The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at the next couple of weeks. It’s gonna be a bit of a slow burn, but there’s a late spike that’s got my attention.

We’re starting off with a long stretch of small, clean, but pretty gutless surf. The first real recommendation doesn’t pop up until Sunday afternoon, the 6th of September. Before that, you’re looking at a few days of tiny waves – think knee-high dribblers with light cross-shore breezes. The water is sitting at 71°F, which is a massive 7°F warmer than usual for this time of year, so you’ll be comfortable in a shorty or even boardies.

The standout window is Sunday afternoon, the 6th of September, through to Tuesday afternoon, the 8th. Rincon - The Cove is your spot. It’s a consistent point break that’s fairly exposed to the swell, and it’s licking its lips for a south-southwest groundswell. On Sunday we’ll see 3ft of swell from the S with a long 14-second period, and the combined energy is a solid 402 (moderate energy). The wind goes light and cross-offshore in the afternoon, making for clean, lined-up waves. Monday and Tuesday afternoons are similar, with 3ft of SSW swell and gentle cross-off breezes. This is a quality point, so expect a few heads in the water – it’s listed as “sometimes” crowded, and for good reason.

Then the forecast goes quiet again from Wednesday the 9th through Friday the 11th, with small, ordinary waves. But hold onto your leash, because Friday afternoon, the 11th of September, throws a curveball. A 7ft, short-period (7 seconds) WNW swell shows up with a massive energy reading of 750 (strong energy). That’s a lot of juice, but it’s short period and a bit of a windswell. It’s a marginal call, but it’s a decent size. With a moderate cross-offshore breeze, this could be a fun, punchy afternoon for more experienced surfers, though it might be a bit raw and bumpy.

After that, the surf dries up into the second week. From Saturday the 12th onward, we’re back to tiny, weak swells. The 17th of September shows a very long-period 22-second SSW swell, but it’s only 0.7ft, so it’s all show and no go. Don’t hold your breath.

So, to sum it up: the best bet is the Sunday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon window at Rincon - The Cove. Get on it while it’s clean. The 7ft spike on Friday the 11th is a wildcard for the brave. Otherwise, it’s a lot of waiting for small stuff.

Rusty.
