The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a good look at what Campus Point has on offer for the next couple of weeks.
Overall, it's a quiet spell. We’re not looking at any big, powerful swells, but there are a few windows where the conditions come together nicely for a clean session on that point setup.
We start things off on Tuesday the 18th. The water is sitting at 70°, which is a good 7° warmer than average for this time of year – that’s very unusual and a real treat. The surf itself is tiny, only 1 ft to 2 ft from the S/SSW with a long 16 second period, generating moderate wave energy (191). The light cross-offshore breeze from the WSW will keep the surface tidy, but honestly, it’s pretty ordinary with such little swell.
Wednesday the 19th is the first true standout of the period. The morning swell bumps up slightly to 2 ft from the SSW with a 15-16 second period, and the energy picks up to a moderate 283. The wind remains a light, clean cross-off from the WSW. It's not huge, but for a long period groundswell like this on a point break, the shape should be really fun. Expect clean little lines.
The pattern of tiny surf and light wind carries on through Thursday the 20th and into the weekend. We see some WNW windswell creep in around Saturday the 22nd with a short 8 second period, but the winds turn more cross than offshore, making it a scratchy affair.
We hit another dry spell until the end of the first week and into the second. There’s nothing really worth jumping for until Wednesday the 27th and Thursday the 28th. On Thursday the 28th, we see a pulse of WNW windswell at 3 ft with an 8 second period, but the cross-off wind keeps it rideable. Energy readings are moderate (298). It’s not the best shape, but it’s a chance to get wet.
The real highlight of the second week, and probably the best on offer for the whole outlook, lands on Saturday the 29th. The swell hangs in at 3 ft from the WNW with a 9 second period, and the energy jumps up to a solid 365. The wind in the morning looks perfect with a light 6 mph cross-off breeze from the WSW. This will give us the cleanest, most consistent waves of the whole period. It’s a long-range call, so keep an eye on it, but it looks promising.
After that, the swell fades back to tiny SSW pulses with light wind into the end of August and the start of September. There’s a final mention for Wednesday the 2nd of September with a 5 ft WNW swell, but that has a short 6 second period and a cross-onshore wind, making it a bit of a mess. The wave energy is strong (404), but the quality won't be there for a paddle.
So, to sum it up: Wednesday the 19th is your best early bet for clean, fun waves, and Saturday the 29th looks like the standout session of the month. The rest is mostly for the dedicated logger or someone just wanting a paddle.
Rusty.
