Table - best surf conditions forecast for Pescaderos over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about the surf for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, for the first week and a half, it’s going to be a bit of a grind. We’ve got a lot of small, weak energy and conditions that are just kinda ordinary. The combined energy is mostly in the low to mid 200s (205-330) early on, which is pretty weak. There’s a promising window further out, but we’ve got to get through the quiet stuff first.
For the first few days, from Friday the 10th right through to the 11th, it’s tiny. We’re looking at waves around 2 ft to 3 ft, with a mix of cross and glassy winds. The highlight of that early period is a brief window on Saturday afternoon, the 11th, when the wind goes glassy at Pescaderos. The swell is only 2 ft from the SSW, but it’ll be clean. The combined energy is weak (186) but if you’re desperate for a log, it’s the only time the conditions are actually nice. Crowds are possible here.
Then we hit a real dry spell. From Sunday the 12th through to Wednesday the 22nd, it’s just poor surf conditions or very ordinary days. The swell is tiny, mostly 1.0 ft to 2 ft, and the wind is mostly cross or light cross-off. The combined energy dips as low as 101. It’s a proper flat spell. Not much to get excited about.
The first real sign of life comes on Wednesday the 15th, in the afternoon. Swell bumps up to 5 ft from the WNW, with a short period of 8 seconds. The wind is cross-off and clean, and the combined energy ticks up to 322. That’s the first time the forecast says “expect good surf conditions.” It’s not huge, but it’s a proper change from the dribble.
Now, the standout for the whole period is on Friday morning, the 24th of July. That’s the one to circle. Pescaderos is looking at 5 ft of swell from the WNW, glassy conditions, and the combined energy reading 417. That’s moderate wave energy, and you’ll feel it. The wind is dead calm, and the water temp is about average for the time of year. It’s an ideal beginner-friendly size, but it’s clean and punchy. This is the best session on offer.
Later that afternoon, the swell jumps to 8 ft with a short period of 7 seconds and combined energy of 603. That’s strong energy, but it’s a short-period wind swell, a bit raw and choppy. It’s really only for the experienced crew. The morning is the pick.
The following Saturday morning, the 25th, still has some leftover energy at 4 ft from the WNW with 648 combined energy, but the wind is cross-on, so it won’t be as clean.
So, the call is simple: wait until the 24th, get there early for the glassy 5 ft swell. That’s your wave.
Rusty.
