Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at the surf prospects for the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got a real mixed bag of conditions ahead, with a few windows of clean, lined-up surf, but plenty of meh in between. The first real run of decent waves kicks off Tuesday, July 7th, so don't expect much before then.
On Tuesday morning, July 7th, Campus Point will be the spot to be. We’ve got a nice 0.7m SW groundswell rolling in with a long 18-second period. That’s pure energy, and with a light cross-offshore breeze, it’s gonna be clean as a whistle. The water is sitting at 64°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, a nice bonus. Combined swell energy is moderate at (542) – plenty of push for your longboard or a fun twinny. This is the standout of the whole outlook, no doubt. Early morning session is the call.
The rest of the week stays surfable but gets a bit messier. Wednesday the 8th has similar small morning waves (0.8m SSW, 16 seconds), but the wind stays clean. Keep an eye on Wednesday afternoon though: a short-period 1.7m WNW windswell pops up (period just 7 seconds). That’s a lot of bumpy water for the point. It’s rideable but not the good stuff. Thursday and Friday mornings hold onto fun, waist-high WNW swell (1.0m to 1.2m, 9 seconds) with light winds, perfect for a few cruisy turns before the wind picks up.
We’ve then got a bit of a lull over the weekend of July 11th and 12th, with tiny, weak swell and some onshore or crossed-up wind. The energy drops way off, down to (207) on Saturday afternoon, and the conditions just aren’t there. That stretch is worth skipping.
The next notable run comes back into the window around Wednesday afternoon, July 15th, through Friday, July 17th. Clean cross-offshore winds and a building 1.1m to 1.3m WNW swell (period creeping up to 8-9 seconds) will bring back some grunt, with moderate combined energy up to (391). It’s not as special as the Tuesday the 7th session, but it’s solid, consistent, and clean. Good for a mid-week paddle.
Looking way out, the second week flattens out again. The morning of Sunday, July 19th, has a real surprise: tiny 0.6m SW groundswell (17-second period) under glassy conditions. Swell energy jumps to (325) for that session, so those long lines will have some push despite the height. If you’re after a quiet, glassy morning on the log, that’s the one. The following Monday morning the 20th is similar but a touch weaker. After that, it goes back to small and crossed-up into Tuesday the 21st, finishing with a 1.5m, 6-second WNW windswell Tuesday afternoon which will just be lumpy.
Stay on it. Rusty.
