Table - best surf conditions forecast for Campus Point over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s talk about the only break worth watching for this whole stretch: Campus Point.
First things first, don’t get your hopes up for the first couple of weeks. We’re looking at a long, flat start with tiny, weak swell – combined energy barely cracking triple digits most days. From Friday July 10th right through mid-month, swell heights are mostly 1 to 2 feet. The water temp is right around average for this time of year – nothing unusual. Winds are light, mostly side or side-offshore, with a few glassy moments on Saturday afternoon and Monday morning the 20th, but the waves are just too small to get excited about.
The first real sign of life hits on Wednesday July 15th. That afternoon, the WNW swell bumps to 5ft with a short period, and the energy hits 322 (moderate). The wind is side-offshore and clean. It’s surfable, but still just a small step up.
Thursday the 16th through the weekend of the 19th stays in that same so-so zone. Swell hangs between 2ft and 4ft, mostly from the WNW and SSW. Energy readings are in the 300s, but the waves are inconsistent and the quality is ordinary. You’ll get clean windows – like Saturday afternoon the 18th and Sunday afternoon the 19th – but nothing memorable.
Now, here’s the one true standout in this whole 16-day run. Friday July 24th is the day. That morning, the swell jumps to 5ft from the WNW with a short period, but the wind is glassy. Zero wind. Energy is 401 (moderate to strong). That’s the best combo of size and clean surface we see. Then Friday afternoon, the swell builds to 8ft from the WNW with a period of 7 seconds. That’s expert territory for size, and the short period means it’ll be powerful and a bit lumpy. Energy is 586 (strong). With clean side-offshore winds, this is the biggest, most powerful push of the outlook. It’s a long way out, so keep an eye on it, but if it holds, Campus Point late on Friday the 24th is the best on offer.
Saturday morning July 25th still has some reasonable 4ft WNW swell left, but the energy is fading a touch (648, still strong) and the wind is side-shore, so it won’t be as clean.
Overall, it’s a slow run until that final Friday. A lot of flat days in between. But when that 24th hits, it could be worth the wait for the experienced crew.
Rusty, signing off.
