The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, let's have a look at what's shaping up for our patch. It's been a bit of a flat spell to start, but don't write the whole period off just yet.
The water is sitting at 70°F around *Toes Over*, which is a good 5°F warmer than we'd normally see for this time of year – definitely a pleasant surprise for an early paddle.
We've got a long wait ahead, though. Right now, through this Sunday and Monday (the 23rd and 24th of August), it's pretty grim. We're looking at weak, onshore dribble with swell heights barely cracking 1ft. The energy is weak (199 to 232 range). Not worth getting wet for.
Tuesday the 25th into Wednesday the 26th stays marginal. The swell bumps up just a touch to 2ft, but it's coming from the S/SW with a period that's still pretty short (around 12 seconds). Winds stay on it or cross-onshore, meaning it's bumpy and sloppy. The combined energy is moderate (around 288) but it doesn't add up to any quality.
The whole of that first week really just offers a few "maybe" windows. The Thursday and Friday (27th & 28th) see a slight increase in period, with that SSW swell getting up to 17-19 seconds on Friday, but the swell height is still only 2ft. An interesting sign of energy dropping in (energy values hitting 308-404), but the wind is never kind enough to let it clean up.
The best of the whole outlook looks to be the very end. Let's look at that final weekend and into the new month. Saturday the 29th of August shows a bit more size at 3ft, but the wind is still a problem. It's really the morning of Sunday the 6th of September that stands out. We've got a glassy morning with zero wind, and a clean 3ft SSW swell. The combined swell energy sits at a moderate 360. For what's on offer, that's your best chance for a proper, clean surf. A light SW wind is due in the afternoon, so hit it early.
The period after that, into Monday the 7th and beyond, gets messy again with stronger cross-onshore winds and a drop in quality. If you're not a morning person, that Sunday the 6th is the only real standout in the whole 16-day stretch.
Cheers, Rusty.
