Table - best surf conditions forecast for Waimea Rivermouth over the next 16 days.
Alright, grab your board, let’s see what’s cooking here. We’re looking at a stretch that kicks off on Friday the 10th of July and runs through to the end of the month. It’s not a total write-off, but you’ll need to pick your moments.
The first real call is Friday the 10th. The morning session at Waimea Rivermouth is looking alright with 6 ft easterly swell, a short period of 8 seconds so it’s a bit junky, but the cross-off breeze (6 mph) keeps it clean. The combined energy is moderate at 411. Afternoon picks up a bit more wind (12 mph cross-off) with a similar 5 ft swell, still clean, energy a bit lower at 347. It’s surfable but nothing that’ll blow your mind.
Saturday the 11th is a bit of a story. The morning is weak with a tiny 2 ft swell from the SW, period of 18 seconds, but the wind is cross-off and clean. Not much push there. The afternoon though? That’s your standout. 6 ft from the east, 7-second period, but the combined energy jumps to 543 and the forecast says “very good surf conditions.” Cross-off wind at a gentle 9 mph. That’s a solid window for a beginner-friendly wave.
Sunday the 12th through Monday the 13th are consistent but nothing too dramatic. Swells hover around 5 ft to 2 ft, periods mostly short from the east or long from the SW. The Monday afternoon has a nice 5 ft east swell and energy at 579, with a “very good” tag. Cross-off wind, clean. Worth a look.
Now, Tuesday the 14th is a real treat. Morning goes glassy with a 2 ft west swell, period 16 seconds, energy at 524. That’s a long-period groundswell, perfect for a river mouth setup like this, and the glassy conditions will make it silky clean. Afternoon goes offshore from the NE at 9 mph, same swell, energy even higher at 596. This is the best on offer for the first week – clean, lined up, and manageable.
Wednesday the 15th through Thursday the 16th stays in the 2 ft to 3 ft range, west swell, cross-off winds, energy dropping to around 270-550. Good, not great.
Then we hit Friday the 17th – afternoon session brings a 7 ft east swell with a short 6-second period, energy at 540 and a “very good” rating. That’s a solid pulse, but at 7 ft and short period, it’ll be a bit lumpy and powerful – more for experienced surfers. Morning is 5 ft with the same short period, energy 367. It’ll be a handful.
From Saturday 18th into the next week, the swell backs right off. Most days show 1 ft to 3 ft, mostly south or SSW swells with longer periods (12-21 seconds). Energy is moderate, between 58 and 510. The Thursday the 23rd afternoon has a 2 ft SSW swell with a very long 20-second period, energy at 510 and a “very good” tag. That’s a proper groundswell but tiny – perfect for a longboard or a quiet paddle.
Crowds at Waimea Rivermouth are listed as “sometimes” busy, so you might have company on the better days, but nothing crazy.
Overall, the standout sessions are Tuesday the 14th (glassy morning, offshore afternoon with that long west swell) and the Friday afternoon the 10th if you want a bit more size. The second week is quieter, more for the patient surfer or the longboard enthusiast.
