Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right, let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks here at Pescaderos. It’s gonna be a real slow burner, with a lot of waiting for a couple of promising days.
Straight off the bat, the water is sitting at 63°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s a little bonus. But the surf? For a beginner-friendly, fairly consistent spot like this, it’s mostly going to be a struggle. The first solid chunk of time throws up tiny, weak swells. Through Thursday the 2nd and into the first week, we’re looking at ankle-snappers around 1ft to 2ft. The energy is low, with combined swell energy numbers in the low to mid 200s and 300s – just not enough oomph. Winds are mostly light and cross-shore, but that early period is plagued by “marginal” and “poor” surf conditions. Honestly, you’d be better off doing something else until we get a bit more life in the water.
The first real flicker of hope shows up on Tuesday the 7th. The swell starts to nudge up to 2ft, and by Tuesday afternoon, the wind goes light cross-offshore from the west at 9 mph, cleaning things right up. The combined energy hits 453 – that’s moderate wave energy, a real step up. Still small for most, but for a beginner on a longboard or a foiler, that Tuesday afternoon (07 July) could be a real window. The swell is coming from the SSW at 18 seconds, a long period groundswell, which will wrap in nicely here.
The standout, without a doubt, is Thursday the 9th of July. Thursday morning is a bit messy with a lumpy WNW windswell, but Thursday afternoon? That’s where it gets real. We get a 7ft swell from the WNW, with a clean offshore wind from the west at 6 mph. That’s a quiet, clean setup. The combined energy is 638 – strong wave energy. Now, 7ft is getting up there; it’s not for beginners anymore. This is expert territory, but for the crew that can handle it, that Thursday afternoon is going to be the best session of the entire forecast. The period is short at 7 seconds (windswell), so the waves will be a bit crumbly and close together, not lasting as long, but when it’s that size and clean at Pescaderos, you don’t complain.
After that high point, it tapers off quickly. Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th see the swell drop back to 4ft and then 2ft, with winds turning onshore and cross-onshore, making it messy again. The second week, from around the 12th onward, is pretty quiet. Most days show 2ft to 3ft of weak, short-period slop, with combined energies dropping back into the 200s. There’s a few morning windows with light winds, but the surf just isn’t there to get excited about. It’s a real flat spell settling in.
So, to sum it up: write off the first week, keep an eye on Tuesday afternoon the 7th for a small, clean window, and circle Thursday 9th of July afternoon in red – that’s the big one for the experienced surfers. After that, it’s back to waiting.
