Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Polihale has in store for us.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – the next week or so is looking pretty flat. We’ve got a long, dry spell coming up. From this Saturday morning all the way through to the following Friday, there’s just nothing doing. Tiny, weak swell and poor conditions are the story. You’re looking at a solid six or seven days where the board’s better off in the car.
The first real flicker of life shows up on Saturday the 11th in the afternoon. We get a jump in combined swell energy (239) and a pulse of swell from the SW with a solid 18-second period. That's a proper groundswell, and the waves should have some shape to them. But it’s a short-lived tease.
Now, the standout window, and the one you want to circle on your calendar, is Tuesday the 14th. Morning and afternoon both have clean conditions with light cross-off winds and a really solid 3ft swell from the west, with a 16-second period. The combined energy is strong, over 500, and the whole setup looks clean. For an advanced spot like Polihale, that’s about as good as it gets around here. That NW optimum direction matches up well with the actual W swell direction.
Following Tuesday, the Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th mornings look fantastic too, with glassy conditions and a clean 2ft to 3ft west swell. The energy is still solid, and the wind is dead calm in the mornings. Perfect for a dawn session.
The surf stays rideable through the rest of the forecast period, but nothing else really hits that high note of the 14th. Keep in mind, water temp is sitting around 78°F, which is bang on average for this time of year.
So, to sum it up: Don't bother until the second week. Your best bet is Tuesday the 14th at Polihale, with Thursday and Friday mornings being excellent second choices. The crowds are only there sometimes, so you might even get some waves to yourself.
Rusty.
