The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
To be straight with you, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty quiet around Toes Over. The swell is tiny and the wind is mostly on it, so we’re looking at a long stretch of poor conditions. There’s a real gap of flat, messy days from now through the 30th of August. The first couple of weeks of the forecast are basically a write-off for any decent ride.
The first glimmer of something worthwhile shows up on the morning of Friday the 4th of September. We’re looking at a clean 3ft SSW groundswell, with a period of 17 seconds, and a light offshore from the SSW. The wind is light and clean, which is a major positive. The combined energy is moderate at 590 – not huge, but there’s enough push for a more experienced surfer. The water is much warmer than normal for this time of year at 70°, which is a nice bonus. For a spot that’s fairly consistent and exposed to the SW, this is the best we’ve got on the table. The crowds are sometimes around, so you might have a few others out.
The Saturday the 5th of September builds on that. The morning again shows 3ft from the SSW, period 17 seconds, and the wind is light from the S, a little cross-on but still with light bumps. The energy is strong at 803, so the swell will have some grunt. The afternoon holds steady with 3ft and a clean 6 mph offshore from the SW, giving you clean lines. This is the standout of the whole run, especially for anyone who likes a bit of juice.
A couple of other days on the 6th and 7th of September have some swell around the 3ft to 4ft mark, but the wind is cross or cross-on, making it a bit less attractive. The 7th of September morning has a 4ft S swell with a 14-second period, and a cross-shore wind, so it’s going to be a little choppy.
Overall, it’s a slow start and a long wait. The best bet is definitely the 5th of September. If you’re keen, the 4th of September morning is also a decent shout. The rest of the window is pretty marginal.
Rusty.
