Table - best surf conditions forecast for Consessions/Big Rights over the next 16 days.
Right, let’s have a look at what’s on offer. Consessions/Big Rights is our only spot this run, and it’s a top-shelf reef break reserved for advanced crew only.
Right now, and for the next couple of weeks, the story is mostly about persistent, fresh cross-offshore winds from the ENE. The water temperature is sitting at a warm 79°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year – no surprises there.
The problem is, for a spot that loves a solid SSE groundswell, we’re mostly staring at short-period, wind-affected ENE swell. That’s not what this reef is built for. The wave energy is moderate at best, reading between 260 and 834 (combined energy), but the quality just isn’t there for a proper paddle session. For the first week, you’ll see a few sessions on Sunday 12 July and Monday 13 July with waist-to-chest high 6ft to 6ft ENE swell, but those 8-second periods are too short to give the wave any shape here – it’ll be bumpy and frustrating. The winds are cross-off, which is clean, but the swell direction is all wrong.
We get a little taste of something different on Tuesday 14 July morning – a 2ft SW groundswell at 14 seconds – but that’s tiny and the moderate ENE cross-off will just mess with it. That pattern repeats through the week: little pulses of longer-period SSW groundswell, but they’re knee-high at best and always fighting the dominant trade winds.
The real standout, if we’re being patient, shows up on Monday 27 July. That’s the one to circle on the calendar. We’ve got a 4ft to 4ft east swell, but the period finally stretches out to a very long 15 seconds – proper groundswell energy. The combined energy hits a strong 1168 (Monday morning), which is the most power we’ll see all forecast. The wind is a lighter ENE at 12 to 15 mph, still cross-off, so it’ll be clean. For a reef break like this, that long period will wrap in nicely and offer set waves that are well-shaped. It’s a promising signal, though still a week and a half out, so keep an eye on it.
Before that, it’s a long, dry run with mostly marginal to poor conditions. If you’re a kite surfer, the constant ENE cross-off trades and chest-high chop on the 18th and 19th might look fun, but for a paddle surfer at Consessions/Big Rights, this is mostly a waiting game.
