The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer for the coming weeks.

To be straight with you, the outlook for this spot is a tough one. We’ve got a long stretch of small, messy conditions that’s going to test your patience. The water is an absolute standout though, clocking in at 71°F – that’s a whopping 8°F warmer than usual for this time of year, so at least you won’t be needing a thick wetsuit.

The first real chance of anything resembling a wave kicks off on the morning of Friday, July 31st. Marshalls will see a 5ft swell from the south, with a period of 14 seconds. That’s a solid groundswell. The wind is light and offshore from the south, which is a major positive for clean faces. The wave energy is strong, hitting 1090. This is the best on offer across the whole run, but don't get too excited – it’s still a marginal call. The swell is getting up there, so it might be a bit much for beginners, and the long period could make it a bit tricky on a reef setup, but it’s the only window where it all comes together. The morning of the 31st is your best bet.

After that, it’s a slow slide into smaller, weaker surf. The weekend of August 2nd and 3rd sees the swell drop to 2ft or less, with poor energy readings (137-143) and mostly cross or onshore winds. The surf is just too weak to get excited about. From August 4th onward, the swell stays tiny, often around 1ft to 2ft, and the energy levels are low, often below 100. The wind is a mixed bag, but the size just isn't there. For a couple of days around the 7th and 8th, we see a tiny bump from the SSW with a very long period (19 seconds), but it's only 2ft to 2ft which is a tease. The long period will make it straight and fast on the reef, not a great combo.

The truth is, after that Friday the 31st, you're looking at a solid week and a half of barely anything rideable. The forecast is pretty clear on this one. Keep your eye on the conditions, but don't hold your breath.

Rusty.
