Table - best surf conditions forecast for Lahaina Breakwall/Harbour over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks, it's Rusty here. Let's get into it. Honestly, for the next couple of weeks, we're looking at a pretty flat and quiet period for the West Side. The swell is tiny and the energy is weak, so don't expect any fireworks. The main spot to keep an eye on is the old faithful, Lahaina Breakwall/Harbour.
Looking at the water temp, it's sitting right about average for this time of year, so no major surprises there.
Kicking off Thursday the 9th of July, it's a total write-off. We're talking a tiny 1ft of lumpy, short-period SSW swell with a cross-off breeze. The combined energy is a measly 58, and the report says "poor surf conditions." Honestly, just don't bother. The same goes for Friday the 10th; the swell drops to 1.0ft in the morning. The wind is offshore, but the waves are just too small and weak to do anything with.
Saturday the 11th is where things get a tiny bit more interesting. The swell picks up a touch to 1ft, but more importantly, it's a long-period SW groundswell at 18 seconds. The combined energy creeps up to a moderate 132. The wind is clean and offshore from the NE all day. It's still tiny, but the period gives it a bit more push than the numbers suggest. You might get a sneaky long wait between sets, but the shape on the reef could be okay. This is the best of a very average bunch.
Sunday the 12th through to Tuesday the 14th are much of the same. The swell stays around 2ft to 2ft with that long-period SW groundswell hanging around, and the energy gets into the low 200s. The wind is clean and offshore or gentle. It's "surfable" but very ordinary. You'd be on a log and really working for it.
The standout, if you can call it that, is Wednesday the 15th of July. The morning looks promising with a 2ft WNW groundswell (15 second period) and a light ENE cross-off breeze. The combined energy hits 283, which is the highest we'll see. The wave comment says "expect good surf conditions." It's the only day in the whole run that gets a positive nod. The reef at Lahaina Breakwall should handle the long period cleanly, and with the crowds being only "sometimes" around, you might get a few fun ones to yourself. The afternoon gets a bit more wind, so get on it early.
From Thursday the 16th onwards, it's a slow fade. The swell drops back under 2ft and the energy fades. By the 19th, we're back to "poor surf conditions" with combined energy under 70. The long-range stuff from the 20th to the 24th of July is a tease; a bit of S swell tries to show up, but the period is all over the place and the energy is too low to get excited about. It's a long, flat slog.
So, the bottom line is: it's a quiet 16 days. There's a window on the morning of Wednesday the 15th of July that might be worth a paddle for the die-hards. Otherwise, keep the wax dry and the board in the shed.
Rusty.
