Majors Bay Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking at Majors Bay over the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, it’s a slow start. We’ve got a few days of small, junky surf before anything really gets going. The water temp is sitting at about 80°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no need to dig out the steamer just yet.

The first real window of opportunity kicks off Thursday afternoon, the 10th of September. We’ll see a bump from the east at 4 ft, but it’s a short-period 8-second windswell, so it’s gonna be a bit crumbly. The real good news is that the wind goes glassy in the afternoon. It’s not a standout, but it’s a start.

Friday the 11th looks better. The morning session is the pick of the early period – a 4 ft swell from the east, still a short period, but the wind is dead calm. That glassy surface will make it super clean. The combined energy is moderate (291), so there’s a bit of push there.

The next real standout, and the one I’d circle on the calendar, is Thursday the 17th of September. The afternoon gets a solid 6 ft from the east, but here’s the kicker – it’s a short period of 6 seconds, so it’s gonna be a bit fat and messy. Still, the wave energy is strong (669), and the wind is glassy, so it’ll be clean. Then Friday the 18th through the weekend, the swell drops back to 3 ft, but the period stretches out to 15-16 seconds. That’s proper groundswell. The energy stays strong (over 800) and the wind is glassy or clean. That’s your classic long-period groundswell, meaning better shaped waves and longer lulls between sets. It’s best for the point section of the break here, as it might close out on the beach.

Then we get a bit of a reset before the real gold. Tuesday the 22nd of September is the absolute best on offer. The morning sees a 6 ft swell from the east with a 12-second period, combined energy is a massive 982 – that’s strong wave energy. The wind is glassy, dead calm. The afternoon holds at 5 ft with the same period, and the energy is still massive (842). This is the sweet spot – clean, powerful, consistent.

Wednesday the 23rd of September afternoon is a very close second. You get a 5 ft swell from the east, a 13-second period, and a combined energy of 1006 – that’s very strong. The wind is glassy again. This is excellent surf for experienced surfers, as the size is over 5 ft, so it might be a bit much for beginners. The long period means it’ll peel nicely down the point.

Overall, the first week is a bit of a build-up, with the real gems coming in the second week. The 22nd and 23rd of September are the dates to aim for – glassy conditions, strong groundswell, and manageable size for the experienced crew. Crowds are a possibility at Majors Bay, so get there early.
