Table - best surf conditions forecast for Heavens over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get stuck into the outlook for the local break. It’s a pretty quiet spell ahead, so don’t expect much to get excited about for a while.
First off, the water temp is sitting at 66°F which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you can leave the steamer at home if you’re that way inclined.
Right now, the beginning of this forecast window is a bit of a write-off. We’re looking at small, messy swell and cross-onshore breezes that are just chopping everything up. For the first few days, from Saturday 11 July right through to Friday 17 July, the surf is frankly poor. You’ll see tiny waves around 1ft to 3ft, with periods all over the place, but the wind is never your friend. Mostly cross-on or onshore, and the combined energy is weak, sitting between 128 and 326. Honestly, not worth paddling out for. There’s a gap of about a week of nothing much going on.
Now, things start to perk up a little on Saturday 18 July. The morning shows a bump in swell to 3ft from the SSE, with a long period of 17 seconds – that’s proper groundswell energy. The wind is light and offshore from the SSW, which is a major positive. The combined energy jumps to 857 (moderate), so there’s some push behind it. The afternoon stays clean with cross-shore breezes, though the swell drops slightly to 3ft. This is the standout session of the whole outlook. Heavens is a very consistent spot, and with that light offshore wind, you’ll get some clean, lined-up waves. The only downer is that it can get crowded sometimes, so get in early. The long period means the waves will have good shape and power, but at a beach break it might be a bit straight, so keep that in mind.
Into Sunday 19 July, the morning holds up with 4ft from the S, again with light offshore winds from the SW. The energy is still strong at 824. It’s a solid option, but the afternoon sees the wind pick up to a moderate cross-shore from the WNW, which will put a bit of chop on the face. The swell period drops to 12 seconds, so it’s not as clean.
After that, from Monday 20 July onwards, the swell drops back down to 2ft to 3ft, and the wind turns more cross-on again. It’s not terrible, but it’s not worth writing home about. The energy levels stay moderate (in the 200-400 range), but the conditions are just never quite right. A few sessions on 21 July and 22 July might offer a wave if you’re desperate, but the wind is never clean offshore.
Further out, the last few days of the outlook (24-26 July) show a mix of tiny swell and light winds, but nothing that stands out. The long-range stuff on 25 July has a 20-second period swell from the SW, but it’s only 2ft and the wind is cross-on, so it’s more of a promise than a certainty.
Bottom line: The best bet is Saturday 18 July morning. Get on it. Otherwise, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
