The Lowdown

Righto, grab a coffee and settle in. Let's look at what's coming up for Campus Point.

The next couple of weeks are a bit of a mixed bag, to be honest. We're not looking at any massive, ground-shaking swells, but there are a few windows where it'll clean up nicely. The water temp is sitting about average for this time of year, so no need to dig out the thickest rubber just yet.

The first few days are a bit of a write-off for anything decent. The surf is small and the conditions are ordinary. Wednesday the 15th through to Friday the 17th, you're looking at knee-high dribble with a cross-off or cross-onshore wind that just messes with the lines. The energy is weak, with combined swell readings bouncing between 162 and 277, so it's a good time to clean the wax off your boards or go for a paddle.

The weekend of the 19th and 20th isn't much better, but Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon show a little flicker of life. The wind swings to a light cross-off, cleaning things up. The swell is still tiny, around 2ft, but with a period of 16-17 seconds from the SW, it's a long-period groundswell that will wrap in nicely. The combined energy ticks up to the 329-351 range. It's not going to be epic, but it'll be a fun, longboard-friendly wave. The crowds are *often* here, so expect a few heads in the water.

Now, for the real standout. Mark your calendar for Saturday the 25th of July. The morning looks like the pick of the entire forecast. We're expecting a clean 2ft wave from the SSW, with a solid 21-second period. That is a very long-period groundswell, and it'll wrap around the point beautifully. The wind is a light cross-off, so the faces will be smooth. The combined energy is a solid 683, which is a proper step up. This is the one to aim for.

Sunday the 26th of July is also looking promising. The morning session has a bit more size, with 5ft of clean S swell, but the period drops to 14 seconds. The combined energy is a hefty 1130, which is a lot of power for a 5ft wave. It'll be a bit punchier, but still clean with that light offshore wind. This is a solid option for the weekend after next.

The following week, into the 27th and 28th, we see a drop-off in quality. The swell hangs around but the winds become more cross-shore, and the energy starts to fade. There are a few clean afternoons, but nothing that hits the peaks of that Saturday morning.

So, to wrap it up: the first week is mostly a dud, but the second half of the 16-day window has a couple of genuine highlights. The absolute standout is the morning of Saturday the 25th of July at Campus Point – that long-period groundswell with clean conditions will be a treat.
