Table - best surf conditions forecast for Campus Point over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll level with ya – the next 16 days at Campus Point are a real mixed bag. We’re not talking about any massive, ground-shaking swells, but there are a few windows where the conditions line up just right for a decent session. The overall pattern is a series of small to moderate pulses, mostly from the WNW, with a few periods of clean, glassy conditions that’ll make it worth paddling out. The water temp is sitting right about average for this time of year, so no wetsuit drama.
The first real standout is Thursday morning, July 9. We’ve got a clean 4ft swell rolling in from the WNW, with a period of 9 seconds, and a nice cross-offshore breeze from the WSW at 9 mph. The combined energy is sitting at 480, which is moderate but punchy enough for a point break like Campus Point. The wind is going to keep it smooth, so expect some fun, workable waves. It’s the best on offer early on.
Friday morning, July 10, drops off a touch to 3ft, still from the WNW, but the wind goes cross-shore at 6 mph. It’s surfable, but not as clean as Thursday. By the afternoon, the swell drops to 2ft and shifts to a long-period 15-second SSW groundswell, which is a bit too straight for a beach break, but at a point like Campus, it might wrap in nicely. The energy is weaker at 278, so it’s a small-wave option.
The middle of the week, from Monday July 13 through Wednesday July 15, shows some promise. Tuesday morning, July 14, is glassy with a 3ft WNW swell, but the real highlight is Wednesday, July 15. The morning kicks off with a clean 4ft WNW swell (309 energy) and a cross-offshore breeze. Then the afternoon bumps up to 5ft, still from the WNW, with a period of 9 seconds and the same clean cross-offshore wind. The energy jumps to 443, making this the biggest, most powerful swell of the whole period. The waves will be solid, with some push, and the wind will keep them lined up. This is a prime session for intermediate and up – it’s the best on offer.
After that, we get a long gap. From Thursday July 16 through to Tuesday July 22, the surf gets small and inconsistent, with a lot of marginal conditions. The swell drops to 2ft or 2ft, and the wind is often onshore or cross-onshore. There’s a brief moment on Sunday afternoon, July 19, with a 2ft SW groundswell (17 seconds, 335 energy) and a clean cross-offshore breeze, but it’s tiny. This stretch is a real lull.
Then, on Wednesday afternoon, July 22, we get a late spike: a 4ft WNW swell, but with a short period of only 6 seconds. The energy is 246, and it’s clean with a cross-offshore breeze, so it’s rideable, but that short period means it’ll be a bit lumpy and less powerful. Not a standout, but a last chance before the window closes.
The final few days, from July 23 onward, are poor again, with small, weak waves and onshore winds. No real reason to get excited.
So, to wrap it up: the best windows are Thursday morning, July 9, for a clean, consistent session, and Wednesday, July 15, for the biggest, cleanest swell of the bunch. Crowds are likely at Campus Point, especially on those days, so get in early. The water’s average temp for the season, so just your usual summer gear.
Rusty.
