The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. What we’re looking at for Lahaina Breakwall/Harbour is a consistent run of small, clean surf. Wave heights are sitting at 1 to 2 feet for the whole stretch. Water temp is a normal 80°, so nothing weird going on there.
The first time you might want to wet a line is Friday afternoon, August 21st. There’s a SW swell running at 2 feet with a very long 16 second period. Energy is weak at 137, but with a light 6 mph E cross-off breeze, it’ll be clean enough for a fun little session.
Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd keep the same small SW swell at 2 feet. Saturday morning is a bit rough but cleans up with a 9 mph NE offshore in the afternoon. Sunday has a gentle 9 mph NE offshore all day, with energy dropping from 123 to 106. Clean, but tiny.
Monday the 24th through Wednesday the 26th is just more of the same: 2-footers with offshore winds from the NE at 9-12 mph. Energy stays between 110 and 160. It’s surfable, but nothing to write home about.
Thursday the 27th is the one to circle. The swell bumps up to 2 feet from the S with a long 17 second period. The morning is glassy with a light 6 mph NE offshore. Energy hits 191, the highest of the whole run. If you’ve got a longboard, that’s your best shot.
From Friday the 28th right through to the end, it’s all the same story. Clean offshore winds, but the swell barely moves from 1 to 2 feet. Energy drops off hard, staying mostly in the double digits. Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th are clean but lifeless. The energy on the 30th morning is only 105, dropping to 78 in the afternoon.
There’s a little pop on September 1st with a 2-foot SSW swell at 18 seconds and energy of 171, but it’s still small. The real standout is that Thursday the 27th – cleanest conditions and the most energy, just on a tiny wave. Crowds are possible here as it’s a known spot, but it won’t be hectic.
No big waves, just clean little ones for a quiet paddle.
Rusty.
