The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, and I’ve got the lowdown on Toes Over. It’s been a sad sight lately. The water is a warm 69°F, which is much warmer than typical for this time of year, running about 5°F above normal. Doesn’t help the waves though.
We’re in for a long, flat spell right off the bat. From now through the 22nd of July, it’s a total bust. The wind is all onshore or cross-onshore, and the swell is tiny, barely knee-high, with weak energy. The surf report is just “poor surf conditions” on repeat. Don’t bother.
Then, like a gift from the surf gods, we get a window. On the morning of Thursday, the 23rd of July, we see a real standout. A clean 3ft of swell from the S, with a period of 15 seconds. That’s a solid groundswell carrying some serious energy. And the best part? The wind is glassy. Zero. Miles per hour. It’s the only time in the whole 16 days where the conditions line up for clean waves. The wave comment even says “expect very good surf conditions.” This is your shot. It’s a Thursday morning, so if you can get out, that’s your session. The spot is a beach/jetty, so that long period might make it a little straight, but with glass, it’s going to be perfect.
The afternoon of the 23rd, the wind turns back onshore, and it’s “marginal.” After that, it’s back to the same old story of poor conditions, onshore winds, and chop right through the 28th. The 26th of July has a long period (19s), but it’s cross-onshore, so it’s a pass.
In short, the next week and a half is a bummer. The only real hope is that Thursday morning, the 23rd. One good session on the horizon. Make it count.
Rusty.
