The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at the outlook for Heavens over the next couple of weeks.
Look, I won't sugarcoat it – the next few days are a bit of a struggle. The swell is tiny, and the wind is mostly cross-onshore, making for poor surf conditions. There's a bit of a wait for anything worthwhile.
We do see a slow build from the 19th of July onwards. The Sunday afternoon sees a waist-high 3ft S swell arriving, but the period is a short 13 seconds, so it'll be a bit crumbly. The wind is light cross-onshore, so it's not all bad, and the combined swell energy is ramping up to moderate (764). This is the first time things start to feel a little more interesting.
The real window of opportunity, the standout, starts to shape up from the 23rd of July through the 25th. The 23rd Thursday morning is looking promising with a 5ft S swell at 15 seconds, and a light WSW cross-onshore breeze. The combined energy is strong (1018), so there's some proper push behind it. The 24th Friday afternoon sees the swell nudge up to 5ft from the S, with a gentle cross-shore breeze from the W, making for a cleaner wave. The 25th Saturday morning holds a consistent 5ft S swell with a light cross-onshore breeze, keeping it rideable.
This is a beginner-friendly break, so that 5ft max swell is a good size – not too big, not too small. The water temperature is sitting at 68°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so you can leave the thick wetsuit at home. For the best chance of a clean wave, I'd aim for the 24th Friday afternoon, when conditions look the most aligned.
Beyond that, into the last week of July, the swell drops back a notch, but there's still some waist-high stuff on offer. The 27th Monday morning has a 4ft SW swell with a long 18-second period, and a light cross-onshore breeze. It's nothing epic, but it's surfable.
Overall, it's a slow start, but there's a solid few days of fun waves from the 23rd to the 25th. Get out there.
Rusty.
