The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s cooking at Pescaderos over the next two weeks. This is a beginner-friendly spot, fairly consistent, and it can get a little crowded sometimes. Right now, Tuesday morning July 14, it’s flat as a pancake – 1 ft of weak SW swell with a 13-second period, cross-shore wind, and combined energy of just 126. Not worth wetting a board. The whole first day is the same story.
We’ve got a dry spell until Wednesday afternoon July 15, when a 5 ft WNW swell shows up, but it’s only 6 seconds – that’s windswell, not proper groundswell. The wind goes cross-offshore and clean, but the wave quality is marginal. Thursday and Friday keep pushing small, junky waves in the 3 to 5 ft range, mostly from the WNW, with cross-shore or cross-onshore winds. Not great.
The real pick-up starts around July 22, Wednesday afternoon – 4 ft SSE swell with a 16-second period, energy hitting 709. Winds are light cross-onshore, but it’s still only a marginal session. Then we hit the standout: Thursday July 23, afternoon. Glassy conditions, light SE breeze, 4 ft SSE swell with a 14-second period, energy 889. That’s the cleanest, most inviting wave of the whole forecast. The direction isn’t dead on the optimum WSW, but the length and glass make it a proper fun session for beginners and intermediates alike. Expect some company – crowds are possible.
After that, the swell holds through Friday July 24 and Saturday July 25 morning, with 4–5 ft S swell, 14–13 seconds, and light cross-shore winds. Those are decent, but the afternoon on Saturday gets chopped up by a 12 mph cross-shore. By Sunday July 26, size drops back to 2 ft and the energy fades. The rest of the outlook is small and marginal again.
So if you’re looking to get wet, circle July 23 afternoon – that’s the one to aim for. The rest is mostly small and average. A few days of wait, then a good window. Keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
