The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here with the skinny on Polihale.
Water temp is 80°, right where it should be for the season.
We’ve got a good little window opening up. Starting Wednesday, July 15th, we see a clean 3ft groundswell from the W with a long 15-second period, pumping moderate energy (408). The wind is dead glass in the morning, turning light offshore in the afternoon. That’s the recipe for some real nice, clean waves on the sandbar. This is the pick of the forecast. Swell direction is perfect, and the spot is fairly consistent.
Thursday, July 16th, keeps it going. Same 3ft to 3ft W swell, still a long 14-second period, with glassy conditions all day. Energy stays moderate (422 and 361). This is clean, quality surf for the experienced crew.
Friday, July 17th, the swell drops a touch to 2ft, but the wind is light cross-offshore. Still clean, still long period. You’ll get waves.
Then we hit a long dry patch. From Saturday, July 18th, through to Saturday, July 26th, the surf is mostly flat or junk. A few tiny pulses of weak, short-period windswell, but the energy is below 100 and conditions are poor. Not worth suiting up.
Sunday, July 26th, shows a tiny 2ft SW swell with a 10-second period, but the energy is weak (60-71). Still glassy, so you could snag a knee-high wave if you’re really keen.
After that, it’s back to flat and poor conditions. The 30th of July has a tiny 1ft W swell with a very long 13-second period, but the energy is just 29 – barely a ripple.
The best call is this Wednesday to Friday window. It’s not big, it’s not for beginners, but it’s clean, lined up, and has that long-period goodness. Make the most of it.
Rusty.
