Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright crew, Rusty here, breaking down the next 16 days at Waimea Rivermouth.
We’ve got surf from the get-go, no dead period to start. The overall vibe is a slow start that builds into some really clean, fun waves, then a shift to more short-period east swell before finishing with some smaller but glassy conditions.
First up, Friday July 3rd. We’ve got a small, long-period 2ft SSW groundswell with a 17-second gap between sets. Water temp is 79°, totally average for this time of year. Light cross-off breeze, clean conditions – an easy one to get warmed up on.
Saturday July 4th and Sunday July 5th, the swell picks up to 2ft – 3ft, still from the south, with super long periods up to 21 seconds. Wave energy is moderate, and the conditions are very good each session. Classic Rivermouth – those long-period south swells wrap in beautifully, and with the cross-off wind holding, it’ll be glassy and lined up.
Monday July 6th morning is your big standout. A 3ft SSW swell, 16-second period, and the combined energy hits a strong 802. The sky is clear, wind is a light cross-off – this is the best wave of the entire run. The afternoon is still okay but the morning is the call.
Tuesday July 7th through Thursday July 9th, the swell switches to the east and jumps up to 5ft – 6ft, but the period drops to a short 7-8 seconds. This is windswell, not ideal for the Rivermouth which prefers a south pulse. With 5ft+ waves, this is expert territory only. It’ll be a bit messy, but the wind stays clean.
Into the second week, from around July 10th, we drop back to smaller 3ft – 4ft east swell with light winds. Consistent and clean, but nothing epic.
Your two real targets: Monday July 6th morning is the undisputed champion. That 3ft south groundswell with the massive 17-second period and clean conditions is going to be perfection. Expect a few people out.
And in the second week, Tuesday July 14th morning is a real gem. A glassy, dead-calm 3ft west swell with a 16-second period. The combined energy is solid, and the wind is glass. If you see that on the forecast, do what you gotta do to get out there. That’s a special morning.
First week has the best quality. Second week is more of a pick-and-choose, but that one Tuesday morning is a gold star.
Rusty.
