Table - best surf conditions forecast for Polihale over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s take a look at what’s cooking.
First spot is Polihale, a sandbar break that comes in fairly consistent, but it takes a while to get going in this stretch. Water temps are right around average for this time of year, nothing weird going on.
The surf gets started Monday, July 13, with a 2 ft to 2 ft swell from the west, but the period is super long – 19 seconds dropping to 18 seconds. That’s a deep water groundswell – long waits between sets but real quality. The combined swell energy is solid, in the moderate range, hitting around 342 (Monday morning) and 308 (afternoon). Wind is a light cross-off at 6 mph from the east to east-northeast, keeping it clean. It’s small but clean and lined up – good for a longboard or a fish.
Tuesday, July 14, stays similar. Swell bumps to 3 ft, period drops to 16 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 490. Wind goes even lighter at 3 mph, still cross-off from the east-northeast. Glassy moments will pop up. Still small, still clean.
Wednesday, July 15, holds that 3 ft swell from the west, period at 15 seconds, energy around 422 to 457. The morning is clear with a light east wind, cross-off. The afternoon brings a bit of rain but the wind goes offshore from the east-southeast at just 3 mph – that is a standout for clean conditions. This is the best session of this early window: small but perfectly lined-up, offshore, and with enough period to shape up nicely at this exposed sandbar.
Thursday, July 16, the swell drops a touch to 3 ft-3 ft, period down to 14 seconds, energy still moderate at 338-324. Wind stays light from the east-southeast, offshore in the morning, cross-off in the afternoon. Still good, but not the peak.
Friday, July 17, the swell fades to 2 ft-2 ft, period still 14 seconds, but energy drops to 192. The waves are surfable but ordinary – it’s small and a bit weaker.
Then we hit a real quiet spell. From Saturday, July 18, right through until Friday, July 24, the surf goes very poor. Swell is tiny, often less than 2 ft, and for several days there’s no measurable swell at all. Combined energy plummets into the 0-42 range. Winds are light, a few glassy moments, but there’s just no wave energy. That’s about a full week with nothing worth paddling out for.
Now, the real standout arrives on Saturday, July 25, in the afternoon. A new pulse of swell from the northeast at 6 ft, period 8 seconds, and combined energy of 335 – moderate but solid for this break. Wind is glassy – dead calm from the east at just 3 mph. This is clean, punchy, and big enough to get some good turns. This is your best bet of the entire 16 days, but it’s over a week away, so keep an eye on it.
Sunday, July 26, holds 4 ft from the northeast, still glassy in the morning, but the period is short at 8 seconds and energy drops to 191. Surfable but nothing special.
Monday, July 27, the swell builds to 5 ft from the northeast, period still 8 seconds, energy up to 297-311. The morning is clean with a light cross-off from the east-northeast at 6 mph. The afternoon gets a bit messy with a crosswind. This is a decent option for those who like a bit more push, but the short period means it won’t be as lined-up as the longer period stuff earlier.
Tuesday, July 28, is similar at 5 ft, but wind goes cross and conditions turn marginal. Probably best to call it a wrap by then.
So, the real highlight is Saturday afternoon, July 25 – glassy, solid 6 ft northeast swell, and clean. If you can wait, that’s the one. The early part of the week (July 13-15) offers cleaner but smaller waves for the patient surfer.
Keep it salty.
