Table - best surf conditions forecast for Pescaderos over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get into it for Pescaderos. The next couple of weeks are a bit of a mixed bag, with a few clean windows but no real standout, pulse-pumping swell. We’re looking at a run of mostly small, marginal surf, so keep your expectations in check.
The water temp is sitting at 64°, which is a touch warmer than what we usually feel this time of year. Not a massive change, but you might notice it.
Our first chance to get wet kicks off this Tuesday afternoon, July 7th. We’ve got a clean 3ft swell rolling in from the SSW with a very long 18-second period. That big period means real groundswell energy, with long lulls between sets making the paddle out easier. The combined energy is moderate at 442. The wind is a cross-offshore breeze at 12 mph, keeping the surface clean. For a beginner-friendly spot like Pescaderos, this is about as good as it gets in this forecast. The swell is small, so it’s not going to be pumping, but it’ll be clean and rideable. Crowds can be an issue here sometimes, so get out early.
Wednesday afternoon, July 8th, sees a bit of a bump up. The swell jumps to 6ft, but the period crashes down to 7 seconds – that’s short-period, wind-driven stuff. The direction swings to the WNW with a cross-offshore breeze. At that size, it’s pushing the limit for beginners, and with the short period, the waves will be a bit crumbly and less powerful. The energy is moderate (570). It’s surfable, but it won’t have the punch of that long-period Tuesday morning.
After that, things start to dribble away. From Thursday, July 9th, right through to Saturday, July 19th, we’ve got a long stretch of puny waves, mostly under 3ft. The winds are all over the shop – cross, cross-on, a few cross-off – but with swell that small, it’s mostly going to be flat or ankle-snappers. The energy readings drop into the low hundreds, nothing to get excited about. There are several days in there with "poor surf conditions" flags, so you’re better off doing something else.
The one glimmer in that second week comes on the afternoon of Saturday, July 18th. We get a pulse of 2ft, 18-second period swell from the SW with the energy building to 395. That’s promising for a late-afternoon session if the wind cooperates, but it’s a long way off.
Looking way out to Monday, July 20th, we see a touch more energy, with 3ft S swell and a long 13-second period in the morning, then a 2ft SW swell with 16 seconds that afternoon with clean cross-offshore winds. The energy is moderate (465 and 379). That afternoon session on the 20th looks like the pick of the second week, but we're talking over a week away, so don't book your flights.
Then it’s back to the small stuff. Wednesday morning, July 22nd is tiny and then Wednesday afternoon, July 22nd shows clean 2ft SW swell with that 14-second period and cross-off breeze, but again, it's very small.
Honestly, for this 16-day stretch, nothing is truly a standout. The best bet is the clean, long-period, small waves on Tuesday July 7th. That’s the one to try and sneak a session on. After that, it’s a whole lot of waiting.
Rusty.
