The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let me break down what we’re working with for the next couple of weeks.
This forecast for Consessions/Big Rights is a tricky one. It’s an advanced reef break, looking for swell from the SSE, but the wind is mostly coming across from the ENE—not terrible, but not ideal. Water temperature is nice and warm at 81°F, right about average for the season.
The first week is mostly a wash. Sunday afternoon kicks off with a clean 5ft wave from the ENE at 8 seconds, but it’s only marginal. Monday and Tuesday are small and weak, with waves running 4 to 5ft with short periods—nothing worth fighting for.
Wednesday the 12th brings some long-period groundswell from the south, just 3ft at 18 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 903, but the swell is tiny. Thursday the 13th is similar—3 to 4ft, 15-16 seconds from the south, clean but small. This pattern of nice, clean, but tiny south swell sticks around through Friday.
Saturday the 15th is where we get some heavy water. The swell hits 10ft in the morning and builds to 12ft by afternoon with a moderate 12-13 second period from the ENE. The energy jumps to 3799—strong stuff. But with that size, it’s experts only, especially with the cross-off wind.
The one standout is Sunday the 16th (morning). This is the day. We’ve got a 15ft ENE groundswell, 13-second period, and a light offshore wind from the north at 6 mph. The combined energy is a massive 6695. That offshore wind will groom those big walls into perfection for the experts. It’s going to be heavy. The afternoon drops off sharply to just 2ft, so be there at dawn. Anything over 8ft is too big for beginners, and this is way above that.
The rest of the second week is a snooze. Monday the 17th has a 6ft ENE swell with a cross-shore wind, then it’s onshore and choppy through Tuesday and Wednesday. From the 20th onward, we’re looking at tiny south swells under 3ft with fresh cross-off winds. Thursday the 24th sees a bump to 7ft from the east, but the period is short (8 seconds) and the wind is cross-off, so it’s not doing much. After that, it’s a long stretch of small, wind-affected surf.
So save your energy. The only gold here is Sunday morning the 16th.
