Table - best surf conditions forecast for Campus Point over the next 16 days.
Hey folks, Rusty here. I'm looking at the charts for the Santa Barbara area, and we've got a bit of a slow start, but there's definitely some light at the end of the tunnel.
First things first, don't even think about paddling out on Tuesday the 7th. It's flat and not worth your time. The ocean needs a nap. The first real chance to get wet comes on Wednesday the 8th, but even then it's a mixed bag.
The absolute best session of the entire forecast is shaping up for Thursday morning, July 9th. That's the one to circle on your calendar. Campus Point will have some clean 4ft swell from the WNW, riding in on a 9-second interval. The wind is gonna be light and offshore from the WSW at about 9 mph, putting a nice face on the waves. The water energy packs a moderate punch at 681. The water temp is about 64°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. With consistent waves and those winds, you'll be smiling.
Wednesday afternoon the 8th will see bigger waves, around 6ft, but the period is a short 7 seconds – that's windswell, which is gonna be bumpy and disorganized. The energy is still moderate at 570, but it's not going to be quality.
Friday the 10th has a tiny window in the afternoon with a clean 2ft groundswell showing a very long 18-second period and light cross-off winds. The energy is moderate at 322. That long period means some real push, but on a small wave.
From Saturday the 11th all the way through to the end of the next week, we hit a major lull. It's gonna be flat and messy, so don't even bother loading the boards. That's a solid five days of nothing.
Then, it starts to look interesting again on Saturday morning, July 18th. This is your second highlight. We're looking at a small but clean 2ft groundswell from the SW with a *very* long 18-second period, and light offshore winds from the SW. The energy climbs back to a moderate 395. That's a great call for a log or a fish – the conditions should be glassy and the lines will be long. The swell direction is right in the sweet spot for Campus Point.
A few other afternoons like the 14th and 15th have surfable waves, but the conditions are just 'okay'. Nothing to get too excited about. Remember, Campus Point can draw a crowd often, so for that Thursday the 9th, get there early.
So there you go. A slow start, a killer Thursday morning, a week off, and a nice clean weekend session on the 18th. Mark your cards.
Rusty.
