The Lowdown
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for Oahu’s North Shore over the next couple of weeks.
We're looking at a solid run of clean, small-wave conditions, primarily at Waimea Rivermouth. There's no big swell on the horizon, but for a beginner-friendly spot like this, the consistency is a real positive. The water temp is sitting right on 79°, which is bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The action starts on Tuesday, July 14th. We've got a tiny 2ft groundswell from the west with a very long 16-second period pushing through. The combined energy is moderate at 383, and with a cross-offshore breeze, it's going to be clean. Tuesday afternoon actually looks a touch better with the energy jumping to 520 and the wind staying light, so expect some very tidy little waves.
Wednesday and Thursday the 15th and 16th are a bit average. The wind goes cross-shore and the energy drops, making for a marginal couple of days. You could still get a few, but it's nothing to get excited about. Friday the 17th clears up nicely with a glassy afternoon session and a tiny 2ft SSW swell giving us some clean, small waves.
The 19th of July, Sunday, is a standout because the swell size jumps up. You'll see 5ft to 7ft of short-period, 6 to 7-second wind swell from the east. The energy is solid at 412, and the wind is light and cross-offshore. This is the pick of the first week for a bit more push. It's a beach break setup, so the short period might make it a bit crumbly, but it's the biggest we've got. Monday the 20th morning is glassy with 4ft of east swell, another good call.
The second week has a few interesting pops. The 23rd of July, Thursday, sees a huge jump in energy with values hitting 650 from a very long-period SSW groundswell (21 seconds). The swell height is only 2ft, but that energy is massive. It will be super clean with glassy conditions in the afternoon. This is a tricky one – that long period might make the waves stand up too straight at the river mouth, but for a surfer who knows the spot, it could offer some really fun, groomed lines.
The 25th and 26th of July, Saturday and Sunday, also look really promising. Again, small swell heights (2ft to 3ft) but with strong energy readings (up to 645) and clean, cross-offshore winds. The consistency is there, and the quality is flagged as very good for those days.
Overall, there's no epic swell, but the consistency of clean, small surf is excellent. The standout window is the 19th of July for the biggest waves, and the 23rd to the 26th for the most energy and quality. For a beginner or longboarder, this is a golden run.
