Table - best surf conditions forecast for Acid Drops over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into the next 16 days for Acid Drops. This is a reef break, and it’s an advanced wave, so you need to know what you’re doing out there.
The overall pattern is a bit of a slow burn. We’ve got a long stretch of small, clean but pretty weak surf coming up. The first real standout doesn’t arrive until the end of the second week, so we’ve got some patience to practice.
Starting off from Tuesday the 7th, the swell is small, around 3ft from the SSW with a solid 14-second period. The wind is a fresh offshore from the ENE, so the surface is clean. But the wave energy is just moderate (362), and the call is for marginal conditions. It’s a session for the longboard or maybe a quiet water time. That tiny swell drops to 3ft by the afternoon.
Wednesday the 8th sees a bump in the morning, with a 6ft easterly swell, but it’s short period at 8 seconds, so it’s going to be a bit lumpy and weak. The wind is cross-offshore, so it’s clean but not glassy. The energy is moderate (555). The afternoon looks like a flop, dropping to 2ft.
From Thursday the 9th right through to Sunday the 13th, we’re riding a long stretch of small, clean, but weak surf. Swells are consistently between 2ft and 2ft, coming from the S or SW with periods from 11 to 18 seconds. The wind stays offshore or cross-offshore, so the surface is clean. The energy is weak, mostly in the 100-300 range. It’s surfable, but you’re not going to get any power. The water temp is a warm 79°, which is about average for this time of year.
Monday the 14th is where things get a little more interesting. The swell direction shifts to the west, with a 2ft to 2ft wave at 16-17 seconds. The energy jumps to moderate (511) and the wind is offshore. The afternoon session on Monday the 14th gets a “good conditions” call, so that’s a solid window for a clean, lined-up wave if you’re on the right board.
The real standout, the one you’ve been waiting for, is Monday the 20th. The morning session is called out for “very good surf conditions.” We’ve got a 5ft easterly swell, but it’s short period at 7 seconds, so it’s a wind swell. The energy is strong (581) and the wind is a moderate offshore. This is the best on offer. It’s not going to be a classic groundswell, but it will be punchy and clean. The afternoon drops back to 3ft.
After that, Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd settle back down to smaller, cleaner conditions, with the swell dropping to 3ft then 2ft from the south.
So, the best bet is the morning of Monday the 20th. That’s your highlight. Otherwise, be patient, or get a longboard out for the clean, small stuff between now and then.
Rusty.
