Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's look at what's coming down the pipe for the next couple of weeks.
Well, it’s a bit of a slow start, but there’s a pulse of energy building. The first real chance for a wave is Monday the 6th of July, but it’s pretty small. The main event is toward the end of the first week, so don’t get too excited just yet.
Kaifu Rivermouth is our only break on the list, and it’s a river mouth setup that’s inconsistent, so when it fires, it’s a treat. The water is 76°, which is a bit colder than we’d normally expect for this time of year. The early part of the week is small. Monday afternoon the 6th brings glassy conditions with a tiny 3ft SE swell, but the energy is weak (316). It’s surfable, but not worth rushing for.
Tuesday morning the 7th looks better. The swell bumps up to 4ft from the ESE, and with a period of 12 seconds and glassy conditions, it’ll be clean. The combined energy jumps to 854, which is a solid moderate level. This is a good little window for a session. Tuesday afternoon gets messy with rain and onshore wind, so stick to the morning.
The real build-up starts Wednesday the 8th. The swell hits 7ft SE on Wednesday morning, and by the afternoon it’s 8ft. The period is a long 15-16 seconds, which is proper groundswell. This is where it gets interesting. The energy is strong (3000 and 3591). However, the wind is light and onshore, so the surface won’t be perfect. This is big, powerful, and only for experienced surfers.
Thursday the 9th stays solid, with 8ft to 10ft SSE swell. The energy is still very strong (3596 and 3678). Again, onshore wind is the letdown. It’s powerful, but a bit bumpy.
Friday the 10th is the standout. The swell jumps to 11ft on Friday morning and hits 13ft by Friday afternoon, all from the S. The period is a very long 16 seconds, and the energy is absolutely pumping (7228 and 11634). This is a big, powerful groundswell. The wind is still light and onshore, but the sheer size and energy will make for some serious waves. This is big-wave territory, experts only.
Saturday the 11th is still pumping, with 13ft S swell in the morning, easing to 11ft SSW by the afternoon. The afternoon session looks magic – the wind goes glassy, and the energy is still massive (6278). This is the best window of the whole outlook: big, clean, and powerful. A special session for the experienced crew. The morning is still solid but with light onshore wind.
From Sunday the 12th, the swell starts to drop quickly. It’s 7ft on Sunday morning, then fading fast. The energy drops to 1888. The onshore wind returns. Monday the 13th has a small, clean window in the morning with 4ft S swell and glassy conditions, but it's weak (462). After that, the surf gets small and messy through the middle of the week, with poor conditions and cross-onshore winds.
There’s a gap of poor to flat surf from the 14th to the 18th of July. The 17th and 18th are basically flat, with tiny 1ft to 2ft waves and almost no energy (49 to 137). It’s a real lull.
Then, out of nowhere, there’s a late pulse on Sunday the 19th of July. A 8ft ESE swell arrives in the afternoon, with moderate energy (1462). The wind is light and cross-onshore, so it will be a bit textured. This is a promising but less certain long-range option. Monday the 20th looks even better: a 7ft ESE swell with glassy conditions and a very good energy level (1223). The wind is light and clean. This could be a great surprise session for those who wait.
After that, Tuesday the 21st holds at 7ft to 8ft ESE, but the wind is onshore again, so it loses its appeal.
For the best, your two true standouts are Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th – massive, powerful groundswell, but only for the experienced. If you want a smaller, cleaner window, Tuesday morning the 7th and Monday morning the 13th are your best bets for a more relaxed paddle.
Stay safe out there.
Rusty.
