Table - best surf conditions forecast for El Porto Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it’s looking pretty flat and frustrating for the most part. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak, and messy surf ahead. The first real chance to get wet isn’t until Saturday the 12th, and even then, it’s a marginal call. The swell is small, the winds are mostly cross to onshore, and the quality is just not there for a proper session.
The only spot we’re looking at for the whole run is El Porto Beach. It’s a consistent, exposed beginner beach break, but the conditions are fighting it. The water is sitting at 69°, which is a solid 4° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s a big deal, so the water is feeling like a warm bath right now.
Through the first week, from Saturday the 12th to Friday the 18th, the swell is tiny, mostly 1ft to 2ft, from the SSW. The wind is a real problem. It’s constantly cross-on or straight onshore, especially in the afternoons. The wave energy is pretty weak, topping out around 235 (moderate) for a brief moment, but mostly sitting in the low 100s to 200s. Saturday the 12th morning has a tiny 2ft SSW swell with a long 15-second period, but the cross wind makes it bumpy. The only bright spot in this whole first week is Friday the 17th morning. We get a light cross-offshore breeze from the SSE, and a long-period 1ft SW groundswell (19 seconds). The wave comment says “clean,” and the energy is a weak 179. It’s knee-high and glassy, but that’s about the best we’ll see for a while. Everything else is onshore slop or tiny ripples.
The second week, from Saturday the 19th to Sunday the 26th, isn’t much better. The swell picks up a little – we see 2ft to 3ft from the SW and SSW, but the wind stays stubbornly cross-on from the SW or WSW. The wave energy climbs though, hitting 479 on Saturday the 18th afternoon and 515 on Sunday the 26th afternoon, which is strong energy, but it’s all wasted under onshore wind. The period stays long, 15-20 seconds, meaning it’s a proper groundswell, but it’s getting torn apart by the wind at the beach. For a beginner spot like this, the sets are gonna be irregular and messy.
If I had to pick one standout, it’s that Friday the 17th morning. The glassy, clean conditions with a light offshore breeze are a rare win in this forecast. The swell is tiny, but it’ll be the most pleasant surf of the whole period. If you’re a beginner, that’s your window. For everyone else, this is a tough run. The consistent small swell and constant onshore wind mean it’s more of a paddle and tan session than a surf.
If you’re into kiting, with the onshore winds and moderate swell later in the second week, it might get interesting. But for a paddle surfer? It’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
