The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what's on the menu. We're fixin' to check out one spot, and one spot only for the next couple of weeks: Consessions/Big Rights. It's an advanced reef break, and it's a real powerhouse when it lines up.
The water’s sitting at 81°, which is pretty much spot on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The forecast starts off with a bit of a dud, honestly. Sunday the 6th has some size, but that 19 mph cross-offshore wind is all wrong, and there’s a risk of thunderstorms. It’s a messy start. Monday the 7th gets a bit bigger, waves around 8 ft from the ENE, but the wind swings cross and kicks up a nasty cross-chop. It’s big, but it's not pretty.
Things look grim for Tuesday the 8th. We get a strong onshore blow at 22 mph with rain showers. That’s a write-off. The swell drops off fast from there. Wednesday the 9th sees the swell fade to 3 ft, a long 14-second period, but with a cross-shore wind it’s just not happening.
We hit a real flat spell from Thursday the 11th right through to about Monday the 14th. The wave heights are tiny, under 3 ft, and the energy is weak (as low as 62 in that combined reading). There’s simply nothing to get excited about.
Now, hold on a sec. Things start to look a bit brighter around Monday the 14th. The swell direction swings to the SSW, the period gets long, and the wind turns light and offshore. It’s still small, about 2 ft, but that clean, glassy feel is a welcome change.
The standout window, and the one to really keep an eye on, is around Saturday the 19th of September. We’ve got a clean 3 ft SSW groundswell hitting, but the real magic is that morning wind: dead glass. That’s a huge positive for a reef like this. The energy’s moderate (359), and it’s from the optimum SSE direction for this spot. It’s not going to be massive, but for a clean, lined-up reef wave, that’s the pick of the bunch. Just know the crowds can get on it sometimes.
So to sum it up: the first week is a write-off with storms and messy onshores. There's a big flat gap from the 11th to about the 13th. The real bright spot, and your best bet, is that glassy Saturday morning on the 19th of September. After that, it fades back into small, cross-onshore slop.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
