Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s take a look at what we’ve got coming up here. It’s a bit of a quiet spell, to be honest. For the next couple of weeks, the surf at Heavens is looking pretty unremarkable. There’s some swell around, but the quality is just never really there. We’ve got a run of days with weak, inconsistent energy and less-than-ideal winds. The combined wave energy is mostly in the low-to-mid hundreds, hitting a peak of 636 at one point, but that doesn’t mean good waves.
The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing to write home about.
Starting on Friday, July 3rd, we’ve got a 3ft SSW groundswell with a very long 16-second period, and it’s blowing offshore in the morning. Sounds promising, right? But the forecast talks about “poor surf conditions” and gives it a zero score. That tells me it’s probably fat and gutless, despite the period. The wind goes cross-shore in the afternoon, but it’s still not good. This pattern pretty much holds through the weekend and into the start of the following week. The swell hangs around 2ft to 3ft, mostly from the SSW, with periods that are long (14 to 20 seconds), but the wave comment is consistently “marginal” or “poor.” There are a couple of windows with light offshore or glassy conditions, like Monday morning, July 6th, or Wednesday morning, July 8th, but the wave quality just isn't there to make it worth a special trip. For a beginner-friendly, very consistent spot like this, it’s a real shame.
The second week gets even smaller and weaker. By July 13th, the swell drops to 2ft and stays down around 1ft to 2ft for days. The combined energy falls into the low 100s. There’s a slight uptick on Saturday, July 18th with a 2ft SW swell and an 18-second period, giving us some marginal energy (319), but even then it’s cross-onshore and only scores a 1.
Honestly, there are no standouts in this 16-day window. It’s one of those flat, frustrating runs where you just have to wait. The crowds at Heavens can be there sometimes, but they won’t be an issue because the surf won't be worth the crowd.
Best bet? Maybe keep an eye on Wednesday, July 8th morning – it’s the highest score of the whole run. A 3ft SSW swell, 16-second period, with near-glass conditions (SW 3 mph, offshore). The combined energy is moderate at 504. It could offer a few clean, soft waves for the beginners who are happy on a longboard. But that’s about as good as it gets.
Otherwise, it’s a long dry spell. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s looking like a full two-week gap with nothing worth paddling out for.
