Alright, Rusty here, and I’m staring at the next 16 days for this spot. It’s a rough patch, no two ways about it. The first week is a total write-off with the wind and swell fighting each other. We’re looking at a long stretch of poor and marginal conditions, a lot of time just fighting the chop.
Right now, on Wednesday, July 8th, we’ve got a 3 ft swell from the southwest, but it’s hammered by a 20 km/h cross-on northwest wind. The water is a warm 61°, almost 5° warmer than usual, which is a real oddity. Not good for surfing.
Thursday the 9th through the weekend is a mess. The swell builds to 5-7 ft, but it’s all cross-on or onshore winds. The combined swell energy is moderate to strong (701 to 1361), but it’s all blown out. Friday morning the 10th has a 7 ft WNW swell, but with a short 9-second period and cross-on wind, it’s just a lumpy, choppy mess. Too big for beginners, and the conditions make it only for experts, and even they’ll be hating it.
The only window that’s even worth a mention is on the 16th and 17th of July. Thursday the 16th, we get a 6 ft WNW swell with a light 10 km/h onshore wind from the west. The energy is 695 (moderate). It’s still marginal, but the light wind could clean it up. By Friday the 17th, the wind is still light, and the swell is 5 ft from the WNW, with a 9-second period. The energy is 741 (moderate). This is the best of a bad lot. The wind is light cross-onshore, so it’ll be a little bumpy, but it’s rideable. The sets won’t be consistent, but for a spot like this, it’s a chance to get a few waves.
After that, from the 18th to the 23rd, the swell just drops off a cliff. The waves are 2-3 ft, with some long-period 16-18 second groundswell from the southwest, but it’s weak and the energy is low (260 to 575). It’s a total dead zone for a proper paddle session. The long-period stuff is better for a point break or reef, not a beach break.
The one standout, if you can call it that, is Friday the 17th of July. It’s the only day where the conditions are even close to surfable. 5 ft of WNW swell, 9 seconds, and light wind. It’s not a classic, but it’s our only shot. The rest of the forecast is a bust.
Rusty.
