Table - best surf conditions forecast for Polihale over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for the Polihale area across the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, there’s a bit of a flat spell to start. Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th are looking pretty ordinary, with tiny, weak swell and not much to get excited about. It’s only really from Saturday afternoon that things start to show a little life, with the combined energy picking up (206 units). That’s still nothing to write home about, though.
The real action kicks in from Sunday the 12th. Swell builds to 6 ft from the NE with a short, punchy 8-second period, and the combined energy jumps into the mid-to-high 300s (373 units for the morning, 434 units for the afternoon). It’s not huge, but for a spot like Polihale, that’s some proper size. The wind stays cross-offshore (ENE at 10 mph), so conditions will be fairly clean, though the short period means it could be a bit crumbly. By Monday the 13th, the NE swell drops to 4 ft but holds a 7-second period, still in that fun, surfable zone (combined energy 367 units). Light breeze from the ENE keeps it tidy.
Then, from Tuesday the 14th onward, the vibe shifts. Swell drops back to the 3 ft – 3 ft range, but the period stretches out to a long 15-16 seconds from the W. That’s proper groundswell for Polihale, and the combined energy spikes into the 500+ range (Tuesday afternoon sees 538 units, Wednesday morning 527 units). That’s moderate-to-strong energy for this sandbar setup. Tuesday morning is the standout here: glassy conditions with ENE 3 mph and a 3 ft, 16-second W swell. That’s going to be beautiful, clean, and lined up. Wednesday the 15th is also a gem – clear skies, light winds from the E at 3-6 mph, and the same quality 3 ft, 15-second W swell. Expect very good surf conditions (score 3). Water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual.
Thursday the 16th remains fun with 3 ft W swell and 14-second period, though the afternoon gets a bit cross-shore. Friday the 17th holds onto that same quality with clean, cross-off winds.
After that, it’s a slow fade. Saturday the 18th sees the swell drop to 2 ft, and by Sunday the 19th, we’re back to flat, poor conditions. That run of low energy (26-73 units) lasts all the way through to the end of the forecast on July 25th, with only a tiny pulse of 3 ft from the NE on Friday the 24th giving a brief, ordinary surf.
So, the pick of the fortnight is Tuesday morning, July 14th. That glassy session with the long 16-second W groundswell and light ENE breeze is the one to pencil in for clean, quality waves. Wednesday the 15th is a close second. After that, it’s back to waiting for the next pulse.
Rusty out.
