The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll be straight with you – this outlook for Toes Over is a tough one. We’ve got a 16-day window staring at us, but the first week is basically a write-off for anything decent. You’ll be waiting a full week before we see a glimmer of hope. The water’s sitting at 71°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a solid 6° above average, so you’ll be in boardies for sure.
The first real whisper of something surfable comes on Saturday morning, 25 July. It’s still marginal, but the combined energy is climbing to a moderate 534 and the swell is 2 ft from the SSW with a period of 21 seconds. That’s a long-period groundswell, so it’ll have some push but at a beach/jetty setup like Toes Over, it might be a bit too straight-breaking. The wind is light and onshore from the SW at 6 mph, so it’s not glassy, but it’s not a howling mess either. I’d barely call it a standout, but it’s the best of a bad bunch for the first week.
Now, the real standout – and I’m talking the only true highlight in this whole 16-day run – is the morning of Monday, 27 July. The swell bumps up to 3 ft from the SSW, with a period of 18 seconds and the combined energy jumps to 665 (moderate). That’s the biggest energy of the whole forecast so far. The wind is light from the S at 6 mph, coming cross-on, which should keep things reasonably clean. It’s still a beach/jetty break, so that long period can make it a bit too straight, but for a Monday morning session, you might get a few fun ones. The crowds are listed as “sometimes” so you might not have it to yourself, but it’s worth a look.
After that, the following week trails off again. The morning of Friday, 31 July shows a 4 ft swell from the SSE with a period of 15 seconds and a combined energy of 828 (strong), but the wind is onshore and the surf quality is still poor. The pattern is basically: small, onshore, and messy. If you’re a kite surfer, some of those afternoons with onshore winds and a bit of chop might look more interesting than paddle surfing.
Honestly, for this stretch, you’re looking at one or two mornings that are barely worth a paddle. It’s not a total blank, but it’s close. Forecasts can change, but right now, I’d keep your expectations low.
Rusty.
