Table - best surf conditions forecast for Lahaina Breakwall/Harbour over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
The outlook for the next couple of weeks is a bit of a slow burn. We’ve got a run of clean, small waves that’ll keep the loggers and longboarders happy, but nothing that’s gonna get the pulse racing for a while. The energy is weak to moderate for most of the period, with the combined energy readings sitting in the low to mid hundreds (160 to 305), so don’t expect any real grunt. The real bright spot is a late surge in the second week that looks promising.
Starting this Sunday the 12th, we’ve got a tiny 2 ft swell from the SW with a very long period of 16 seconds. That’s groundswell, but it’s small. The wind is offshore from the ENE at 9 mph, so it’s clean and glassy, but honestly, the waves are just surfable, not exciting. That holds through Monday the 13th with the same kind of vibe: 2 ft SW swell, 15-second period, and gentle offshore breezes. It’s clean, but you’re gonna be working for those little nuggets.
Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th see a slight bump in energy, with the combined energy getting up into the 250-305 range. The swell stays small at 2-2 ft, shifting from the W and WNW, with cross-offshore winds. Wednesday afternoon actually gets a “good” tag, but the size is still tiny. It’s a good day for a beginner or someone wanting to avoid the crowd, but it’s not a standout.
The first week tails off into a real lull. From around the 18th of July, the swell drops to 1.0 ft and the combined energy plummets into the 40-90 range. By Sunday the 19th, it’s poor. This flat spell runs right through the 20th and 21st. Just a blank stretch where you’re better off doing something else.
Now, here’s the light at the end of the tunnel. For the 22nd and 23rd of July, we start to see a pulse. The swell picks up to 2 ft from the SW, but the period jumps to a very long 20-24 seconds. That’s proper groundswell energy, and the combined energy climbs back above 250. The wind is clean offshore from the NE at 9-12 mph. This is where it gets interesting.
The standout period is the weekend of the 26th and 27th of July. This is the best on offer. On Saturday the 25th afternoon, the combined energy spikes to 303, and the swell is 2 ft from the SSW with a 16-second period. Sunday the 26th morning is the peak: 2 ft SSW swell, 17-second period, energy at 272, and gentle offshore NE wind at 9 mph. It’s gonna be clean, lined up, and that long period will wrap nicely into Lahaina Breakwall/Harbour. The crowd is a factor here though – it’s listed as “sometimes” busy, so expect company if the conditions are this good. The optimum swell direction for this spot is WSW, and the SSW is close enough to work well.
Overall, the first week is a flat, slow grind. The second week, from the 22nd onwards, shows a real pulse of long-period groundswell, with the 26th and 27th being the true standouts. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
Rusty out.
