s surfable, but honestly, it’s very ordinary. You’ll be scratching for waves. The rest of that week into the weekend is grim – poor conditions, small swell, and onshore winds. It’s not even worth looking at until later.
The first real standout doesn’t pop up until Sunday afternoon, July 19th. The swell is still only 2ft from the SW, but the period has stretched to 17 seconds, so there’s some groundswell push. The wind swings cross-off from the west, and the wave energy jumps to a moderate 488. It’s clean, but it’s a marginal call. You’ll need to pick your tides carefully.
Now, keep your eyes on the 24th and 25th of July. That’s when things get interesting. Friday afternoon, a building S swell arrives at 6ft with a 14-second period. The combined energy hits 1395, which is strong. The wind is a light cross-onshore, so it’s not glassy, but it’s workable. This is the biggest push of the forecast. Saturday morning holds that 6ft swell with onshore wind, so it’s messy. But by Saturday afternoon, the wind shifts cross-shore and it’s light. That’s the best window in the whole run – a solid, powerful swell with clean-ish conditions. It’s still only for experts at that size, but if you’re charging, that’s your moment.
After that, the swell backs off through the 26th, and the last real chance comes on Tuesday afternoon, July 28th. A 3ft SW swell with a 16-second period, combined energy of 391, and a light cross-off wind. The forecast says "expect good surf conditions." That’s a solid call for a clean, lined-up afternoon session.
Honestly, for a spot that rarely breaks, there’s actually a couple of proper windows here. The long-period swells mean the sets will be spaced out, but the shape should be there at a reef like this. If you can only pick one session, make it Saturday afternoon on the 25th – that’s the standout.
Rusty.
