Table - best surf conditions forecast for Polihale over the next 16 days.
Hey folks, Rusty here. Alright, let’s look at what we’ve got for Polihale. The next 16 days are a bit of a slow burn, but there are a few windows that’ll get a surfer’s heart rate up.
Right now, we’re in a lull. The first few days are flat or just tiny—think knee-to-waist-high dribble at best, with poor surf conditions and a combined swell energy reading of just 65. That’s basically nothing. You’re looking at a gap of about 24 hours before anything worthwhile shows up.
The real action starts to build on Saturday July 12th. We see a jump in size, with chest-to-head-high swell coming in at 6 ft from the NE, period dropping to 8 seconds, so it’s a short-period, windswell-type push. The combined energy jumps to 382 (moderate). Winds are light cross-off from the E, keeping things reasonably clean. This is going to be a bit dumpy and peaky on the sandbar, but for a beach break, it’ll offer some fun, punchy walls. Sunday morning the 13th keeps that energy (396) with a slightly smaller 5 ft NE swell, still very rideable.
The standout window, what I’d call the best of the bunch, hits on Wednesday July 15th. The morning session is looking sweet. We’ve got a 3 ft swell from the W with a long period of 15 seconds—that’s proper groundswell energy. The combined energy is a solid 527 (moderate to strong). That long period means the waves will have real shape, even at this size, and longer lulls between sets. The wind is a gentle E breeze, just 15 km/h, keeping it clean. This is a classic Polihale day: a long-period west swell wrapping in, clean conditions, and plenty of push. Expect some nice, lined-up runners down the sandbar.
Later that week, Thursday July 16th and Friday July 17th keep the west swell alive at 3 ft and 2 ft respectively, with periods around 14 seconds. Energy stays in the moderate range (268-286). Winds hold light to gentle, offshore angles, so you’ll get clean, fun waves all day. Smaller but consistent.
Now, after that, we hit another dry spell. From Saturday July 18th onwards, it drops right off. A few tiny scraps of NE windswell pop up here and there, but the energy is weak (43-77) and the conditions are ordinary. There’s a glassy morning on Sunday July 20th but zero swell. You’ll be staring at flat water. This gap of poor to flat conditions stretches through until about Friday July 25th, when we see a glimmer of life again—a 2 ft, 12-second west swell on Saturday the 25th, combined energy 109, with glassy to light offshore winds. It’s small, but it’s clean, and for a long-range forecast, that’s something to keep an eye on.
As for the water, right now it’s 79°F, which is about average for this time of year. No surprises there.
So, to sum it up: the first few days are a write-off. The best bet is Wednesday July 15th morning for the best quality waves. Thursday and Friday are solid follow-up days. After that, it’s a long wait until the very end of the run.
Stay tuned—forecasts can shift, but for now, that’s the story at Polihale.
Rusty.
