Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what’s happening over the next couple of weeks at Rincon - Rivermouth.
Right off the bat, Sunday morning (5 July) is a bit of a tease. We’ve got a tiny 2ft swell rolling in from the SSW with a very long 18-second period. Combined energy is 238 – that’s moderate energy, but with the water temp sitting at a noticeably warm 64°F, which is 3°F warmer than usual for this time of year. It’s clean, with a light WSW cross-off breeze. It’s rideable, but nothing to get too worked up about.
Monday (6 July) afternoon shapes up a little nicer. The swell drops to 1ft, but that period stretches to 20 seconds, giving you that long, drawn-out groundswell feel. The WSW cross-off wind keeps it glassy. Energy is 269. Not a standout, but a solid, clean session if you’re keen.
Now, the real window opens from Tuesday afternoon (7 July) right through Thursday afternoon (9 July). Tuesday arvo sees the swell pick up to 2ft from the SSW with an 18-second period, and the wind is a clean WSW cross-off. Energy climbs to 451. Wednesday morning is similar – 2ft, 16 seconds, glassy. But the best of the bunch? Thursday morning (9 July) brings a 3ft swell from the W at 10 seconds, and a light WSW cross-off. The energy is 445 and it’s clean as a whistle. For this spot, that’s the pick of the first week – a nice waist-high wave, clean conditions, and proper Rivermouth lines. It’s rated fairly consistent, but crowds are often an issue here, so get in early.
Thursday afternoon (9 July) keeps the clean streak going with a 2ft SSW swell at 16 seconds, and energy jumps to a strong 537. That’s a lot of push for a point break. The wave quality should be excellent, with the long period working beautifully on this river mouth setup.
Then we hit a rough patch. Friday (10 July) through Sunday morning (12 July) is a write-off – poor conditions with onshore southerly winds. Energy drops and it’s choppy. Hang onto your board. The same story continues into Monday (13 July), though by the afternoon the wind backs off to a clean WSW cross-off again, but the swell is tiny at 2ft.
Tuesday (14 July) and Wednesday (15 July) are a mixed bag – small WNW swell (3ft to 3ft) but with a short 8-9 second period. Onshore or cross-shore winds keep it messy. Not worth the paddle.
The second week starts to look more promising, but it’s further out so call it a hopeful maybe. Thursday afternoon (16 July) sees a sudden shift – a clean 1ft swell from the WNW, but with a very long 18-second period. Energy is 257 and the wind is a light WSW cross-off. It’ll be clean but small. Friday (17 July) and Saturday (18 July) offer similar small, clean conditions – 2ft from the W or WNW, periods around 16-17 seconds. Saturday arvo, the wind picks up to 12 mph, but it’s still cross-off. Not a classic, but fun if you’re desperate.
Sunday (19 July) and Monday (20 July) are back to poor form with onshore winds and tiny swell. Monday afternoon (20 July) has a weak 2ft from the SW with energy at just 149 – barely a ripple.
To be honest, the true standout across this whole forecast is Thursday morning, 9 July. The 3ft W swell at 10 seconds, with a light cross-off wind and clean conditions, combined with that strong energy (445), is your best bet. Get on it before the wind swings. The long period swells earlier in the week will be fun, but for this point break, that Thursday morning is the one that’ll have you smiling.
Stay frothy,
Rusty
