Table - best surf conditions forecast for Heavens over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s chew the fat on what’s coming.
Honestly, it’s a rough start. We’re staring down a long stretch of pretty mediocre conditions with hardly anything to get the heart pumping. The water is sitting at 66°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s a small comfort. The forecast kicks off on Thursday, July 9th, with a tiny 3ft swell from the SSW, but the period is a super long 16 seconds. That’s a groundswell, which is good for shape, but at this size, it’s going to be weak. The combined energy is only 321, which is low. The wind is onshore from the SW, and the call is "marginal surf or questionable tide." It’s not worth paddling out for.
The entire first week, from July 9th right through to July 17th, is a write-off. We’re looking at nine days of nothing but small, weak swells, bad wind directions, and poor surf conditions. The swell height barely moves from 1ft to 3ft, and the energy values are all in the low hundreds. The wind is mostly cross-on or onshore, keeping things choppy and messy. There’s no standout day in there.
Finally, we get a pulse of energy kicking in on Saturday, July 18th. The swell jumps to 3ft, but the direction shifts to the SSE, and the period goes to 17 seconds. The combined energy spikes to 634 (moderate), which is a big improvement. The wind is a light cross-onshore, so it’s not glassy, but it’s not terrible either. The call is still "marginal," but it’s the best we’ve seen in a while.
Then Sunday, July 19th, is the real deal—the only true standout in the whole 16-day window. The swell builds to 5ft from the S, with a period of 14 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 1268, which is strong wave energy. This is what we’ve been waiting for. The wind is a light cross-onshore in the morning, and by the afternoon it’s from the WSW at 6 mph, which is still light and cross-on. For Heavens, this is the pick of the fortnight. The swell is getting up there, so it’s probably too big for beginners, but for the experienced crew, this is the best chance for a proper session. The optimum swell direction for this spot is from the SW, and we’re getting a mix of S and SSE, so it’s not a perfect match, but the energy is there.
After that, the energy drops off again. Monday, July 20th, sees the swell drop to 3ft, with the energy falling to 465. The rest of the second week is more of the same: small swells, moderate energy, and mostly onshore or cross-shore winds. The conditions are marginal at best.
So, to sum it up: the first nine days are a total blank. It’s a long wait. But if you can hold out, the best chance you’ll get is on Sunday, July 19th. That’s your window. The swell will be solid, the energy is strong, and the wind is manageable. It’s not perfect, but it’s the only real show in town.
Rusty.
