The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the only game in town, Toes Over.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you: the next week and a half is a tough watch. The swell is tiny, we're talking a piddly 1ft to 2ft for days on end, and the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, which is just gonna make a mess of things. The energy is weak for a long stretch, with all those readings under 200 (energy) for the first few days. Honestly, it's a solid week of "poor surf conditions" and not much to get excited about. The water is currently 70°, which is a whopping 5° warmer than usual for this time of year—that's a really notable anomaly, feels like bath water.
We finally see a bit of a pulse kicking in around Thursday, July 24th. The swell bumps up to 3ft from the S, with a period of 14 seconds, and the energy jumps to 621 (moderate energy). It's still a "marginal" call, but it's the first glimmer of hope. The main event looks like it's shaping up for Saturday, July 25th. The swell is forecast to hit 5ft from the S, with a period of 15 seconds and a strong energy reading of 1424. That's a proper groundswell. However, the wind is still onshore from the SW at 9 mph, which is a shame. That wind will wreck the surface. At 5ft, this is getting a bit too big for beginners, but the long period will mean clean lines, though it might be a bit straight for a beach/jetty setup like this.
Honestly, the standout window is really the morning of Thursday, July 24th and the morning of Saturday, July 25th. The 24th has that 3ft S swell with light onshore wind, which is at least rideable. The 25th has the biggest swell of the whole run at 5ft, but the onshore wind is gonna be a buzzkill. The set-up looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing given the wind direction. The rest of the second week sees the swell drop back to 2ft-3ft, but the wind stays stubbornly onshore or cross-onshore, so it's more of the same marginal stuff. There's a fair bit of consistency in the background swell, so it won't stay poor forever, but this forecast is a real test of patience.
Rusty.
