Table - best surf conditions forecast for Toes Over over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty, and I gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks at Toes Over are looking pretty flat and frustrating. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing really happening, so don’t get your hopes up too early.
Looking at the whole picture, we’re staring down a gap of about ten days before we see anything worth paddling out for. The first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until July 19th. For now, the water is sitting at 67°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only thing that’s not disappointing.
Through Wednesday the 8th and into the weekend, it’s all small, weak swell. The mornings start with a light breeze, but it’s straight onshore from the SW, and the wave energy is feeble, sitting around the 200s to 400s. The surf is just small and messy. Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th are more of the same – onshore wind and poor surf. By Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th, the wind picks up a little, but it’s still cross-onshore and choppy. Honestly, not a single wave worth chasing.
The whole first week is a bust. We’ve got a solid run of days with no quality surf. The swell remains tiny, the period is long but the energy is weak, and the wind is never cooperating. This is a classic case of a lake-like ocean for a while.
Then, we finally get a pulse. On the morning of Sunday, July 19th, things start to look a little different. The swell bumps up to 4ft from the SSE with a 15-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 841 – that’s finally some moderate wave energy in the water. The wind is light and straight onshore from the SW, which is a bit of a bummer because it’s not clean, but it’s the best we’ve seen. The water is still calm and the surf is just marginal, but it’s a step up. This is the standout window, but it’s a week and a half away, so it’s a promising but less certain call.
The following Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st drop back down to smaller 2ft to 3ft swell with light cross-onshore winds. The energy is back in the 300s. It’s still not great, but for those desperate for a paddle, it’s something. The period hangs around 15-16 seconds, which is decent groundswell.
Honestly, Toes Over is a beach/jetty setup, and with this long period swell and small size, it’s going to be breaking pretty straight. With the wind being mostly onshore or cross-onshore, it’s not going to be a classic. If you’ve got a kite, this is looking more like a kite surfing setup than a paddle surfing one, especially on those days with the moderate breeze.
Keep an eye on that Sunday the 19th, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
