Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rincon - The Cove over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s chew the fat on the next couple of weeks. We’re looking at a long, slow grind with very little to get the heart pumping for a while.
To be straight with you, the first week and a half is pretty dead. The energy is low, and most of the time the conditions are just not happening. We’ve got a long stretch with no real standouts to recommend. The first real flicker of something decent doesn’t show up until Thursday, the 23rd of July, and even then, it’s not a slam dunk.
For the best of what’s on offer, you’ll want to point your truck towards Rincon - The Cove. It’s a consistent point break that’s fairly exposed to the swell. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so you’re fine in a spring suit.
The standout moment arrives on Thursday afternoon, the 23rd of July. We’ll see a clean, cross-offshore breeze from the WSW at 6 mph, which is a major win for clean waves. The swell will be coming from the S at 3 ft, with a period of 13 seconds. That’s a solid, moderate wave energy, and with the optimum swell direction from the NNW, this southerly is a bit off-angle, but the clean conditions and the point break setup should still offer some fun, lined-up waves. The quality is good enough to get out there, and crowds are a possibility at Rincon, so expect some company.
The following day, Friday afternoon, the 24th of July, is a similar story. Another clean afternoon with the same WSW wind at 6 mph, and the swell holding at 3 ft from the S with a 13-second period. The energy is a bit stronger, and the forecast is for good surf. It’s a solid option if you missed the Thursday session.
The rest of the period is a mix of poor surf with cross-onshore or cross-shore winds, and very ordinary conditions. The waves are small, and the wind is rarely your friend. It’s a frustrating outlook for the most part, but those two afternoons towards the end of the month are your best bet. Keep your eyes on the forecast, because it can change.
Rusty out.
