The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at the next 16 days.
First up, we’ve got a bit of a flat spell to start. The only break on the radar is Rincon - The Cove, and it’s a consistent point break that’s fairly exposed. The water temperature is sitting at 70°, which is a whopping 6°F warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s very unusual, so you’ll be comfortable in a spring suit or even a shorty.
The overall pattern is a long, drawn-out period of very small, weak surf. There’s no real standout session, but the best of a very ordinary run looks to be on Tuesday, September 8th. The morning will see a small 3ft SSW swell with a period of 11 seconds, giving us a combined energy of 192 (moderate). The wind is a light WSW cross-off at 10 km/h, which will keep the surface clean. The afternoon drops to 2ft from the S. It’s surfable, but nothing to write home about. Don’t expect any power.
From Wednesday the 9th through to the end of the forecast window, the swell drops further to 1ft or 2ft, mostly from the SW. The periods are all over the place, from a very long 19 seconds down to 8 seconds, but with that tiny height, the long period just means the waves will be super soft and won’t really stand up. The combined energy mostly sits in the 100-200 range, indicating weak wave energy. The wind is generally light and cross or cross-off, keeping the surface reasonably clean, but the lack of swell means you’ll be fighting for dribbles rather than waves.
The one interesting thing is the long-period swells (17-19 seconds) that pop up on the 10th, 16th, 18th, and 20th. For a point break like Rincon, that long period can actually be a benefit, allowing the wave to wrap in nicely. But with the height barely breaking 2ft, it’s not going to translate into a rideable wave. It’s a tease.
So, the honest truth is there are no good surf options in the 16-day window. This is a blank run for the area. The swell is just too small and weak to produce anything worthwhile. The only thing you can do is keep an eye on the forecasts – conditions can change, and it tends not to stay this poor for long.
Rusty, signing off.
