Table - best surf conditions forecast for Waimea Rivermouth over the next 16 days.
Alright, it's Rusty, and we're looking at Waimea Rivermouth for the next couple of weeks. There's a bit of a mixed bag, but a few days are proper gems, so keep your eyes peeled.
We start off with some real surf on Saturday, July 11th. Waves are around 5 ft out of the east with a short 8-second period, and the combined swell energy is moderate at 474. The east-northeast cross-off breeze will keep it clean and manageable for beginners. But the real standout early on is Sunday, July 12th. The morning brings a smaller 2 ft swell from the south-west with a nice long period of 16 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 526 – that's moderate-strong. It means more punch, better shaped waves, and those longer lulls between sets make it easier to get out. With rain showers and a decent cross-off wind, the river mouth will be clean and juicy. It's not big, but it'll be quality.
Water temp is sitting right around average for this time of year, no crazy talk there.
Monday, July 13th keeps the same 5 ft east swell with 8 seconds and moderate-strong combined energy of 531. Morning session with cross-off wind is your best bet. Tuesday, July 14th sees the swell drop to 2 ft but it switches to a 16-second west groundswell. The combined energy is still decent at 449. The real beauty is Tuesday afternoon – offshore wind from the north-east, so you're looking at glassy, clean waves. Small but that west swell at a spot like this? It'll draw some nice lines.
Wednesday, July 15th is a bit rough in the morning with cross-shore wind and marginal surf. The afternoon is the better call with cross-off wind and a 3 ft west groundswell at 15 seconds. Thursday, July 16th is a sleeper. Swell is only 2 ft west at 14 seconds, but the afternoon shows *glassy* conditions. No wind. That's a golden window for a clean, peaceful session.
Friday, July 17th through the weekend, it gets ugly. Poor surf and marginal conditions, wind is up and the swell is messy. Saturday, July 18th and Sunday, July 19th are pretty weak, with very ordinary conditions and low energy. Monday, July 20th and Tuesday, July 21st are mostly forgettable – surfable but nothing to write home about.
Then things pick up again on Wednesday, July 22nd. The morning has 2 ft of south swell at 14 seconds, combined energy of 389, and a light cross-off breeze. Clean and small, but fun. Thursday, July 23rd is a solid pickup. The east swell returns at a consistent 4 ft with 7-second period, and the morning hits 489 combined energy – moderate-strong. Light wind keeps it clean all day.
Friday, July 24th starts with a glassy morning, 2 ft out of the south-southwest with a gorgeous 18-second period. That's long-period groundswell, real power. Combined energy is 372, moderate. It'll look smooth and peel nicely at the river mouth. But the big standout for the whole two weeks is Saturday, July 25th. Morning glass – zero wind – with a 2 ft south-southwest swell at 16 seconds and combined energy shooting to 470. Then the afternoon stays glassy, and the wind switches to the optimum north-northeast. That's offshore-wind glass for two sessions in a row. The swell builds to 5 ft from the east at 7 seconds. Afternoon combined energy is 417. That Saturday is the one. It won't be too heavy for anyone, and the river mouth might get a little busy since crowds are possible, but if you can get out there, do not miss it. Sunday, July 26th wraps it up with another glassy morning of 5 ft east swell, still no wind. Clean, fun, easy access.
So, mark Saturday, July 25th as your top pick – epic conditions, glassy, with a solid mix of swells. Sunday, July 12th morning is also a true standout for quality over size. The rest has some fun sessions, but those two days are the keepers.
Rusty.
