Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, grab a seat. Rusty here, and I've just pored over the Heavens forecast. Look, I'll be straight with you – the next sixteen days are a bit of a tough watch. We've got a long, drawn-out period of tiny, weak waves and iffy conditions. Honestly, it's a flat spell.
We start off Monday, 6th July, and it's already a struggle. Heavens is a very consistent beginner-friendly spot, but right now it's just not delivering. The water is a toasty 67°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, which is nice for a paddle, but that's about it.
Monday morning sees a tiny 2ft SSW groundswell with a very long 16-second period, but it's wrapped in a light cross-onshore breeze (10 km/h). The combined energy is moderate at best (446), and the report is calling it poor surf. The afternoon goes cross-shore with even smaller 2ft waves.
The entire first week is a washout. Tuesday through to Sunday (7th to 12th July) is a grey area of tiny swell – nothing over 3ft, always from the SSW. The periods stay long, between 14 and 20 seconds, which in theory is good, but with this little height it just means a long wait for a knee-high lump. The winds are mostly light, but either cross-on or onshore, keeping the surface messy. Every single session scores as either "poor" or "marginal" – there's no stand-out window here.
The second week doesn't get any better. From 13th July onward, the swell completely dies. Monday the 13th offers a 2ft set, but by Tuesday the 14th we're down to 2ft, and from Wednesday the 15th right through to Saturday the 19th, we're stuck with 1ft to 2ft slop. The combined energy dips into the weak zone, dropping to just 125 on Thursday the 16th.
Now, late in the run we get a flicker of something. On Saturday the 18th, the afternoon session looks *slightly* more interesting. The swell is only 2ft from the SW, same as ever, but for the first time in ages we get a cross-offshore breeze from the NW (12 mph). The report says it will be clean, which is a huge positive. The combined energy climbs back to a moderate 287.
Then Sunday the 19th afternoon has 3ft from the SW with a 17-second period, and only a 3 mph cross-onshore breeze. The energy jumps to 405. So it's not a complete write-off, but it's small and clean rather than any kind of epic.
The last few days, Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st, are the same story: knee-high SSW groundswell with inconsistent light winds. For a spot this exposed and consistent, a blank run like this is fairly normal for the area. It won't stay poor forever, so keep an eye on the charts, but right now, there's nothing to get excited about. The best of a bad bunch is the clean swell on the 18th afternoon, but I wouldn't call it a standout.
Rusty.
