Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Hey crew, Rusty here. Let's break down El Porto for the next couple of weeks. Truth is, it's looking pretty flat, with a long stretch of small, weak surf ahead. The water is running about 4°F warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won't be freezing your tail off.
The first good chance to wet a line comes on Sunday, July 5th. We've got a tiny 2ft SSW swell with a long period of 18 seconds, but the combined energy is weak at 278. A light cross-onshore breeze will keep it a bit bumpy. Not much to write home about. Monday and Tuesday are more of the same – small and choppy, especially in the afternoons when the wind picks up. The energy gets a little better on Tuesday morning, hitting 480, but the wind is still cross-onshore.
Honestly, the entire first week is a struggle. The waves are too small to really get into, and the wind is mostly junk. Even the longer-period swells we get won't save it because there's just no size.
The only real glimmer in this forecast is Saturday morning, July 11th. We've got clean 2ft waves from the SSW with a light cross-offshore breeze. The energy is still low at 211, but the clean conditions will make those little waves fun to ride. It's the best of a bad lot, but I'd call it a cruise and a fun paddle, not a stand-out day. This break can get crowded often, so if you're going, get out early.
After that, it gets really quiet. From Sunday the 12th all the way through to Friday the 17th, it's a solid week of tiny, weak surf with poor conditions. Swell heights drop to 1ft to 2ft, and the energy stays under 200 most days. The winds are mostly cross-onshore or onshore, making it choppy and messy. Kite surfers might have a little fun on a breezy afternoon, but for paddle surfing, it's a blank.
Then, on Saturday morning, July 18th, we get another little pulse. A 2ft SW swell with a long period of 17 seconds and a clean cross-offshore wind. The energy jumps to a moderate 334. It's still small, but if you're patient and don't mind waiting for sets, you might find a few lined-up runners. It's very inconsistent, though.
We finish up on Monday, July 20th, with the biggest swell of the run – 3ft from the SSW at 14 seconds. The combined energy is a moderate 424, and the morning wind is just a light cross-shore, so it could be clean. Still not a big swell, but for this forecast, that's the biggest we'll see.
So, the honest truth: there's no true standout here. The two Saturday mornings (July 11th and July 18th) are your best bets for a clean session on small waves. If you're a beginner, this is actually your window – the small stuff and light winds are perfect for learning. For everyone else, keep your hopes low and just enjoy being out there.
Rusty.
