The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get real about the next couple of weeks for this spot.

The swell is tiny and the wind is a bit of a problem. It kicks off Friday, July 31st, with a 2 ft SSW swell, 14-second period, but the WSW wind is blowing cross-offshore. It’s clean, but the waves are nothing special. The combined energy is (238), which is moderate, but it’s just not enough to get your heart racing. Saturday, August 1st, is the same story, maybe a little smaller.

Rincon - The Cove is a consistent point, so it usually grabs whatever swell is around, but the wind is coming from the SW and WSW, making it cross or cross-offshore. Water temp is about average for this time of year. The only real positive is the light breeze, which keeps the surface clean. The standout is the morning of Saturday, August 1st, with a 2 ft west swell at 9 seconds, and a light WSW wind. The combined energy is (161), which is moderate. It’s small, but it’s the most rideable window. Crowds are *sometimes* an issue, so you might see a few heads.

Sunday, August 2nd, the wind gets more cross and the waves turn poor. The same pattern drags on through the whole first week. The second week is even worse. The swell stays tiny, often under 2 ft, and the period jumps up to 19 seconds on Friday, August 7th. That’s a very long period groundswell, but it’s small and the wind is cross. That long period will make it break too straight for a point, and the energy is moderate (120). Not worth it.

The biggest gap of no real action is from August 2nd all the way to August 15th. The few times the score is a “1” still mean the waves are very ordinary. The only glimmer is the morning of August 8th, with 2 ft SSW swell at 18 seconds and a light WSW wind. The combined energy is (147), which is moderate. Clean, but tiny.

For beginners, anything over 5 ft is too big, and we don’t have that. For experts, these waves are just too weak. The forecast is solid for the first few days, but the long-range shows nothing to get excited about.

Rusty out.
