Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Polihale over the next couple weeks in feet and miles.
First off, water temp is about average for this time of year – nothing crazy. The sandbar can get a few people around, so don’t expect solitude if the waves are decent.
Right now there’s not much going on. The first few days – Tuesday 7th through Thursday 9th – are flat or tiny, with poor conditions. You’d be better off waxing your board at home. Then things start to wake up on Friday 10th morning: a pulse of 4ft NE swell rolls in, period short at 7 seconds, combined energy around 236 – moderate. The wind is light cross-off, so it’ll be clean but the waves won’t have much shape. Worth a look if you’re desperate, but not a standout.
Saturday 11th afternoon brings a sneaky little SW long‑period swell – 2ft at 18 seconds, combined energy 206. That’s a long groundswell, but at this size it’s more of a slow roller. Might be fun on a log.
Now, the real standout is Sunday 12th. Morning sees 6ft NE swell with 8-second period and combined energy 435. That’s moderate‑to‑strong energy, and the wind stays light cross-off. The swell direction is NE, not the ideal NW, but the size and consistency should produce decent waves. Afternoon drops to 5ft but still good. This is the pick of the whole forecast – get on it early.
After that, the swell shifts to a more promising direction. Monday 13th goes quiet again, but Tuesday 14th afternoon lights up with a clean 2ft W groundswell at 17 seconds, combined energy 463. That’s solid energy, and the wind is glassy – almost no breeze. The W direction is close to the optimum NW, so the sets should wrap nicely. Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th keep the same W swell running, 2–3ft, long periods (15–17s), with light cross-off winds and combined energy staying in the 200–300 range. Clean conditions and good shape potential. This stretch Tuesday through Thursday is the second highlight – especially if you want longer, more drawn‑out rides.
From Friday 17th onward, the swell fades and winds get a bit messier. Saturday 18th has a tiny 2ft W swell, not worth the paddle. Sunday 19th and Monday 20th are mostly flat or poor. Tuesday 21st afternoon shows a small SW 2ft at 17s, but only 142 energy – ordinary at best. Wednesday 22nd is flat. So after the 16th, the window closes.
Overall, the best bets are Sunday 12th for size and energy, and Tuesday 14th through Thursday 16th for clean, long‑period groundswell. Don’t sleep on the weekend – go surf.
Rusty out.
