Table - best surf conditions forecast for Polihale over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what’s on offer for Polihale over the next couple of weeks.
We're looking at a bit of a slow start, but there's some clean, rideable surf coming our way, especially for those who love a mellow, longboard-style wave. The water temp is sitting at a normal 79°, so no surprises there for this time of year.
Thursday 9th and Friday 10th July are pretty much a write-off. We've got tiny 0.6ft to 1ft swells with weak energy readings (33 to 94). It's surfable in the sense that you could float around, but the wave quality is poor, and the wind is cross-off, so it's not doing us any favours. We're basically waiting for the real juice to show up.
The first real sign of life hits on Saturday 11th July. The morning is still small, but watch the afternoon. The swell picks up to 2ft from the SW with a very long period of 18 seconds. The energy jumps to 206 (moderate) and the wind stays clean and cross-off. It’s the first time we get an “expect good surf conditions” call. This is a pretty standout session for the opener.
Then we get a shift. Sunday 12th July morning brings in a bigger, shorter-period swell from the NE. Swell height jumps to 5ft with a period of 8 seconds and strong energy of 344. The wind is super light and cross-off. That's a lot of water moving, but the short period means it might be a bit of a slog at a sandbar break like Polihale. Still, it's clean and solid.
Monday 13th July morning is the absolute best on offer this week. We've got 4ft of NE swell, a clean 8-second period, and strong energy at 378. The wind is light easterly, cross-off, and it's clear skies. The wave comment is "expect good surf conditions". This is your window if you want some size without it getting too heavy. The afternoon drops back to a long-period 2ft W swell, which is a completely different, slower vibe.
The following days from Tuesday 14th July through to Friday 17th July settle into a consistent, clean pattern. We’re looking at waist-to-chest high waves, mostly from the west, with periods around 14-16 seconds. The energy is moderate across the board (243-456). The wind is consistently light and cross-off, and on the Wednesday 15th July afternoon, we even get a glassy patch. This is perfect, fun, clean surf for a longboard or a mid-length. No standouts here, just solid, enjoyable conditions.
From Saturday 18th July onwards, the size drops off significantly. We have a few days of tiny 1ft to 2ft waves and then a complete flat spell from the afternoon of the 19th all the way through the 20th and most of the 22nd. There's literally nothing to ride.
We do get a little pulse back on Wednesday 22nd July morning with some 3ft waves from the NE, but the period is a short 7 seconds and the energy is weak (63). The wind is cross-off, so it’s clean, but it’s very ordinary.
The final possibility in the window comes on Thursday 23rd July and Friday 24th July morning. We see a small NE swell build to 3ft to 4ft, with a pitiful 6-second period. The energy only gets up to 135 (weak) on the Friday morning. The wind is glassy or very light. It’s surfable, but with that period, it’s going to be a mushy, close-out mess. Not one to get excited about.
The standout for the whole run is absolutely Monday 13th July morning. That’s your best bet for a proper session with some push, clean conditions, and decent shape.
Rusty, signing off.
