Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright surfers, Rusty here with a look at what’s coming our way. Things are looking pretty quiet around here, so keep your expectations in check. Let’s get into it.
We’ve got a run of small SW groundswell on the horizon, but the quality just isn’t there for the most part. The water temp at Toes Over is sitting at 68°F, which is about 4°F warmer than usual for this time of year – definitely on the warm side, so you might not even need a spring suit.
The first couple of days are a bust. Saturday, July 4th and Sunday, July 5th are straight-up poor – tiny 2ft to 2ft SSW swell, but the wind is cross-on or onshore, so it’s all messy crud. Combined energy is only moderate, around 197 to 286. Not worth paddling out.
Monday, July 6th morning offers a glimmer with a 2ft SSW swell at a long period of 16 seconds, but it’s still cross-on. The energy picks up a bit to 312, but it’s only rated as marginal – really just a flicker of hope. That pattern holds through Tuesday and Wednesday: a bit more size, up to 3ft by Wednesday morning, July 8th, with moderate energy of 515, but the wind stays onshore or cross-on. Clean surf just isn’t happening.
From Thursday, July 9th through to the end of the first week and into the second, the swell hangs in at 1ft to 2ft, mostly from the SSW or SW, with periods bouncing between 13 and 18 seconds. The wind is a mix of light onshore or cross-on breezes. There are a few mornings with light cross-on conditions, but it’s all “poor surf conditions” or “marginal” at best. The energy numbers drop back to the 100-200 range, so there’s just no punch.
The only real standout – and I use that term loosely – is Wednesday, July 15th morning. We’ve got a clean 1ft SW swell with a very long period of 18 seconds. The wind is light and onshore (SW at 6 mph), so it’s not glassy, but that long-period groundswell should provide some shape at a beach/jetty setup like Toes Over. The combined energy is a weak 168, so it’ll be small and inconsistent, but if you’re desperate for a slow, clean wall, that’s your best bet. Just keep in mind, long-period swells can break a bit straight on a beach, but the jetty might offer a little more direction.
Honestly, there’s nothing here for beginners – the size never gets over 3ft, but the lack of clean conditions makes it tough for learning. For experts, it’s all pretty underwhelming. If you’re into kiting, the constant cross-on and onshore winds might be more interesting than paddling.
Overall, it’s a quiet run. No big swells, no pristine windows. The forecast can change, so don’t write it off completely, but for now, this is a week to find other things to do.
Rusty.
