Table - best surf conditions forecast for Heavens over the next 16 days.

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s chew the fat on what’s happening at Heavens over the next couple of weeks. First thing – it’s a slow start. The first surf I can honestly recommend doesn’t roll in until Sunday, July 12th, and even that is a tough call. The water is sitting at 67°, which is way warmer than normal for this time of year – nearly three degrees above average, so that’s pretty unusual.

We kick off on Sunday the 12th with a weak 3ft swell from the SSW, but the wind is a cross-on from the W at 9 mph. The waves are chopped up and messy with a combined energy reading of 338. Not worth getting wet for. Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th are more of the same – tiny surf, questionable tide, and onshore/cross-on breezes. Honestly, it’s a flat and funky stretch through to Wednesday the 15th with the swell dropping to just 1ft.

We hit a real dry gap here. From Wednesday the 15th right through to Friday the 17th of July, there’s nothing to recommend. The swell is tiny, the period is long but the height is just too small to hold together. Thursday the 16th sees a 1ft swell from the SW at 16 seconds, but the combined energy is a pathetic 122. It’s a sad state of affairs.

Finally, things start looking a little perkier around Saturday the 18th of July. We get a bump in swell from the SSE, 3ft, and the combined energy jumps up to 562 – that’s moderate wave energy starting to show. The wind is light and onshore from the SSW in the morning, which is borderline. Still, the forecast calls it marginal, so it’s a maybe, not a green light.

The standout window really opens up on Saturday the 18th afternoon through Sunday the 19th. The best bet in the whole 16-day run looks like Heavens on Saturday afternoon. A solid 3ft swell from the S at 15 seconds, combined energy hits 724 – that’s a proper pulse of energy for this spot. The wind is light cross-on from the W at 6 mph, which will keep it fairly clean with just small ripples. It’s not a perfect morning, but the afternoon session on the 18th is your best shot. Sunday morning the 19th also has legs, with 4ft from the S at 11 seconds and light cross-on wind, but the energy is a bit lower at 532. Both of these are for the more patient surfer on a longboard or a fun shape.

From Monday the 20th onwards, we get a frustrating pattern. The swell height builds – we see 3ft on Tuesday the 21st, and by Friday the 24th we’ve got 5ft from the S at 13 seconds with combined energy up in the 871 to 915 range. That’s a lot of water moving. But the wind keeps messing it up. Most days have a cross-on or cross-shore breeze that chops the surface up. By Friday the 24th, the wind is cross from the W, so it’s not terrible, but it’s not the glassy, peeling dream we’d want for the biggest swell of the period. That 5ft is a bit much for beginners anyway and is really only for intermediate and up.

The second week is a mixed bag. The swell sticks around, but it’s always fighting the wind. Thursday the 23rd morning gives us 4ft from the S, light onshore wind, and combined energy of 774. It’s promising but marginal on quality. By Saturday the 26th, we’re back down to smaller 2ft to 3ft waves with long periods, which can get a bit straight and fat here. Not a classic run.

So to sum it up for Heavens: there’s a decent window around the 18th and 19th of July, but the conditions never fully lock in for a perfect day. The biggest swells in the second week get chopped up by the wind. It’s a bit of a struggle, but that Saturday afternoon the 18th is your best chance for a few clean, cruisy ones. Keep your eyes on the forecast – it can change quick.

Rusty.
