The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
We're looking at a pretty flat spell ahead, so don't be in a rush to grab your board. The first 16 days are looking lean, with only a few windows of marginal surf at Rincon - The Cove. The water is sitting at 70°F, which is a whopping 7°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that's very unusual, so you might not even need a spring suit for a paddle.
The first real sign of life comes on Thursday, the 6th of August. The waves are tiny, around 1ft from the SW, but the winds are light and cross-offshore, making for clean lines. The combined energy is weak (87). It's not a day to set the world on fire, but it's surfable.
Friday the 7th of August shows a bit more promise. We've got a long-period swell starting to show, 1.0ft from the SSW with a period of 19 seconds. That's a proper groundswell, but it's very small. Combined energy is moderate (121). The wind stays light off the land, so it'll be clean. This long period means the sets will be a bit more spread out, but the shape should be better. Keep an eye on it.
The following week, things get a little more interesting but still nothing to get too excited about. From Wednesday the 12th of August through to Tuesday the 18th, we see a series of days with "surfable but very ordinary conditions" and clean, cross-off winds. The swell is consistently tiny, around 1.0ft to 2ft from the SSW. The standout in this stretch is the afternoon of Friday the 14th of August, where the combined energy picks up to 201 (moderate) with a clean 1ft SSW swell. Also, the morning of Sunday the 16th of August has a 2ft SSW swell with clean light winds and moderate energy (169).
If I had to pick the best on offer, it would be the afternoon of Friday the 14th of August at Rincon - The Cove. The winds are clean cross-off, the swell is a tiny 1ft from the SSW, but the energy is the highest we see (201). It's nothing to travel for, but for a quiet session on a longboard, it might just be the pick of a very flat bunch. Remember, crowds are possible here, so expect a few others with the same idea.
This is a long-range call, so take it with a pinch of salt, but it's the best we've got.
Rusty.
