The Lowdown
G'day, Rusty here, lookin' at the next couple of weeks for Toes Over. I gotta be straight with you – it's a rough stretch. We're in for a long, flat spell before anything even blips on the radar. The first nine days or so are pretty much a write-off, with barely a bump to get excited about. Then, right at the tail end of the forecast, things start to look a little more promising.
The water temp is sitting at a balmy 70°F right now, which is about 4°F warmer than what we'd normally see this time of year. That's a nice surprise, but it's the only win for a while.
For the first week, through to the end of August, we're looking at tiny, weak swells. The combined energy is mostly in the low-to-mid hundreds (107 to 445), which is just a whisper. The swell height is a pathetic 1ft to 3ft, and the wind is almost always onshore or cross-onshore, so it's gonna be messy and bumpy. The best you'll see is a "marginal" call, but honestly, it's not worth paddling out for. The long period on these swells, 15 to 19 seconds, sounds fancy, but with no size and bad wind, it's just a tease.
We get a bit of a pulse around the 4th of September, on a Friday. The swell from the SSW picks up to 3ft, and the energy jumps to 850. It's still a long-period groundswell (19 seconds), which is better for points and reefs, but for a beach/jetty setup like Toes Over, it can break a bit too straight. The wind is light cross-onshore, so it won't be glassy, but it's the best looking morning in weeks. The water's still a bit warmer than average, but we don't have a specific reading for later.
Then, the 5th of September, Saturday morning, looks like the real standout. We're looking at a 4ft SSW swell with a solid 17-second period, and the energy is pumping at 1045. That's a decent amount of push. The wind is light and onshore, but the size is there. It's still not perfect, but it's the biggest, most energetic swell we've seen in the whole outlook. This one's worth a look, but remember, it's over a week away, so keep an eye on the forecasts.
Overall, the pick of the bunch is the Saturday morning of the 5th of September. It's the only time the swell gets over 3ft, and while it won't be a classic, it's the best we've got. The rest of the time, you're better off finding something else to do.
Rusty.
