Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s get into it. This is Rusty, and I’m looking straight at the charts for Heavens.
Alright folks, the next 16 days are lookin’ a bit of a struggle for Heavens. It’s one of those classic "check back later" forecasts. The swell’s gonna be around, but it’s never quite gonna get its act together with the wind. We’ve got a long stretch here where the scores are just too low to get excited about, with a whole heap of cross-shore and cross-onshore breezes messin’ with what could be a fun little wave.
Let me walk you through it. Things start off on Friday the 3rd of July with a little 3ft swell from the SSW at a very long 16 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell, period-wise, which means nice shape if you can get it clean. But the wind is from the W at 15 km/h, cross-shore, and the combined wave energy is only 353 (weak to moderate), so it’s gonna be bumpy and small. Water temps are a really unusual 67°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year.
We roll into Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th, and it’s more of the same: tiny 1ft to 2ft SSW swells, but the wind keeps switching around from WSW to W. The combined energy stays under 400, so it’s weak overall. The trend continues Monday the 6th through Wednesday the 8th of July – we see the swell energy bump up a touch to the 400–500 range, with the biggest being 3ft on Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning. But here's the rub: every single session has either a cross or cross-onshore wind. Tuesday afternoon gets a moderate 20 km/h cross-shore from the WNW, which is just chopsville. The wave energy on Tuesday afternoon peaks at 656 (moderate), but with that wind it’s all blown out.
From Thursday the 9th of July all the way through to the end of the run on Saturday the 18th of July, it’s a grim pattern. You’re not gonna find a single morning or afternoon with clean offshore wind. The swell hangs around between 1ft and 3ft, mostly from the SSW, but the wind is either onshore, cross-onshore, or a messy cross. Combined energy drops back down under 300 for most of the second week – barely enough to push a leaf. By the final few days, from Tuesday the 14th onward, the swell shrinks down to 1ft to 2ft with periods dropping to 12 or 13 seconds. The energy dips well below 200 (weak). There’s just no juice.
Honestly, I can’t in good conscience point to any standout session here. There’s no day where the wind lines up with that optimum SW swell direction. It’s a long blank run where the surf is either too small, too chopped up, or both. If you’re desperate, Tuesday the 7th morning has the best chance with a 3ft SSW swell at 18 seconds and light WSW cross-onshore, but even that’s marginal. If you’re not a beginner (the wave size is perfect for beginners right up to 3ft), you’re better off waiting for a change in the pattern. With a spot that’s very consistent like Heavens, it usually doesn’t stay this poor for long, so keep an eye on it.
Rusty, signing off.
