Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Rivermouth over the next 16 days.
Alright mates, Rusty here again, now in feet and miles. The Rivermouth – a sandbar wave that almost never breaks, and when it does the local crew is all over it. Advanced only. Water temp right now is a balmy 62°F, a full 5°F above normal – that’s way warmer than usual for this time of year.
Looking at the whole 16-day window, it’s mostly quiet. The first week has small, waist-high SSW swells around 2–3 ft with light cross or cross-onshore breezes. Not enough to get the sandbar working properly. Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th see a switch to shorter-period WNW swell, up to about 6 ft, but the wind stays cross-on and the waves are messy. Energy values in the 600–800 range – moderate, but not clean.
Then we get a couple of glassy windows in the second week. Wednesday 15th July afternoon – flat calm wind, 5 ft of WNW swell at 8 seconds. Energy 486, clean surface. That’s a session for the experienced, knowing this spot hardly ever holds a lineup.
The real gem is Thursday 16th July afternoon. Swell hits 6 ft from the WNW, 9 seconds, and the wind goes glassy again. Energy jumps to 1096 – strong for this sheltered sandbar. Sure, the direction isn’t the ideal SSW, but with clean conditions and a decent push, the river mouth could offer some fun waves. At 6 ft it’s definitely expert-level. After that, it fades back to small, onshore mush. The 16th is the one to aim for, but as always with a forecast that far out, keep your fingers crossed and watch the updates.
Rusty.
