Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for this stretch of coast.
Truth be told, it’s a tough start. The whole first week and a bit is a write-off. For days on end there’s next to nothing doing – tiny, weak swells and onshore winds messing things up. We’re talking about a pretty grim run from Monday the 6th right through to Friday the 17th of July. A lot of poor surf and marginal conditions with light, onshore breezes. Not worth paddling out for.
Hollywood Beach
Now, there is a flicker of something better. On the morning of Thursday the 16th of July, you get a moment of quiet. The wind goes glassy, dead calm, which is a beautiful thing, but the swell is tiny at only 1ft from the SW. Good for a longboard maybe, and the water temp here is about average for the time of year, but the wave energy is weak (138).
The real potential, the one that gets the heart going a bit, is reserved for the very end of the forecast. Sunday the 19th of July sees the build start. By the afternoon, we get a pulse of 3ft SSE swell with a moderate period of 15 seconds. The wind goes light cross-onshore, not perfect, but the energy is climbing (694) and it’s a proper groundswell.
That trend continues into Monday the 20th of July. Morning kicks off with 5ft SSE swell, still that 13-second period making it feel good, and a light cross-onshore breeze. The energy is up (731). By the afternoon, we’re looking at 4ft from the SSE, with a clean light onshore wind.
And then Tuesday the 21st of July morning is the standout. It’s the biggest we see, with 5ft swell coming from the S, a period of 13 seconds, and light cross-onshore winds. The wave energy is pushing nearly 1000 (987). That’s a proper swell. It’s right on the edge of being big for beginners, but for the experienced crew, this is the most fun we’re likely to see. It’s still a beach break, and with that long period, it might wall up a bit straight, but the power is there.
So, the call is simple: sit tight through a long, flat spell. The best window is that final run from the afternoon of the 19th through to the morning of the 21st of July. Tuesday morning the 21st is the pick of the bunch.
Rusty.
