The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s run through it in feet and knots for you.
First up, it’s Consessions/Big Rights, a reef break that’s strictly for the experienced crew. The whole 16-day stretch has its ups and downs, but there’s a couple of windows worth paddling out for.
From Monday the 17th through Saturday the 22nd, it’s pretty flat. Swell is tiny, around 1 ft to 3 ft from the S or SW, with weak energy (230 to 657). Winds are cross-off or cross, but it’s all marginal and not worth the effort.
Then Sunday the 23rd and Monday the 24th get ugly. Swell jumps to 5 ft to 6 ft of short-period ENE windswell (7 seconds). Energy is moderate (414 to 518), but the conditions are poor—lumpy and closed out. Scores are zeros. Stay out.
Now, from Tuesday the 25th of August, things start building. We get 8 ft ENE at 8 seconds, energy up to 835. Still cross-off breeze. It’s big, but not clean yet.
The real standout is Wednesday the 26th through Friday the 28th of August. Swell size holds at 8 ft to 10 ft, still from the ENE, but the period stretches. By Thursday the 27th, it’s 10 ft at 8 seconds, energy at 1494 to 1707. Then Friday the 28th, the period hits 11 seconds, and energy blasts to 2697. That’s proper groundswell energy. Winds are cross-off, so it’ll be clean. This is a reef break, so those longer-period waves will have great shape. But at 10 ft, this is expert-only territory. It’s heavy.
After that, it drops fast. Saturday the 29th starts with 10 ft but collapses to 3 ft by afternoon, then it’s small and poor with fresh breezes through the end of the month. Early September shows a pulse back to 8 ft from the E at 10 seconds, but that’s over a week out—just a whisper for now.
The best call of the whole forecast? Friday the 28th of August at Consessions/Big Rights. Big, clean, powerful groundswell, cross-off wind, and a reef that loves that sort of energy. Crowds are only occasional, so if you’re a solid surfer, that’s your day. But leave the soft-top at home.
Rusty out.
