Table - best surf conditions forecast for Polihale over the next 16 days.
Hey folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at the Polihale forecast, all in feet and Fahrenheit to keep it simple.
Right off the bat, the water is a warm 79°, which is dead average for July, so no cold-water surprises there. The first real chance to get wet is Saturday the 11th. We’re talking about a tiny 1ft to 2ft swell, but it’s a beauty of a groundswell. Saturday afternoon brings a 7ft, 18-second period wave from the southwest. That’s a long-period pulse, and it carries a moderate energy of 206. The wind is light and cross-offshore, keeping the surface clean. It’s small, but it’s clean and has some push.
Sunday the 12th is more of the same, with the swell creeping up to 2ft in the afternoon. The period is still a solid 16 seconds, and the combined energy hits 249. Winds remain light and favorable. A nice little session for a longboard or a bigger fish.
Monday the 13th gets a little messy with crosswinds, so the quality drops. Tuesday the 14th, things clean back up. We get 3ft of west swell with a 16-second period, and the total wave energy jumps to 494. That’s a strong push for the area. Light cross-offshore winds keep it fun.
Alright, highlight time. Wednesday the 15th is the day. The afternoon goes glassy, absolutely flat-calm. The swell is a consistent 3ft from the west with a 15-second period, and the combined energy reads 517. This is the top of the forecast. For Polihale, that’s a real treat. Long-period west swell with glassy conditions. It’s not too big for a confident intermediate, but that long-period energy will demand a bit of respect. The spot is “fairly consistent,” so you’ll get waves, though crowds are possible.
Thursday the 16th hangs in there with similar 3ft to 3ft waves, but the winds go cross in the afternoon, taking the shine off.
Then the wheels fall off. By Friday the 17th, the surf is dropping. From Monday the 20th through Wednesday the 22nd, Polihale goes completely flat. No swell energy at all. A real quiet spell on the beach.
The only other bit of life comes at the very end of the run, on Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th. A short-period northeast wind swell shows up at 4ft, but with only a 7-second period and very weak energy (around 135). The wind is light or glassy on the 24th, which would be the better of the two days, but the waves will be weak and fat. Surfable, but barely. After that, it’s flat again. So, don’t sleep on that Wednesday the 15th.
Catch you in the water,
Rusty
